 Algebra I:  Students began class by completing a warm up problem, before we reviewed our homework from Monday.  Next, students reviewed solving inequalities using addition, subtraction as well as multiplication and division.  We revisited the rule of flipping our inequality symbol if you multiply or divide by a negative value.  After some teacher led instruction on solving multi-step inequalities and inequalities with special solutions, students were assigned some homework from the TEXTBOOK, pages 77-78 #1; 2; 13-16; 22-28 evens; 32-35; 37; 41-43, to be due by Friday in class on Canvas.

7th Grade Math: Students began class with a warm up problem, before students reviewed the rules for adding integers and subtracting integers.  Next, students began learning about and working with multiplying and dividing integers.  Students were introduced to the rules for multiplying with the same signs and different signs.  We then practiced several problems together in class.

Assignments: None. 

Science:  Students spent todays science class period reviewing the work that should have been completed coming into class today.  Students were clarifying expectations on our animal drawings, before watching a quick Edpuzzle video on rhinos.  Students were then given the remaining class time begin working on the next portion of the research (Reproduction and Population Dynamics) or to finish up any of the work that should be completed and submitted on Canvas already.  

Assignments: Students should have their Habitat/Niche and Adaptations research assignments submitted on Canvas.

Algebra I:  Students began class by completing a warm up problem, before we reviewed our homework from Monday.  Next, students reviewed solving equations and absolute value equations.  After some teacher led instruction on writing and graphing inequalities as well as solving inequalities using addition and subtraction, students were assigned some homework from the practice workbook, pages 31-32 and 36-37, to be due by Thursday in class on Canvas.

Assignments:   Practice workbook pages 31-32 and 36-37 are due in class on Thursday.  Students should be uploading an image of their work onto the assignment on Canvas.

7th Grade Math: Students began class with a warm up problem, before students reviewed the rules for adding integers.  Today, students continued talking about how to subtract integers.  Students participated in a Gimkit activity in class related to adding and subtracting integers. 

Assignments: Students should be completing the 10/12/20 Subtracting Integers WS #2 assignment and submitting it on Canvas.  

Science:  Students spent todays science class period being introduced to our Endangered Species Project.  Students spent today's class researching about the Habitat and Niche of their chosen endangered species by completing an assignment in Canvas.  

Assignments: Students should have their Trophic Cascades assignment uploaded to our Canvas science page if they haven't already.  Students should have submitted their Choose their animal and Identifying the problem.

Algebra I:  Students began class by completing a warm up problem, before we had a class conversation about our chapter 1 test taken last week.  Next, students began talking about chapter 2 and inequalities.  After a bit of teacher instruction, students were given class time to begin working on today's assignment, practice work book pages 28-30, to be due on Tuesday in class.

Assignments:   Practice workbook pages 28-30 are due in class on Tuesday.  Students should be uploading an image of their work onto the assignment on Canvas.

7th Grade Math: Students began class with a warm up problem, before students reviewed the rules for adding integers.  Today, students continued talking about how to subtract integers.  Students were given class time to open todays assignment through google assignments on Canvas.  

Assignments: Students should be completing the 10/12/20 Subtracting Integers WS #2 assignment and submitting it on Canvas.  

Science:  Students spent todays science class period being introduced to our Endangered Species Project.  Students spent today's class choosing their endangered species they want to research and learn more about.  Students were then filling in a few google slides as part of todays assignment on Canvas.

Algebra I:  Students began class by completing a warm up problem, before we addressed our "practice test" we took on the Big Ideas website on Tuesday.  It was a good opportunity for students to identify holes in their learning from chapter 1.  During todays class, students were broken into groups and assigned to a breakout room, where they worked together to solve a series of problems from each section of chapter 1 (section 1-5) prepared ahead of time and shared to each student through Canvas as an assignment.  Students will be taking the OFFICIAL chapter 1 test on Friday in class.

Assignments:   The chapter 1 test is scheduled for class on Friday.  Any missing homework assignments associated with chapter 1 need to be submitted on Canvas by the end of the day on Friday (10/9/20) for any credit.

