7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day. Next, students graded their homework from section 10.6 before they were introduced to finding the volume of prisms and cylinders.  After some teacher led instruction and several example problems, students were assigned the section 10.7 worksheet as homework, due Thursday in class. 

Assignments:  Review homework #26 on Study Island is due by the end of the day on Friday. The section 10.7 worksheet is due Thursday in class.     

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students completed their section 4.7 worksheets before students participated in a chapter 4 review activity, designed to help students prepare for the chapter 4 test, scheduled for Thursday of this week.     

Assignments:  Review HW #20 is due Friday in class. The chapter 4 test will be tomorrow (Thursday) in class.

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students continued talking about and learning about bridge designs.  Today students began working on their bridge blueprints, in order to be sure they will have enough supplies to complete their designs.  

Assignments:  Students should be sketching the truss designs they will use for their Balsa Wood Bridge.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day. Next, students reviewed the pythagorean theorem and how it can be used when calculating the slant height and surface area of pyramids and cones.  Students were introduced to the formulas for calculating these missing values, and after some teacher led instruction and several example problems, students were assigned the section 10.6 worksheet for homework, to be due Wednesday in class.  

Assignments:  Review homework #25 on Study Island is due by the end of the day on Wednesday. The section 10.6 worksheet is due Wednesday in class.     

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students jumped back into chapter 4.  Students began class reviewing the rules for multiplying and dividing powers as well as how to work with negative and zero exponents. Students were then revisited scientific notation, standard form, and product form. After some teacher led instruction and several example problems, students were assigned the front of the 4.7 worksheet (odds only) for class on Wednesday.    

Assignments:  Review HW #19 is due Wednesday in class. The front side of the 4.7 worksheet is due Wednesday in class.                

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students continued talking about and learning about bridge designs.  Today students were introduced to the Balsa Wood Bridge Project.  Students were given the specifications they need to follow in order to complete their bridges by the due date of May 13th.  Students were put into groups and then given some class time to read up on the different types of joints used in bridge construction, in order to help them make an educated decision about the type of joints to be used in their own bridge construction.      

Assignments:  Students should be making decisions about which type of truss to use for their Balsa Wood Bridge.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day. Next, students reviewed the pythagorean theorem and how it works (with right triangles) and we graded the homework from over the weekend. We had a fire drill mid class, thus, we ran out of time as we jumped back into section six on finding the surface area of pyramids and cones.  

Assignments:  Review homework #25 on Study Island is due by the end of the day on Wednesday.     

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students jumped back into chapter 4.  Students began class reviewing the rules for multiplying and dividing powers as well as how to work with negative and zero exponents. Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students continued talking about and learning about bridge designs.  Today we had a guest speaker, Elmer Marx, an engineer with AKDOT, who shared some valuable information concerning what an engineer does and how they design bridges.  Students were assigned some questions to answer from todays presentation, as well as having to sketch at least four more truss designs for class on Tuesday.    

Assignments:  Students should be completing four more truss sketches by Tuesday.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day. Next, students took a quiz to demonstrate their abilities to find the surface area of various prisms and cylinders.  

Assignments:  Students were handed a Pythagorean Theorem worksheet to complete over the three day weekend.    

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students jumped back into chapter 4.  Students began class reviewing the rules for multiplying and dividing powers, before using the rest of the class period to be introduced to working with negative and zero exponents.  After some teacher led instruction and several example problems, students were assigned the section 4.6 worksheet.  It will be due on Monday 4/28.

Assignments:  The section 4.6 worksheet (odds only) is due Monday.                  

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students continued talking about and learning about bridge designs.  Today students were introduced to trusses and how they help dissipate and transfer the load amongst the entire structure.  Students then began sketching truss designs.  Students are expected to have six different trusses sketched for class on Monday.   

Assignments:  Students should be completing their six truss sketches by Monday.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day. Next, students jumped back into chapter 10.  Today students jumped back into surface areas of prisms and cylinders.  Students were introduced to the formulas to calculate the surface area of prisms in general, and reminded of the fact that finding the area of rectangles and triangles have a different process involved. After some teacher led instruction, and a few example problems, students were assigned the section 10.5 worksheet as homework, to be due Wednesday in class. 

