7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students completed the chapter 4 test.  

Assignments:  None.   

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Today students reviewed the process of solving equations using addition and subtraction.  Next, students were introduced to solving equations using division or multiplication.  After some teacher led instruction, students worked through some examples together.     

Assignments:  None.    

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students continued working with and learning about the periodic table.  Today students continued learning about the organization of the periodic table, and students completed their blank periodic table, by following the directions provided to them.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students took the chapter 4 test.  Since we are having Toolbox everyday this week, our math classes are a bit shorter each day, thus students will be given about 30 minutes of class time on Thursday to complete the test if they need the time.  

Assignments:  None.   

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Today students were introduced to solving equations using addition and subtraction.  After some teacher led instruction and several example problems, students were assigned the section 2.5 worksheet, to be due in class.      

Assignments:  The section 2.5 worksheet on solving equations using addition and subtraction will be due on Thursday in class.     

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students continued working with and learning about the periodic table.  Today students continued learning about the organization of the periodic table, and students were assigned to completely fill in a blank periodic table, by following the directions provided to them.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Today students were introduced to solving equations using addition and subtraction.  After some teacher led instruction and several example problems, students were assigned problems from the text book, page 93 #11-25 (odds) for class on Wednesday.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students reviewed simplifying fractions, as well as the rules of multiplying and dividing powers. Students were then introduced to scientific notation, product form and standard form.  After some teacher led instruction, students practiced converting numbers into and out of all three forms.  Students were then assigned the section 4.7 worksheet as homework for Tuesday.    

Assignments:  The section 4.7 worksheet is due Tuesday in class.  Review Homework #26 is due Wednesday in class.    

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Today students reviewed the process of identifying the terms, like terms, coefficients and constants of an expression.  Next, students practiced developing equations out of word sentences.  After some teacher led instruction and a few example problems, students were assigned the section 2.4 worksheet on solving equations mentally, to be due Tuesday in class.

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students continued working with and learning about the periodic table.  Today students were learning about the organization of nonmetals and metalloids and how to locate them on the periodic table.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students reviewed simplifying fractions, as well as the rules of multiplying and dividing powers.  Many students had troubles simplifying monomial fractions, so we spent the majority of class discussing and going over several examples of monomial fractions.  Students were then briefly introduced to scientific notation.  Students can expect a quiz on Friday on the first six sections of chapter 4.   

Assignments:  Review Homework #25 is due Friday in class.    

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Today students reviewed the process of identifying the terms, like terms, coefficients and constants of an expression.  Next, students practiced developing equations out of word sentences.  After some teacher led instruction and a few example problems, students were assigned several problems from the text book, and given about 35 minutes of class time to complete the assignment.  Students turned in their work before leaving class.  Students can expect a quiz on the first three sections of chapter 2 on Friday.

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students continued working with and learning about the periodic table.  Today students were learning about the organization of metals on the periodic table, and how to determine if an element was a metal, non-metal or metalloid.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students reviewed the rules associated with multiplying and dividing powers.  Students then completed the the lesson on negative and zero exponents.  We reviewed the rules that say that any nonzero number raised to a zero exponent is always equal to 1.  We also reviewed how to remove negative exponents by placing them into the denominator of a fraction.  After some teacher led instruction and several examples, students were assigned the 4.6 worksheet as homework, to be due Thursday in class.   

Assignments:  Students were assigned the section 4.6 worksheet as homework to be due Thursday in class.  Review Homework #25 is due Friday in class.    

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Today students reviewed the process of identifying the terms, like terms, coefficients and constants of an expression.  Next, students were introduced to writing out an expression from a given word sentence.  We practiced several examples together as a class before we ran out of class time.

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students continued working with and learning about the periodic table.  Today students were learning about the organization of the table and how elements came to be in the position they are in on the table.  We finished reading chapter 3 section 1 as a class, and students were responsible for answering some guiding questions as we read, as well as defining some key vocabulary words as we read.     

