8th Grade Math: Today in math students revisited the rules for using multiplicative inverses when solving equations and inequalities, section 5.7. We spent the entire hour practicing several different examples with Mr. Olsen leading the way. Students worked in table groups to help each other solve each separate example.

Assignments: Review HW #10 is due on Wednesday.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students who were able to test on chapter 5 last week, made their test corrections and continued practicing multiplying and dividing fractions. We also had several students who were not here last week, and thus, those students took the chapter 5 test today.

Assignments: Review HW #10 is due Wednesday.

Science: Today in science students took the first 10 minutes of class to review for their Genetics Quiz. Mr. Olsen then handed out the quizzes and students had the rest of the hour to complete the quiz.

Assignments: None.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students revisited the rules for using multiplicative inverses when solving equations. We then graded the assigned homework from Wednesday, the section 5.6 worksheet (evens only), before Mr. Olsen determined that more practice was necessary for most students. We spent the rest of the hour completing the 5.6 worksheet (odds) for Friday.

Assignments: Review HW #9 is due on Friday. Complete the 5.6 worksheet (odds) for Friday.

7th Grade Math: Today students took the chapter 5 TEST!

Assignments: Review HW #9 is due Friday.

Science: Today in science we reviewed for the genetics test coming up on Monday. Students were handed a worksheet to practice creating punnett squares and ensure the understanding of phenotypes, genotypes and other key vocabulary terms. Friday we will be blocking our afternoon for the Greek Olympic Games.

Assignments: Students should be reviewing for the genetic test scheduled for Monday.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students reviewed the rules for using multiplicative inverses when solving equations. After some teacher led examples, students were handed a worksheet (section 5.6) and asked to complete the even problems for class on Thursday.

Assignments: Review HW #9 is due on Friday. Section 5.6 worksheet (all evens) is due on Thursday.

7th Grade Math: Today students began class by using their flashmasters. We then moved back into chapter 5 and reviewed began a class review activity to help prepare students for their chapter 5 test that is scheduled for THURSDAY.

Assignments: Review HW #9 is due Friday. The Chapter 5 test is tomorrow!

Science: Today in science, students presented their Spongebob Squarepants Genetic projects to their classmates. These projects were due today in class and if students were not done, Thursday is the official cutoff date for Mr. Olsen to accept late work. Friday will be the test on our genetics unit.

Assignments: Students should be reviewing for the genetic test scheduled for Friday.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students reviewed the rules for multiplying and dividing fractions and mixed numbers. Mr. Olsen then led students through several examples before handing students the 5.5 worksheet and giving them about 35 minutes of class time to get some work done.

Assignments: Review HW #8 is due on Friday. Section 5.5 worksheet (#1-20 all and 21-35 odds) is due on Thursday.

7th Grade Math: Today students began class by using their flashmasters. We then moved back into chapter 5 and reviewed customary units of measure, before reviewing section 5.6 and converting customary units. Mr. Olsen led students through several examples problems. Students were then handed the 5.6 worksheet and given about 25 minutes of class time to complete the work assigned.

Assignments: Review HW #8 is due Friday. Section 5.6 worksheet is due on Thursday in class.

Science: Today in science, students were given another work day for their Bikini Bottom Genetic Project. Mr. Olsen came around the classroom again today, checking individual students off on each of the six required items needed before they are allowed to begin their final projects. There will be a checklist hanging up in the classroom for students to be aware of what they need to accomplish leading up to the final phase of the activity.

Assignments: Students should be past the planning phase of the project and moving into the production phase of the Bikini Bottom Genetic Project. There will be no science on Thursday as 8th graders are NAEP testing tomorrow afternoon after lunch. 7th graders will be with Mr. Sheufelt tomorrow afternoon.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students reviewed the rules for multiplying fractions and mixed numbers, before Mr. Olsen introduced the next section, 5.5 on dividing fractions and mixed numbers. Mr. Olsen led students through instruction and several example problems before we ran out of time in class.

Assignments: Review HW #7 is due on Wednesday.

Students were still having trouble grasping the concepts, so we practiced as a group for the whole hour.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students reviewed adding and subtracting like and unlike fractions. We then graded the section 5.4 worksheet on multiplying fractions, and determined that we needed extra practice on the subject. So, today was spent practicing multiplying fractions and mixed numbers.

Assignments: Review HW #7 is due on Wednesday.

We then moved back into chapter 5 and reviewed customary units of measure, before introducing the 5.6 and converting customary units. After some teacher led instruction, Mr. Olsen led students through several examples problems.

Science: Today in science, students were informed of the expectations regarding the Bikini Bottom Spongebob Genetic Project we have been working on for the past few weeks. Students were handed a scoring guide today in science, outlining for students Mr. Olsen's expectations regarding the final product, which will be due either at the end of class on Friday or first thing Monday.

