8th Grade Math: Today in
math students began class with the problem of the day. Next, students
jumped back into chapter 5 and today we reviewed dividing fractions and reciprocals, before transitioning into section six on the multiplicative inverse. Students learned the definition of the multiplicative inverse and how to apply it in solving equations. After some teacher led instruction, students were assigned the 5.6 worksheet and given 25 minutes of class time to complete the assignment.
Assignments: Review homework #10 is due Wednesday. Students should be completing the 5.6
worksheet if they did not finish in the class time provided.
7th Grade Math: Today in math students
began class by using their flashmasters. Next, we transitioned into
chapter 5. We began our discussion by reviewing GCFs, LCMs and LCDs.
Next, students were introduced multiplying fractions. Students were given the rules for multiplying fractions, (the product of the numerators over the product of the denominators) as well as being introduced to the concept of cross cancelling as a method of simplifying fractions. After some teacher led instruction and several examples, students were assigned the 5.3 worksheet and given about 20 minutes of class time to work on the assignment.
Assignments: Review homework #10 is due Wednesday. Students should be completing the 5.3
worksheet if they did not finish in the class time provided.
Science:
Today in science, students began class with the Do Now. Next, students
began learning about ancient models of the world. Students watched a quick 8 minute film called "The Box of Daylight," in which they learned the Tlingit culture's creation myth. We then had a class discussion about why a culture may come up with stories to validate how the moon, stars and the sun came into existence.
Assignments: None.
FYI: Parents! Starting on Monday (10/31,
the first day of the second quarter), teachers in the Aurora house will
no longer accept late work from our students. Students will get credit
for the work they do, when it is due.