Assignments:  Students were assigned the section 3.1 worksheet on Organizing the Elements, to be due on Thursday in class.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students reviewed the rules associated with multiplying and dividing powers.  Students practiced several examples of dividing or multiplying exponents, including some challenge problems designed to help students connect with the rules (properties).  Students were then introduced to negative and zero exponents.  We worked through some examples that displayed patterns, in the hope that students began to make connections to the rules and the actual problems they are being asked to solve.  After some teacher led instruction and several example problems, students were assigned problems from their at home text books, page 201-202 #1-31, to be due Wednesday in class.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Today students continued working with simplifying expressions.  Many students did not complete their homework on Monday evening, thus todays class period was dedicated to students actually competing the assignment of section 2.3.  

Assignments:  Review homework #25 is due Wednesday in class.  The section 2.3 worksheet (odds) is due Wednesday in class if they did not complete the work in the class time provided.   

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students were introduced to the periodic table.  Students began class by completing the Think, Write Pair share activity from yesterday's class, before we began to read about the history of the periodic table.  Students were responsible for answering several guiding questions as we read about the organization of the elements of the periodic table.    

Assignments:  Students were assigned the section 3.1 worksheet on Organizing the Elements, to be due on Thursday in class.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students reviewed the rules associated with multiplying and dividing powers.  We graded the section 4.5 worksheet, before we went over the quiz as a class to answer any questions and to clarify any confusion.  We then briefly practiced multiplying powers as well as dividing powers.  


Assignments:  Review Homework #24 is due Wednesday in class.    

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Today students continued working with simplifying expressions.  Students reviewed the quiz we took on Friday, before students were assigned the section 2.3 worksheet (odds) and given the rest of class to begin working on the assignment.

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students were introduced to the periodic table.  Students began defining several key vocabulary words, before students participated in a Think, Write Pair share activity.  Students read an essay about the periodic table, and answered several questions regarding the reading, before watching a quick video of the origins of the periodic table.      

Assignments:  Students have been asked to come into class on Tuesday with their thoughts concerning the four questions at the top of the back side of the Think Write Pair Share worksheet for class on Tuesday.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students were introduced to multiplying and dividing powers.  Students wrote down the properties in their notebooks, before we explored the concepts through examples and teacher led instruction.  Students were then assigned the section 4.5 worksheet to be due on Friday in class.  Students can also expect a quiz in class on Friday on the first four sections of chapter 4.  

Assignments:  The section 4.5 worksheet is due on Friday in class.  Friday is quiz day as well!

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students continued learning the basics of atoms.  Today in class students worked through an interactive with Mr. Olsen, before we began exploring the history of the Hindenburg blimp and the tragedy that engulfed it.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students were introduced to finding the LCM (Least Common Multiple) of two or more numbers, monomials or fractions.  We reviewed the difference between factors and multiples, before students learned the two methods of finding a LCM.  Students really struggled with finding the LCM of monomials, as well as Least common denominators.  Thus, we spent todays class period reviewing the process, and doing several examples together.  Students were then assigned problems from the text book, page 190 #16-30 evens; and 40 - 52 evens, to be due Thursday in class.         

Assignments:  The book work from page 190 #16-30 and 40-52 evens, are due Wednesday in class.    

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students continued working with properties of addition and multiplication. Today students were introduced to simplifying expressions.  Students reviewed several key vocabulary words, and we then practiced identifying the terms, coefficients, like terms and constants within an expression.

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students continued learning the basics of atoms.  Today in class students began learning about how atoms of different elements can bond together in order to form a molecule.  After some group discussion, students were handed some toothpicks, gummy bears and marshmallows and were asked to build a water molecule.  We then made other molecules with the materials they had in hand.         

Assignments:  Students should be completing the Particles of Matter worksheet and the packet entitled Structure of Matter for class on Thursday.

Today students were introduced to simplifying expressions.  Students defined several key vocabulary words, and we then practiced identifying the terms, coefficients, like terms and constants within an expression.

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students began learning the basics of atoms.  We finished reading the section entitled "Particles of Matter" in the book, and everyone participated in a discussion about the subatomic particles within an atom (protons, electrons and neutrons).  After some teacher led instruction and some examples of models of atoms, students were asked to draw a model of an oxygen atom and write five sentences comparing the similarities and differences between an oxygen atom and a carbon atom.        

Assignments:  Students should be drawing an example of an oxygen atom and writing five sentences comparing the similarities and differences of the two models for class on Wednesday.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students reviewed the methods of finding the GCF of two or more numbers or monomials.  Many students struggled with finding the GCF of monomials, so we took some time reviewing the process of factoring each monomial within a fraction in order to put into simplest form.     


