7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day. Next, students jumped back into chapter 10.  Today students jumped back into surface areas of prisms and cylinders.  Students were introduced to the formulas to calculate the surface area of prisms in general, and reminded of the fact that finding the area of rectangles and triangles have a different process involved. After some teacher led instruction, and a few example problems, students were assigned the section 10.5 worksheet as homework, to be due Wednesday in class.

Assignments:  Study Island Review Homework #23 is due by the end of the day on Thursday.  The section 10.5 worksheet is due Wednesday in class.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students jumped back into chapter 4.  Students began class reviewing the rules for multiplying and dividing powers, before using the rest of the class period to be introduced to working with negative and zero exponents.  Students were introduced to the fact that any number or variable raised to the zero exponent always equals one.  To get rid of negative exponents, put the base and power into a fraction as the denominator.  After several examples, we ran out of time.

Assignments:  Review homework #18 will be due on Wednesday in class.

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students celebrated Earth Day by taking apart their groups roller coasters in order to recycle the paper!

Assignments:  Students should be putting some thought into the types of trusses they will use to help them build their balsa wood bridge.