7th Grade Math: Students began class with a warm up problem, before students reviewed the rules for adding integers.  Today, students continued talking about how to subtract integers.  Students were given class time to open todays assignment through google assignments on Canvas.  

Assignments: Students should be completing the 10/5/20 Subtracting Integers #1 assignment on Canvas.  Students should also be completing the 10/8/20 Subtracting Integers 1.3 on Canvas.

Science:  Students spent todays science class period continuing our discussion on the meaning of trophic levels and how food webs work in nature. Students were then introduced to our new assignment on Trophic Cascades within Canvas.  Students were given about 30 minutes of class time to watch some videos related to trophic cascades and fill in some slides embedded within the assignment.  The big piece of the current assignment has students drawing images depicting how the Arctic Ocean ecosystem functions with and without smelt.

Assignments: Students should have their Levels of Biological Organization project submitted on Canvas if they haven't already done so.

Algebra I:  Students began class by completing a warm up problem, before students reviewed the homework from Friday (section 1.5 workbook pages 25 & 26).  Next, students logged into the Big Ideas website and took a practice test in preparation for the official Chapter 1 Test scheduled for Tuesday in class.

Assignments:   Students can expect the CHAPTER 1 TEST on Tuesday in class.  Any missing homework assignments associated with chapter 1 need to be submitted on Canvas by the end of the day on Wednesday (10/7/20) for any credit.

Science:  Students spent todays science class period being introduced to the idea of Trophic Levels and Food Chains in nature.  After some class discussion on the meaning of trophic and how food webs work in nature, students were guided into a unit on BrainPop, in which they have a series of mini-assignments to complete on the BrainPop website.

Algebra I:  Students began class by completing a warm up problem, before we jumped into reviewing our homework from Friday on solving multi-step equations with variables on both sides of the equal sign.  Today students continued working with the concept of solving absolute value equations.  After some teacher led instruction, students were assigned some homework from section 1.4 in the text book page 32 #2-18 on the Canvas homepage, which is due by Thursday in class.

Assignments:   Students can be accessing today's assignment from section 1.4 in the text book (page 32 #2-18) on our Canvas homepage. This assignment should be submitted on Canvas by class time on Thursday.

7th Grade Math: Students began class with a warm up problem, before students logged back into the IXL program from our Clever portals.  Students spent todays class attempting to complete the math diagnostic test on IXL.  

Assignments: Students should be attempting to upload any missing assignments in powerschool onto our Canvas math page.

Science:  Students spent todays science class period being introduced to the Local Ecology Project.  Students are being asked to go outside their home, and find a small plot of land that they can return to once or twice a month to make observations and generally just notice how that plot of land changes over time.  The directions for the project were located on our Science Canvas homepage, and gave students information and direction on how to complete the tasks being asked of them.

Assignments: Students should have submitted their Characteristics of Life note taking guide on the organism they chose to research, and finalizing and submitting their Digital Poster on that research. The DIGITAL POSTER is due as soon as possible (the official due date was the end of the day on Monday 9/21/20).

Science:  Students spent todays science class period reviewing C.R.A.P. and before being given all of the time available in class to be completing their Living Organism Digital Poster projects that are due at the end of the day (Monday 9/21/20).

Assignments: Students should have submitted their Characteristics of Life note taking guide on the organism they chose to research, and finalizing and submitting their Digital Poster on that research.

 Algebra I:  Students began class by completing a warm up problem, before we jumped into practicing solving some multi-step equations with variables on both sides of the equal sign.  Today students were introduced to the concept of identities.  Equations will have one solution, no solution or infinitely many solutions.  Mr. Olsen led students through several examples where they were identifying these identities.  After some teacher led instruction, students were assigned the section 1.3 Practice B worksheet on the Canvas homepage, which is due by Friday in class.

Assignments:   Students can be accessing today's assignment of the section 1.3 Practice B worksheet on our Canvas homepage. This assignment should be submitted on Canvas by class time on Friday.

