8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day before grading the section 1.4 worksheet that the students had a homework over the weekend. Next we moved into the new material focusing on adding integers using number lines and the absolute values to solve expressions. After some teacher led instruction and examples, we ran out of time to hand out the next worksheet, thus tomorrow we will begin class with the section 1.5 worksheet.
Assignments: None. Quiz #1 will be tomorrow (Wednesday) to begin class.
7th Grade Math: Today students began class with flashmasters, students were to do two timed practices of their choice, and one timed flashcard activity that I assign them. We then graded the section 1.3 worksheet together as a class, before we moved into section 1.4 and began discussing the Order of Operations. "Please excuse my dear aunt sally" is the common saying developed to help students remember the importance of following the order of operations in expressions that include more than one operation.
Assignments: Section 1.4 worksheet is due in the morning (odds only). Quiz #1 will be tomorrow (Wednesday) to begin class.
Science: Today in science students were allowed to work directly with their partners in order to complete at least one of the three experiments they are to have completed by the end of class tomorrow. Todays experiment dealt with three different brands of gum and the stretchability. Tomorrow we will focus on the sugar content of the different brands of gum together as a class.
Assignments: I have asked students to please bring into class tomorrow a pack or two of their favorite gum to aide in our experiments within the Bubble Gum Challenge Lab.
