8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the problem of the day. We then began a circle activity. Students were introduced to key vocabulary, as well as formulas to find the circumference, diameter, and radius of any circle. We did some practice problems together, before students went out to the covered basketball court outside, and measured the center circle and free throw lane circle in order to calculate the area and circumference of the circles.

Assignments: Review Homework #15 is due on Friday.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters, before we transitioned back into solving area problems of circles. Today students went out to the covered basketball court and measured the diameter and radius of the free throw lane circle and the center court circle. We then came back inside and students calculated the area and circumference of each circle as well as a basketball.

Assignments: Review HW #16 is due Friday. Complete the circle activity data sheet if they did not finish in the class time provided.

Science: Today in science students took part in a lab designed to enhance knowledge of incandescent and compact fluorescent lightbulbs. We had several stations set up around the room, and students made several observations about each lightbulb, before filling in a data table with temperature reading over a seven minute time frame. Students then plotted their data in a line graph comparing each lightbulb and their temperature readings over time. We will continue this lab activity tomorrow in class.

Assignments: Complete the graph comparing each lightbulb for class on Friday if they did not finish the activity in the class time provided. Each student was asked to go home this evening and count all of the light fixtures in their home for our lab on Thursday.
