8th Grade Math: Today in math we began class with a quick warm up activity, called the Problem of the Day. After giving students about five minutes to work out a solution, we went over the answer as a class. We then broke into our math text books and started chapter 1, section 1. Students were introduced to the concepts of numerical expressions, variables, operations, and variable expressions. After some brief classroom instruction regarding solving two step equations, students were handed a worksheet to practice their skills.

Assignments: Todays assignment was Review Homework #1. It will be due on Wednesday at the beginning of class. Students are also to finish worksheet 1.1 (odds) for class tomorrow (Tuesday) if they did not finish in class.

7th Grade Math: Today students resumed working with describing patterns and identifying common vocabulary terms that they will encounter throughout the year in math class. After some brief instruction from the teacher, students were handed a worksheet to practice their new skills.

Assignments: Review Homework #2 was handed out to the students and is due first thing on Wednesday morning. Students are also to finish worksheet 1.1 for class tomorrow.

Science: Today in science we began class with a brief discussion about what quality work looks like and I had several examples, both good and bad, for students to look at and dissect in order for them to understand our expectations for quality work. I then reviewed the Scientific Summer assignment and clarified any questions about due dates (due Wednesday) and what should be included in their final project. Students then were given the remaining time in class to work on their assignments.

Assignments: There is no homework per se, however, students are aware of the due date of the Scientific Summer project they are working on, which is Wednesday of this week, and they understand that they only have class time on Tuesday to finish up the assignment.
