8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, students jumped back into chapter four.  We reviewed greatest common factors, including the two different methods for finding the GCFs, by listing factors and by using prime factorization, before allowing students about 20 minutes of class time to complete the 4.2 worksheet.  After 20 minutes of work time, Mr. Olsen then introduced the next section on equivalent fractions.  Key vocabulary was introduced as well as how to simplify fractions into their simplest form.

Assignments:    Review homework #1 is due on Friday.  Students should also be working on completing the front side of the 4.2 worksheet for Thursday morning.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class by using their flashmasters.  Next, students jumped back into chapter four.  We reviewed greatest common factors, including the two different methods for finding the GCFs, by listing factors and by using prime factorization, before allowing students about 20 minutes of class time to complete the 4.2 worksheet.

Assignments:   Review homework #1 is due on Friday.  Students should be completing the front side of the 4.2 worksheet for Thursday morning.

Science:  Today in science, students continued working with the periodic table.  Today's activity had students learning about electron configurations.  Mr. Olsen introduced the two methods of displaying how electrons are spread amongst the orbitals of an atom.  Students learned about the Bohr Diagrams and Lewis Structures, and practiced several examples.

Assignments:     Students should be completing the back side of the Atomic Basics worksheet, where they are drawing the Bohr models and Lewis structures for each of the elements on the worksheet for Thursday.

FYI:  Parents!  Starting on Monday (10/31, the first day of the second quarter), teachers in the Aurora house will no longer accept late work from our students.  Students will get credit for the work they do, when it is due.
