Monday January 30, 2012

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, students jumped back into chapter four.  We reviewed the rules for dealing with exponents, before students were introduced to section 4.6 and negative and zero exponents.  We spent the hour going over examples and applying the rules to different situations.

Assignments:    Review homework #4 is due on Wednesday.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class by using their flashmasters.  Next, students jumped back into chapter four.  We reviewed GCFs and LCMs, as well as equivalent fractions before students were introduced to comparing and ordering fractions.  The least common denominator, or the LCD, was introduced to students and we spent the remaining time comparing fractions together as a class, by finding the LCD for each fraction we were comparing.

Assignments:   Review homework #4 is due on Wednesday.

Science:  Today in science, students continued working with the periodic table.  Today, students began class with a Do Now, before reviewing ionic and covalent bonds.  Next, students began learning how to name simple compounds.  Students were given the rules for how to name a compound and then given about 25 minutes of class time to complete a worksheet.

Assignments:     None.

FYI:  Parents!  Starting on Monday (10/31, the first day of the second quarter), teachers in the Aurora house will no longer accept late work from our students.  Students will get credit for the work they do, when it is due.