Assignments: Students should be planning out their final project for the Spongebob project. They should be coming to class on Tuesday with a materials list that they will need in produce their final product.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students reviewed adding and subtracting like and unlike fractions. We then graded the section 5.3 worksheet as a class. Next, we transitioned into section 5.4 and multiplying fractions. Mr. Olsen led the class through some teacher led instruction and several example problems, before offering students an exit ticket from class by completing a problem on their own and showing Mr. Olsen.

Assignments: Review HW #6 is due on Friday.

7th Grade Math: Today students began class by using their flashmasters. We then moved back into chapter 5 and graded the section 5.5 worksheet as a class. We then reviewed the importance of using the U.S. customary system of measurement and the importance of using rulers, scales and reading capacity measurements accurately.

Assignments: Review HW #6 is due Friday.

Science: Students are MAPS testing on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. We will reconvene for science on Friday. Today students partook in the Reading test.

Assignments: Students can continue working on the Spongebob Project throughout the week leading up to the next science class.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students reviewed adding and subtracting like fractions. We graded the 5.2 worksheet as a class, before students were introduced to section 5.3 and adding and subtracting UNlike fractions and mixed numbers. Mr. Olsen provided direct instruction, before leading the students through several example problems.

Assignments: Review HW #5 is due on Wednesday.

7th Grade Math: Today students began class by using their flashmasters. We then moved back into chapter 5 and graded the section four worksheet as a class. We then moved into section 5 and introduce the U.S. customary system of measurement to students. We had a class discussion concerning the differences between the metric system and US customary system, before having students participate in a mini scavenger hunt, looking for objects of certain length using a ruler.

Assignments: Review HW #5 is due Wednesday.

Science: Students are MAPS testing on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. We will reconvene for science on Thursday or Friday. Today students partook in the Language Usage test.

Assignments: Students can continue working on the Spongebob Project throughout the week leading up to the next science class.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students revisited adding and subtracting like fractions. Mr. Olsen led several example problems with the class, before handing out a worksheet and offering 30 minutes of in class work time for students to work through the assignment with help available if needed.

After reviewing the rules for adding, subtracting and multiplying fractions and mixed numbers, Mr. Olsen led students through several example problems, before handing out a worksheet for students to practice their skills.

8th Grade Math: Today in math, students were introduced to chapter 5 and section one on rational numbers. Students are learning about strategies to convert fractions to decimals and vise versa. Mr. Olsen handed back the chapter 4 tests, and allowed students about 20 minutes to make test corrections, before we jumped back into chapter 5 and section 1. After some teacher led instruction and examples, students were handed a worksheet (odds only) to practice their skills with Mr. Olsen present to provide help where necessary.

Assignments: Review HW #4 is due on Friday. Complete the 5.1 worksheet (odds only) for Friday.

7th Grade Math: Today students began class by using their flashmasters. 7th graders were Terra Nova testing again today and the testing ran over the original time set aside, and in the end, students had about 10 minutes of math today.

Assignments: Review HW #5 is due Friday. Complete the 5.3 worksheet for Friday.

Science: Today in science students continued working on their genetic profile of their selected Spongebob character. Once they finished up their genetic profiles, they were asked to read pages 88-93 in the text book in order to gain an understanding of punnett squares, as a lead in to tomorrow lesson.

8th Grade Math: Today in math, students were introduced to chapter 5 and section one on rational numbers. Students began learning about strategies to convert fractions to decimals and vise versa.

7th Grade Math: Today students began class by using their flashmasters. We then moved right back into section 5.3 on multiplying fractions and mixed numbers. Today we reviewed the rules for multiplying fractions and mixed numbers, before students were handed a worksheet to practice their skills.

Science: Today in science students took part in a class survey, detailing different traits that are past down from parents. The learning objective of class again today was for students to be able to tell the difference between dominant and recessive alleles (genes). We also introduced the next activity that is going to be dealing with the genetic profiles of a Spongebob Squarepants character.

8th Grade Math: Students finished up the chapter 4 test today.

Assignments: None.

7th Grade Math: Today students began class by using their flashmasters. We then moved right back into section 5.3 on multiplying fractions and mixed numbers. 7th graders took a Terra Nova test this morning, and our second hour math class was cut by 30 minutes. Wednesday will be a full class period.

Assignments: Review HW #4 is due Wednesday.

Science: Today in science students took part in a class survey, detailing different traits that are past down from parents. The learning objective of class today was for students to be able to tell the difference between dominant and recessive alleles (genes).

Assignments: During class students completed a survey using their classmates. For homework, I have asked students to take this same survey at home with their families.
