8th Grade Math: Today students were given their assigned text books to take home for the school year. It was explained to the students that they are responsible for returning this text book in the same condition as they received it next May. Students were then given the pre-course assessment to give me a better understanding of where they are at individually in math.
Assignments: The only assignment today was for each student to bring home their syllabus and have their parent or guardian sign and date the return portion of the syllabus. The students were informed that they are to return this by this coming Friday, 8/27. I asked students to finish 10 more problems from the pre-course assessment that they began in class today for tomorrow.

Science: Today in science students began class with a discussion of what science is. Science is based on observations and our discussion in class centered around how we observe the world around us everyday, as well as how we record our observations for future use. Students were then introduced to the concept of C.R.A.P. CRAP is an acronym used to describe the different elements that we expect our students to incorporate into their projects, presentations, and other work throughout the school year. CRAP stands for Contrast, Repetition, Alignment and Proximity. I encourage all parents and guardians to talk with your son or daughter about these elements and help us teachers enforce the importance of C.R.A.P. throughout this school year!