Assignments:  Review Homework #23 is due Wednesday in class.

Today students continued working with the distributive property.   After some teacher led instruction, students attempted several examples together in class, before students were assigned problems from the extra practice section on their at home text book, page 804 #1-19 to be due Tuesday in class.

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students began learning the basics of atoms.  We read the section entitled "Particles of Matter" together as a group and students answered several questions throughout the reading, before we ended class with a discussion about the breakdown of the subatomic particles within an atom, the proton, neutron, and the electron.

Happy Thanksgiving!! Gobble, Gobble!!!

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students reviewed the methods of finding the GCF of two or more numbers or monomials.  Students were then introduced to finding equivalent fractions by multiplying or dividing the numerators and denominators by the same number.  Next, students began putting fractions into simplest form by finding the GCF of the numerators and denominators and dividing both by that GCF.  After some teacher led instruction and several example problems, students were assigned the section 4.3 worksheet as homework, to be due Monday in class.      

Assignments:  The section 4.3 worksheet is due Monday in class.  Students were also assigned problems from the at home text books, page 775 #2-16 evens, and page 776 #1-19 odds, to be due Monday December 2 in class.

Today students continued working with the distributive property.   After some teacher led instruction, students attempted several examples together in class, before students were assigned the section 2.2 worksheet, to be due Monday December 2 in class.

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students continued working with density.  Todays lab had students calculating the densities of several irregular shaped solids, by measuring their dimensions, finding its mass, and calculating its volume and density.     

Assignments:  Students were offered extra credit opportunities, and should be completing the work over break to bring into class on Monday if they would like the credit.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students were introduced to GCF's (greatest common factors).  Today students learned two different methods in order to find the GCF, method one has students listing factors and finding the greatest common factor in each list.  Method two has students finding the prime factorization of the numbers in questions and multiplying together the common factors from each list in order to find the GCF.  After some teacher led instruction and a few example problems, students were assigned problems from their at home text books, p. 179 #12-27 to be due Tuesday in class.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students were introduced to chapter 4.  Today, students learned some key vocabulary concerning prime factorization, and after some teacher led instruction, and several example problems for students to observe and ask clarifying questions, students were assigned the section 4.1 worksheet as homework.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students continued working with properties of addition and multiplication. Today students were introduced to the distributive property.   After some teacher led instruction, we watched a short video online about the distributive property, and took a short quiz about the film together, confirming our answers together.    

Assignments:  Review Homework #21 is due Friday in class. 

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students participated in a lab designed to help students identify the differences between mixtures and pure substances, as well as homogenous and heterogenous mixtures.  

Assignments:  Students should be completing their Mixing Mixtures lab worksheet for class on Friday.  Students were also assigned a worksheet on Describing Matter, to be due on Friday as well.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students  were given an extra 35 minutes to complete their chapter 3 test.  We then transitioned into an activity designed to help students identify all of the prime numbers between 0 and 100.  An extension opportunity was offered for students to extend the pattern of primes to 200.     

Assignments:  Review homework #21 is due on Friday.  The worksheet students began in class, finding the prime numbers between 0 and 100, is due Thursday in class.  

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students continued working with properties of addition and multiplication.  Today students played a game called Concentration, designed to help them learn the differences between the Commutative and Associative properties of addition and multiplication.    

Assignments:  Review Homework #21 is due Friday in class. 

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students participated in an activity designed to help them be able to identify the differences between physical and chemical changes.   

Assignments:  Students can be bringing in materials for a lab on Thursday on mixtures vs. pure substances.  We need dry cereal, pretzels, M & M's and powdered drink mix (Crystal Light, Gatorade, Kool-aid, etc....).

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students began taking the chapter 3 test.  Students will be given more class time on Wednesday to finish up the test.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students continued working with properties of addition and multiplication.  Many students did not complete their homework, so class time today became a make up day.  Students NEED to have a good handle on the properties of addition and multiplication in order to understand the next concept, the distributive property.  Students spent today's class period practicing simplifying expressions and identifying properties used in their homework.    

Assignments:  Review Homework #20 is due Wednesday in class. 

