7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Students then took a surprise quiz on decimals, percents and fractions.  Next, students were informed that their MAPs RIT scores were entered into the Study Island website, and that from now on, students will be expected to spend at least 30 minutes a week on the site, working on their individualized learning plans developed by the Study Island site based on each students MAP scores.  We finished class by working on some practice SBA problems.

Assignments:   Students are to be logging into their Study Island accounts as homework this evening.

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  We then reviewed the rules for multiplying and dividing powers, before we finished taking notes on negative and zero exponents.  After some teacher led instruction and several example problems, students were assigned the section 4.6 worksheet (odds Only) as homework and were given about 15 minutes of class time to get started.

Assignments:  The section 4.6 worksheet (odds only) is due Wednesday in class.

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Students picked up talking about the factors that control the inheritance of traits in organisms that we ended class yesterday.  After a group discussion reviewing dominant and recessive alleles, students worked in table groups to answer three key questions regarding the inheritance of traits in offspring.

Assignments:    Students were handed the section 3.1 worksheet on Gregor Mendel's studies of genetics.  It is due Wednesday in class.

FYI:  Parents!  Starting on Monday (10/22, the first day of the second quarter), teachers in the Aurora house will no longer accept late work from our students.  Students will get credit for the work they do, when it is due.
