8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class by grading the section 1.2 worksheet as a class. Next we moved into section 1.3 in our textbook and began talking about the Order of Operations. Students were introduced to the proper order of completing an algebraic expression and Mr. Olsen stressed the importance of following these rules throughout the year when working with problems that ask students to complete more than one operation in a problem.
Assignments: Review Homework #2 is due on Friday at the beginning of class.
7th Grade Math: Today students resumed section 1.2 and began talking about variables, operations, numerical expressions and variable expressions. After some classroom instruction and teacher led examples, students tried a few problems at their seat, and once they were checked off by Mr. Olsen, the students were handed a worksheet to practice their skills.
Assignments: Review Homework #3 is due first thing on Friday morning. Students are also to finish section 1.2 worksheet if they did not finish in class.
Science: Today in science we began the Bubble Gum Challenge Lab. Today was just the introduction to the activity and an opportunity for students to begin thinking about why gum tastes so good, why it may be stretchy, and which brands of gum blow the biggest bubbles. We will begin the activity tomorrow in class and students will work with a partner to design experiments in order to test the three properties of different brands of gum.
Assignments: There is no homework per se, however, with the start of the Bubble Gum Challenge Lab in class today and the rest of the week, I have asked students to please bring into class tomorrow a pack or two of their favorite gum to aide in our experiments.