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students were introduced to the concept of matter.  They defined the three main states of matter, and participated in an activity designed to highlight the differences between physical and chemical changes of an object.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students participated in a chapter review activity, entitled "around the room review."  Students moved around the classroom solving equations and inequalities based on an assigned letter, in order to practice and hone their skills for the chapter 3 test on Tuesday.        

Assignments:  The chapter 3 test will be Tuesday in class.  Review homework #20 is due on Wednesday.  

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students continued working with properties of addition and multiplication.  Students were also introduced to the idea of using conversion factors in order to convert between different units.  After some teacher led instruction and several example problems, students were assigned problems from the text book, on page 66 #17-35 Odds only, to be due on Tuesday in class.    

Assignments:  Review Homework #20 is due Wednesday in class.  Students were also assigned problems from their at home text books, page 66 #17-35 odds to be due Tuesday in class.  Students should also be completing the section 2.1 worksheet if they did not complete it over the weekend.     

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students read an article comparing agrochemicals and petrochemicals, and shared their thoughts through a Think, Write Pair Share activity.  Finally, students were introduced to several new vocabulary words, and students had to classify the words as something they have seen or not seen before.      

Assignments:  Students should be completing the How well do I know these words worksheet for Tuesday in class.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students eased into the final section of chapter 3 on solving multi-step inequalities using multiple operations.  We reviewed the steps of solving equations, and related those rules to solving inequalities.  After some teacher led instruction, and several example problems, students were assigned the section 3.6 worksheet as homework, to be due Friday in class.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students were introduced to chapter two.  We spent todays class period reviewing the prerequisite skills gained during chapter one, and we also reviewed the perimeter and area formulas for triangles and quadrilaterals.      

Assignments:  Review Homework #19 is due Friday in class.  Students were also assigned to take notes for section 2.1 in their at home text books for class on Friday.   

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students took the vocabulary test they have been prepping for since last week.

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students took a pop quiz on the 30 vocabulary words they are learning.  Thursday in class students will be taking the "real" test on these vocab words.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students jumped back into chapter 3.  Today students were introduced to solving inequalities by using multiplication and division.  There are some new rules associated with inequalities and multiplying and/or dividing by negative integers.  After some teacher led instruction, and several examples, students were assigned problems from their at home text books, page 146 #12-28, to be due Wednesday (11/13/2013) of next week.     

Assignments:  The problems from page 146 #12-28 are due Wednesday in class.  Students were also handed a review worksheet to be due Wednesday in class as well.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students took the chapter one test.

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students began learning about chemistry root words, including commonly used prefixes and suffixes.  Students are currently learning and committing to memory, about 30 chemistry related root words, prefixes and suffixes.  Students spent todays class period reviewing their flashcards, as well as creating a physical action to represent each individual word to help them make connections between the word and its definition.      

Assignments:  Students should be reviewing the 30 flashcards of the vocabulary words they are committing to memory for next week's test.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students jumped back into chapter 3.  Today we continued talking about inequalities and solving inequalities by using addition and/or subtraction.  Students learned how to graph an inequality solution on a number line, and after some teacher led instruction, and a few example problems, students were assigned the section 3.4 worksheet as homework and given about 15 minutes of class time to get started.     

Assignments:  The section 3.4 worksheet is due Wednesday in class.  Review Homework #18 is due Wednesday in class.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students began the review process for the upcoming chapter one test on Wednesday.      

Assignments:  Review Homework #18 is due Wednesday in class.  Students can expect the chapter one test on Wednesday of this week.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students jumped back into chapter 3.  Today we began talking about inequalities and solving inequalities by using addition and/or subtraction.  Students learned how to graph an inequality solution on a number line, and after some teacher led instruction, and a few example problems, students were assigned problems #1-10 on page 140 of their at home text books.    

Assignments:  Problems #1-10 on page 140 of the text book are due Tuesday in class. Review Homework #18 is due Wednesday in class.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, students jumped back into chapter one and today we learned about the coordinate plane and how to identify and plot points upon the coordinate plane.  Students learned several key vocabulary words, as well as how to label and use the coordinate plane.  After some teacher led instruction and several example problems, students were assigned the section 1.8 worksheet, to be due on Tuesday in class.    

Assignments:  The section 1.8 worksheet is due Tuesday in class.  Review Homework #18 is due Wednesday in class.  Students can expect the chapter one test on Wednesday of this week.