7th Grade Math: Students began class with a warm up problem, before students talked a bit about what a like fraction is.  Students were then encouraged students to head over to our class Canvas page, and today's assignment on Adding and Subtracting Fractions was there waiting for students.  

Assignments:  Students should be making sure that their Subtracting Like Fractions assignment and their Adding Like Fractions assignments have been uploaded to our class Canvas page by class time on Friday.

Science:  Students spent todays science class period reviewing C.R.A.P. and how to use those Elements of Design when completing a project.  Students then were using their class time to be completing their Characteristics of Life note-taking guide in order to begin building their one page digital poster on Friday in class.

Assignments: Students should have submitted their five new or interesting ideas from the Characteristics of Life video they watched on Canvas.  Students should be coming into class on Friday with their Characteristics of Life note-taking guide completed.

Science:  Hello Science students!  Students spent todays science class period working on  The Place Where I am From poem and digital project. Students were spent some time in Zoom breakout rooms for some peer-editing time, before drawing a picture that they will use as a slide background, which they will overlay with the text of their Place Where I am From poem.  

Assignments: Students should be coming to class on Friday afternoon with their poem completed and a drawing that they can use for the slide they will produce.

Algebra I:  Students spent today's class period learning about class expectations before students began working on the pre-course test.  Students were introduced to the test by Mr. Olsen, and then given about 25 minutes of class time to begin working on the problems.   

Assignments:   Students should be coming to class on Thursday morning with as many of the problems from the pre-test done that they could do without support.  

7th Grade Math: Students spent today's class period learning about class expectations, before we spent some class time completing practice workbook page 1 together in class.

Assignments:  None.

Science:  Hello Science students!  Students spent todays science class period working on our first project of the year, The Place Where I am From poem and video project. Students were introduced to the project during 6th period social studies or their 7th period science class, before being given the remaining class time to complete their poems.  

Assignments: Students should be coming to class on Thursday afternoon with their poem sketched out on paper.

Algebra I:  Students are wrapping up our Algebra class for the school year this week.  After completing the chapter 8 test, students have been working through chapter 9 sections 1; 2; 3 this week.  The official quiz for sections 9.1 - 9.3 is currently live on the Big Ideas website and students are being asked to submit their quiz by 8pm on Friday May 15th.  

Assignments:   Students should be finishing up the chapter 9 sections 9.1 - 9.3 quiz on the Big Ideas website by this Friday evening May 15th.  This is the final assignment of the year for the Taku House algebra students!

7th Grade Math: Students are being asked to log into their school google accounts and then go to the www.myascendmath.com website and begin working through the individualized math plan developed for you after completing the pre-course assessment the site prompted you to take after joining the site and our class on Ascend Math.  Students should be putting about 20-30 minutes of time each day on Ascend Math.  

Assignments:  Students should be spending between 20-30 minutes a day on Ascend Math through Friday May 15th.  

Science:  Hello Science students! All students are expected to complete at least one more module in each of the categories of Science, Social Studies and Toolbox by May 15th.  In total, this makes three (3) modules of each category (Science, Social Studies, and Toolbox) completed by each student in the Taku House before the end of the school year.

Assignments: Students should have completed six modules (two social studies, two science modules, and two toolbox modules) by Friday May 1st.  All students are expected to complete at least one more module in each of the categories of Science, Social Studies and Toolbox by May 15th.

Algebra I:  Students are expected to continue working remotely through chapter 9 by checking out our Algebra Google Classroom for updated section notes and official assignments that will be posted to the Big Ideas website.

So, students please log in to your school accounts, and go to our Taku Algebra Google Classroom page for access to the notes and suggested practice problems before accessing Clever and then navigating to our Taku Algebra class on the Big Ideas website.  Hopefully, you will see the assignments I created waiting for you.  Please have a notebook out in front of you as you work through the problems.  Please continue practicing the habit of showing your work as you complete each problem.  Remember that we preform as we practice, so keep practicing good habits!  

Assignments:   Students should be finishing up chapter 9 section 2 on the Big Ideas website.  The section 9.3 assignment is currently up and live on the Big Ideas site due by Tuesday May 12th.
