8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students went down to the library and they were introduced to a new math website, Hour of Code.  After the introduction to the website, students were allowed to play some math games embedded in the website.  Students spent the rest of the class period interacting with the website.   

Assignments:  None.   

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students went down to the library and they were introduced to a new math website, Hour of Code.  After the introduction to the website, students were allowed to play some math games embedded in the website.  Students spent the rest of the class period interacting with the website.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Students were then introduced to chapter 3 and solving two step equations.  After reviewing how to simplify expressions and solve one and two step equations, students were introduced to solving equations with variables on both sides of the equal sign.  After some teacher led instruction, and several examples, we ran out of class time.  

Assignments:  Review HW #25 is due Thursday in class.  

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Students were then given the remaining time in class to complete the Presidential Average Age activity.  Students found the names of all 44 US presidents and their ages at inauguration in order to calculate the mean, median, mode and range of that data set. This assignment was due at the end of class today.   

Assignments:  Review HW #25 is due Thursday in class. 

Science: Students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students began watching a film on how the body's immune system reacts to pathogens.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Students were then introduced to chapter 3 and solving two step equations.  After reviewing how to simplify expressions and solve one step equations, students began solving the two step equations.  After some teacher led instruction and several example problems, students were assigned the section 3.2 worksheet as homework, to be due Wednesday in class.  

Assignments:  Review HW #25 is due Thursday in class.  The section 3.2 worksheet is due Wednesday in class. 

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Students then went over the homework from last Friday, the section 3.1 worksheet on mean, median, mode and range of a data set.  Students were then introduced to our next activity, the Presidential Averages Activity.  Students will be finding the names of all 44 US presidents and their ages at inauguration in order to calculate the mean, median, mode and range of that data set.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Students were then introduced to chapter 3 and solving two step equations.  After reviewing how to simplify expressions and solve one step equations, students began solving the two step equations.  After some teacher led instruction and several example problems, students were assigned some problems from the text book, page 127 # 12,14, 16, 18, 19 to be due Friday in class.  

Students can expect a quiz on solving two step equations on Friday in class.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Students then went over the results from our graphs and statistics pre-test we took on Wednesday and used our class results in order to create a data set of numbers to use to begin practicing finding the mean, median, mode and range of that dataset.   

Assignments:  Review HW #24 is due Friday in class. 

Science: Students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students began preparing for the chapter 1 test from the Cells and Heredity textbook.  Students were responsible for completing the chapter review activity today in class.

The chapter 1 test will be Monday in class.

Science: Students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students read section four from chapter one in the Cells and Heredity textbook, The Cell in its Environment.  Students defined some key vocabulary, before we read the section together as a class and answered several questions as we read.  The section 1.4 worksheet is due Thursday in class.

Science: Students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students reviewed the organelles within a cell.  Students then completed an assignment where they were matching the functions or roles of each organelle with the proper organelle and coming up with a memory trick to help them remember that function.   

Assignments:  Students should be completing the function/organelle worksheet if they did not finish in the class time provided.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Students then completed a notebook check from their chapter 2 notes.  Once students completed their notebook check and handed it in, they were handed a corrections sheet, and asked to complete their chapter 2 test corrections.  

Assignments:  Review HW #22 is due Friday in class.   The chapter 2 test corrections are due Friday in class.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Students were then introduced to the metric system.  Today we reviewed the common prefixes used when measuring length, mass and capacity when using the metric system.  Students then participated in a vocabulary word sorting activity to help students understand the differences between customary and metric units.  

The chapter 2 test will be on Monday of next week!

Assignments:  Review HW #22 is due Friday in class.  Students were assigned a customary and metric benchmark worksheet to be due Friday in class.  

Science: Students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students reviewed the organelles within a cell.  Students then took notes while Mr. Olsen presented an analogy about how a cell is like a factory.  Students were then handed a homework assignment where they will create their own analogy about how a cell is like our school.  

Assignments:  The analogy of how a cell is like DHMS is due Friday in class.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Students were then introduced to the metric system.  Today we reviewed the common prefixes used when measuring length, mass and capacity when using the metric system.  We then built a foldable to help students memorize the 7 key metric vocabulary prefixes Mr. Olsen has asked the students to learn.    

Assignments:  Review HW #22 is due Friday in class.  

Science: Students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students reviewed the organelles within a cell.  Students were then given a final day of class to continue working on their drawings of a plant or animal cell.  Each drawing will need to include the organelles that each cell contains as well as an explanation about the function of each organelle.  Each drawing will also need to include color and the students name.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Students were then introduced to the metric system.  Today we reviewed the common prefixes used when measuring length, mass and capacity when using the metric system.  We then practiced converting between smaller to bigger units and vise versa.  After some teacher led instruction and several example problems, students were assigned the section 2.7 worksheet, to be due Wednesday in class.  

Assignments:  Review HW #21 is due Wednesday in class.  

Science: Students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students reviewed the organelles within a cell.  Students were then allowed another day of class to continue working on their drawings of a plant or animal cell.  Each drawing will need to include the organelles that each cell contains as well as an explanation about the function of each organelle.  Each drawing will also need to include color and the students name.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Students then transitioned back into chapter 2.    We continued reviewing how to solve equations using inverse (opposite) operations.  Students then reviewed the rules for working with decimal numbers when using all operations, as the final section in chapter 2 deals with solving equations with decimal numbers.  After some teacher led instruction and several example problems, students were assigned the section 2.7 worksheet (odds only) to be due Tuesday in class.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Students then transitioned back into chapter 2.    We continued reviewing how to solve equations using inverse (opposite) operations.  Students reviewed how to solve equations using multiplication and/or division.  Next, students took a quiz on solving equations.     

Assignments:  Students were handed a worksheet where they will practice finding the area and perimeter of triangles for homework, to be due Monday.   

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Students were then introduced to chapter 2 on decimal operations.  Today students took a quiz on decimal operations and scientific notation.   

Assignments:  Students were handed a worksheet to help them learn the metric units for length, and it will be due on Monday.   

Science: Students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students took a vocabulary test on the 33 roots, prefixes and suffixes they have been memorizing for the past week.     

Assignments:  Students were handed a word search on the new vocabulary about cell organelles, to be due on Friday in class.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Students then transitioned back into chapter 2.    We continued reviewing how to solve equations using inverse (opposite) operations.  Students reviewed how to solve equations using multiplication and/or division.  Next, students reviewed the rules for working with decimal operations, as the final section of chapter two deals with solving equations that include decimal numbers.  Students can expect a quiz on solving equations in class on Thursday.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Students were then introduced to chapter 2 on decimal operations.  Today students were introduced to the metric system.  Students were introduced to some key vocabulary in regards to the basic units of measurement when using the metric system before we ran out of class time. 

Assignments:  Review HW #19 is due Thursday in class.  

Science: Students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students transitioned back into memorizing the 33 scientific vocabulary prefixes, suffixes and root words that all students will be required to know.  Students participated in a review activity designed to help them continue memorizing the 33 vocabulary words.  The vocab test is scheduled for Thursday of this week.    

Assignments:  Students should be reviewing their 33 flashcards of the vocabulary words they will be tested on, on Thursday of this week.
