8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the problem of the day. We then began talking about surface area and how that relates to polygons. Today we talked about rectangular prisms and finding the total surface area for that shape. We talked about how a rectangular prism has six faces and in order to calculate the total surface area, they would need to find the area for each face and add them all together. We then built and talked about the formula used to calculate the total surface area of a rectangular prism. Students ended class by practicing calculating the surface area of two different rectangular prisms.

Assignments: Review Homework #16 is due on Wednesday.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters, before we transitioned back into solving surface areas for rectangular prisms. Today we began with two teacher led examples, before students were handed a worksheet (12.3) to practice their skills individually.

Assignments: Review HW #17 is due Wednesday. Complete the 12.3 worksheet if they did not finish in the time provided.

Science: Today in science students began class by doing a few practice example problems for the upcoming science SBA. This coming Wednesday all 8th graders will be taking this science assessment. We then transitioned into this weeks assignment, which will consist of each student keeping track of how long each light is using electricity in either their kitchen or bathroom over the course of the week. Students were handed a worksheet that they can use to record their hourly energy consumption for each day this week. On Friday we will then calculate the energy consumption for each light they kept track of.

Assignments: Begin keeping track of how long a light is using electricity in either their kitchen or bathroom. I also asked students to share this assignment with their families and to ask for help throughout the week keeping track of light use in their homes.
