8th Grade Math: Today was an abbreviated class period as we welcomed our homerooms back to school, gave the students their schedules and sent them to their first period classes. Once the math students were settled into the classroom, I welcomed them to math, introduced myself to them and handed out the syllabus for the class and talked to the students about my expectations of them throughout the school year, and what they can expect from me as their teacher.
Assignments: The only assignment today was for each student to bring home their syllabus and have their parent or guardian sign and date the return portion of the syllabus. The students were informed that they are to return this by this coming Friday, 8/27.
7th Grade Math: I welcomed the students to math class and immediately handed out the class syllabus and went through the expectations and guidelines to help the students navigate the course. Once we were through discussing the syllabus and expectations, I handed out the "Letter to my Math Teacher" and asked students to answer the questions thoughtfully and completely in order for their teacher to get to know each of the students' strengths and weaknesses in math as well as some aspect of their lives that they wished to share with their teacher!

Students are also to complete their "Letter to my Math Teacher" if they did not finish the work in class and turn it in tomorrow.
Science: After the quick welcome and introduction to science class, we went over the syllabus and the classroom expectations for the coming year. Again, students are asked to return the signed portion of the syllabus signed by both their parent/guardian and themselves by Friday of this week. I am also asking parents/guardians to contribute a $10 lab fee if they are so inclined, in order to help off set the costs associated with the purchasing of lab experiment materials throughout the school year. Thank you in advance on behalf of the Aurora House science classes! The last twenty minutes of class time was used by the students to complete a Personality Bingo worksheet in order to begin the process of teambuilding. This entailed all of the students to get up and move around the room introducing themselves to their classmates and answering questions in order to fill out the bingo card.
