Thursday March 7, 2013

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next,  we transitioned back into chapter 7.  Today students learned how to find the percent of change in a quantity.  After some teacher led instruction and several example problems, students were assigned the front side only of the 7.5 worksheet.

Assignments:   The section 7.5 worksheet (front side only)  is due on Friday in class.  Students can expect a quiz on the first four sections of chapter 7 on Friday in class.

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Today we jumped in to section 4 on finding the least common multiple of two or more number or monomials.  Students were introduced to two methods of finding the LCM, one was just listing the multiples of each number in question, while method 2 has students factoring each number down to its prime factorization, and multiplying each common factor together to find the LCM.   Students were then assigned eight problems from their at home text books, p. 190 #16-30 (even only) due Friday in class.

Assignments:  The book work from page 190 #16-30 (evens only) is due Friday in class.  Students can also expect a quiz on the first three sections of chapter 4 on Friday in class.

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  We then transitioned back into cell division.  Today students were introduced to our next project, a mitosis flip book.  Students will be detailing each stage and phase of the cell cycle in an illustrated flip book.  Students were given about 25 minutes of class time to begin working on a rough draft of their flip book.

Assignments:    None.

FYI:  Parents!  Starting on Monday (10/22, the first day of the second quarter), teachers in the Aurora house will no longer accept late work from our students.  Students will get credit for the work they do, when it is due.
