8th Grade Math: Today in
math students began class with the problem of the day. Next, students jumped back into chapter 3. We quickly reviewed the process of solving two step equations, and completed a few example problems to solidify understanding, before moving into section two on solving equations while using the distributive property.
Assignments:
Review Homework #20 is due Wednesday.
7th Grade Math: Today in math students
began class by using their flashmasters. Next, students jumped back
into
chapter 3. We began by reviewing the mean, median, mode and range of data sets and the process used in finding those pieces. We then reviewed the reasons for using bar and double bar graphs and line graphs. Next we transitioned into stem and leaf plots. We defined what a stem and leaf plot is as well as practicing a few example problems.
Assignments: Review Homework #20 is due Wednesday.
Science:
Today in science, students continued talking about the importance of
learning vocabulary. As we transition into the chemistry unit, it is
important to introduce the students to the new vocabulary they will
encounter, and we are working on some scientific root words, including
prefixes and suffixes, that the students will come across throughout the
unit. Today students began class with a pop quiz, reviewing the vocabulary words students have learned the past two weeks in class. We then graded the vocabulary test taken last Wednesday. Next students grabbed a text book and selected five words from the glossary that included a prefix, suffix or root word we have just learned throughout our vocabulary lessons.
Assignments: None.
FYI: Parents! Starting on Monday (10/31,
the first day of the second quarter), teachers in the Aurora house will
no longer accept late work from our students. Students will get credit
for the work they do, when it is due.