Assignments:  Study Island Review Homework #23 is due by the end of the day on Thursday.  The section 10.5 worksheet is due Wednesday in class.  

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students jumped back into chapter 4.  Students began class reviewing the rules for multiplying and dividing powers, before using the rest of the class period to be introduced to working with negative and zero exponents.  Students were introduced to the fact that any number or variable raised to the zero exponent always equals one.  To get rid of negative exponents, put the base and power into a fraction as the denominator.  After several examples, we ran out of time.   

Assignments:  Review homework #18 will be due on Wednesday in class.                

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students celebrated Earth Day by taking apart their groups roller coasters in order to recycle the paper!  

Assignments:  Students should be putting some thought into the types of trusses they will use to help them build their balsa wood bridge.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day. Next, students jumped back into chapter 10.  Today students jumped back into surface areas of prisms and cylinders.  After some teacher led instruction, and a few example problems, students were assigned some homework problems from the text book, p. 541 #1-5 (due Tuesday in class).   

Assignments:  Study Island Review Homework #23 is due by the end of the day on Thursday.  The problems assigned from page 541 #1-5 are due Tuesday in class.  

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students jumped back into chapter 4.  Students began class reviewing the rules for multiplying and dividing powers, before using the rest of the class period to get started on the section 4.5 worksheet (odds only). It will be due Tuesday in class.   

Assignments:  Review homework #18 will be due on Wednesday in class. The section 4.5 worksheet (odds only) is due Tuesday in class.                 

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students were introduced to the next unit on bridges.  As a class we read about the different types of bridges and began talking about the Balsa wood bridge project we are about to begin working on for the next few weeks.   

Assignments:  Students should be putting some thought into the types of trusses they will use to help them build their balsa wood bridge.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day. Next, students jumped back into chapter 10.  Today students were introduced to the surface area of prisms and cylinders.  We actually spent most of class reviewing the area and circumference of circles, before moving forward to surface area.  Students can expect a quiz on the first four sections of chapter 10 Friday in class.   

Assignments:  Study Island Review Homework #22 is due by the end of the day on Friday.   

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students jumped back into chapter 4.  Students began class reviewing the rules for multiplying powers, before we began discussing how to divide powers.  After some teacher led instruction and several examples problems we completed together, we ran out of class time.  Students can expect a quiz on factors and multiples Friday in class.  

Assignments:  Review homework #17 will be due on Friday in class.                

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students got back into their roller coaster groups and completed calculating the average speed of a rolling marble down their roller coaster track. Students used the data for the track length and average times of the marble passing each specified point on their roller coasters to complete the activity and answer several questions.  

Assignments:  Students should be completing the Calculating the Average Speed of a Rolling Marble worksheet if they did not complete it in the class time allotted.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day. Next, students jumped back into chapter 10.  Today students were introduced (or reviewed!) how to find the circumference and area of circles.  Students learned about the formulas for finding the circumference, diameter, and radius of a given circle, as well as how to calculate the area of a circle.  After some teacher led instruction and several example problems, students were assigned the 10.4 worksheet for homework, to be due Thursday in class.    

Assignments:  Study Island Review Homework #22 is due by the end of the day on Friday. The section 10.4 worksheet is due Thursday in class.    

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students jumped back into chapter 4.  Students began class reviewing the two methods for finding a LCM, before students were introduced to multiplying and dividing powers.  Students completed a table helping them understand the rule for multiplying or dividing powers with the same base, before we ran out of class time.    

Assignments:  Review homework #17 will be due on Friday in class.                

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students got back into their roller coaster groups and began calculating the average speed of a rolling marble down their roller coaster track. Students began class by estimating their total length of track on their coasters, before using a piece of string to accurately measure the distance of four separate points along the track length in order to time a marble as it hits each point along the track.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day. Next, students jumped back into chapter 10 and finding the area of parallelograms and trapezoids. Students reviewed the formulas for solving for the area of each shape, before we practiced several examples of each type of problem.  Students were then assigned the section 10.3 worksheet as homework.  

Assignments:  Study Island Review Homework #21 is due by the end of the day on Wednesday. The section 10.3 worksheet is due Wednesday in class.    

