Tuesday December 3, 2013

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students were introduced to finding the LCM (Least Common Multiple) of two or more numbers, monomials or fractions.  We reviewed the difference between factors and multiples, before students learned the two methods of finding a LCM.  Method one is all about just listing out the multiples of a number, and method two has students finding the prime factorization of each number in question, and multiplying the factors together in order to find the LCM.  After some teacher led instruction and several examples, students were assigned the section 4.4 worksheet to be due Tuesday in class.

Assignments:  The section 4.4 worksheet is due Tuesday in class.  Review Homework #23 is due Wednesday in class.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students continued working with properties of addition and multiplication. Today students were introduced to simplifying expressions.  Students defined several key vocabulary words, and we then practiced identifying the terms, coefficients, like terms and constants within an expression.

Assignments:  The problems from the at home text book, page 804 #1-19 are due Wednesday in class.  Review homework #23 is due Wednesday in class.

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students began learning the basics of atoms.  We finished reading the section entitled "Particles of Matter" in the book, and everyone participated in a discussion about the subatomic particles within an atom (protons, electrons and neutrons).  After some teacher led instruction and some examples of models of atoms, students were asked to draw a model of an oxygen atom and write five sentences comparing the similarities and differences between an oxygen atom and a carbon atom.

Assignments:  Students should be drawing an example of an oxygen atom and writing five sentences comparing the similarities and differences of the two models for class on Wednesday.