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students jumped back into chapter 4.  Students began class reviewing the two methods for finding a LCM, before students were given the class period to complete the section 4.4 worksheet.  The section 4.4 worksheet will be due Thursday in class.   

Assignments:  Review homework #16 will be due on Wednesday in class.                

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students jumped back into the text book.  Today we read section 5.1 on Kinetic and potential energy.  Students defined several different forms of energy, and we had a class discussion about how and when these different types of energy come into play.  Students were assigned the section 5.1 worksheet as homework.

Assignments:  Students were assigned the section 5.1 worksheet on the Nature of Energy, to be due on Wednesday in class.

Next, students participated in an SBA jeopardy review activity.  Students will be taking the SBAs on Tuesday thru Thursday of this week. The math SBA is scheduled for Thursday of this week, and students will meet for math again on Friday.

Assignments:  Study Island Review Homework #21 is due by the end of the day on Friday.   

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students jumped back into chapter 4.  Students began class reviewing the two methods for finding a GCF, as well as finding equivalent fractions.  Students spent the rest of class learning about and discussing the differences between factors and multiples.    

Assignments:  Review homework #15 will be due on Friday in class.                

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students got back into their roller coaster groups, and then they were handed the scoring breakdown and rubric for the Great Paper Roller Coaster Challenge.  Students were then given the rest of class to brainstorm and to begin putting their ideas into practice on their own roller coasters.  

Assignments:  The last day for working on the group roller coasters is Friday of this week. All roller coasters should be completed by 3pm on Friday the 11th.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day. Next, students jumped back into chapter 10 and solving problems involving triangles.  Students reviewed how to solve for one or two missing angle measures, before we began learning about how to find a missing side length.  Students then began finding angle measures using ratios.  After some teacher led instruction and several example problems, students were assigned the section 10.1 worksheet as homework, to be due Friday in class.  

Assignments:  Study Island Review Homework #20 is due by the end of the day on Friday. The section 10.1 worksheet is due Friday in class.    

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students jumped back into chapter 4.  Students began class reviewing the two methods for finding a GCF, before they were introduced to equivalent fractions and putting fractions into simplest form.  Students defined some key vocabulary, before they began practicing how to find equivalent fractions.  

Assignments:  Review homework #14 will be due on Friday in class.                

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students got back into their roller coaster groups, and began building the tracks and the loops for their roller coasters.  

Assignments:  Students were asked to read two articles about the forces at work during a roller coaster ride.  Students should also be working on their individual blueprints of what they envision their groups roller coaster will look like, including a theme.

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students got back into their roller coaster groups, and continued building the basic structure of the roller coaster. This included putting the final touches on that basic structure.

Assignments:  Students were asked to read two articles about the forces at work during a roller coaster ride.  Students should also be working on their individual blueprints of what they envision their groups roller coaster will look like, including a theme.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day. Next, students jumped ahead into chapter 10 for an introduction to geometry.  Today students were introduced to solving problems involving triangles.  Students learned about the different ways of classifying triangles, either by their angle measures or by their side lengths, as well as how to find a missing angle measure.  After some teacher led instruction and a few example problems, students were assigned some problems from the text book, page 513 #1-13, to be due Thursday in class. 

Students will not have math on Wednesday of this week as 8th graders will be taking the Science SBA.   

Assignments:  Study Island Review Homework #20 is due by the end of the day on Friday. Problems from the text, p. 513 #1-13 are due Thursday.    

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students jumped back into chapter 4 section two.  Students learned how to factor monomials as well as how to find the GCF of two or more monomials.  After some teacher led instruction and several example problems, students were assigned the 4.2 worksheet (odds only) as homework to be due Thursday in class.

Students will not have math on Wednesday of this week as 8th graders will be taking the Science SBA. 

Assignments:  Review homework #14 will be due on Friday in class. The section 4.2 worksheet (odds only) will be due Thursday in class.               

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students got back into their roller coaster groups, and continued building the basic structure of the roller coaster. This included attaching the columns, diagonals and beams to their roller coasters. 

8th graders will be taking the Science SBA on Wednesday morning of this week.
