8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students participated in the AMP it up activity here at DHMS, where our school was beta-testing the new AMP test for the district's new testing program.  Once we finished up with that activity, students were given the remaining 20 minutes of class time to begin reviewing for the chapter 3 test scheduled for Monday.  

Assignments:  Review Homework #30 is due Friday in class.  The chapter test from page 158 (#1-26) or the extra practice from page 805 (#1-59 odds) is due Friday in class.  

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students engaged in a group discussion of appropriate data displays and misleading data displays as part of the review process for the chapter 3 test scheduled for Friday of this week.  

Assignments:   Review Homework #30 is due Friday in class. The chapter 3 test on graphs and data displays is tomorrow (Friday).  

Science: Students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students got into their Local Ecology Groups and we went outside to our one meter square plots to collect our monthly data for the LEP project.  
  
Assignments:  Students can expect the chapter 2 test on Photosynthesis, Respiration, Cell Division (Mitosis) and Cancer, on Tuesday February 3rd.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students were re-introduced to solving multi-step inequalities using addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.  After several examples that we worked through together, students were asked to complete the 3.6 worksheet (odds if necessary) where they will have to solve multi-step inequalities and then graph their solutions on a number line.

Assignments:  Review Homework #29 is due Wednesday in class.  The section 3.6 Practice B worksheet is due Wednesday in class.  

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students continued talking about histograms.  We reviewed stem and leaf plots and box and whisker plots and then compared the two data displays methods and talked about the differences between the two.  We then reviewed the important vocabulary associated with histograms, before working through an example together as a class.  Students were then assigned the section 3.5 worksheet, to be due Wednesday in class.

Science: Students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students continued working with the cell division process called mitosis.  We reviewed the three stages of the cell division process as well as the four phases of mitosis.  Students were then given the rest of the class period to complete their Mitosis flipbooks.  The final draft was due at the end of class on Tuesday.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students were re-introduced to solving inequalities using addition and subtraction.  Students had some troubles making it through our homework on Wednesday evening, so today in class we reviewed the process of solving equations, before relating the process to solving inequalities.  After several examples that we worked through together, students were handed a worksheet where they will have to solve inequalities and then graph their solutions on a number line.

Assignments:  Review Homework #28 is due Friday in class.  The section 3.4 Practice A worksheet (evens) is due Friday in class.  

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students were introduced to box and whisker plots.  We reviewed stem and leaf plots and then compared the two data displays methods and talked about the differences between the two.  We then covered the important vocabulary associated with box and whisker plots, before working through an example together as a class.  Students were then assigned two problems from the book on page 135, #7 and #9, to be due Friday in class.

Science: Students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students were introduced to the cell division process called mitosis.  We reviewed the three stages of the cell division process as well as the four phases of mitosis.  Students were then introduced to the next activity, making a mitosis flipbook.  After instructions were given and any questions answered, students were given the final 15 minutes of class to get started on their rough drafts.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students were re-introduced to solving inequalities using addition and subtraction.  The same process of solving equations with equal signs still apply to solving inequalities.  Students worked with graphing simple inequalities using open or closed circles on a number line.  Students then went through several examples with Mr. Olsen, before they were assigned the section 3.4 worksheet (odds) for homework.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students were introduced to stem and leaf plots.  After reviewing the rules of how to create a stem and leaf plot, we went through a few examples as a class, before students were assigned the section 3.3 worksheet as homework, to be due Thursday in class.

Science: Students participated in a cross curriculum project based on the Roman Empire, where students were introduced to mosaics, and then given time to get into groups of 4 to 5 students and build their own mosaic based on a type of lifestyle choice their group chose.  Students will be rotating over to the Campbell/Sheufelt team to learn another aspect of the Roman Empire on Thursday.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students were introduced to solving inequalities using addition and subtraction.  The same process of solving equations with equal signs still apply to solving inequalities.  Students worked with graphing simple inequalities using open or closed circles on a number line.  Students were then handed a packet of work to complete throughout the week, as the Taku House will be MAPs testing on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of this week.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students were introduced to stem and leaf plots.  After reviewing the rules of bar and double bar graphs and line graphs, we began working with how to interpret stem and leaf plots.  Students worked together as we built unordered and then ordered stem and leaf plots using the data sets given.  Students were then handed a packet of work to complete throughout the week, as the Taku House will be MAPs testing on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of this week.

Science: Students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students were introduced to their next project/activity for the week.  Students will be writing an explanatory essay, comparing and contrasting the processes of photosynthesis and cellular respiration.  Students will be responsible for writing a four paragraph essay detailing how these processes are similar and different.  This assignment will be due at the end of class on Friday January 16th.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students continued working with equations with variables on both sides of the equal sign.  Students were given class time to ask questions and continue practicing solving multiple different equations and various scenarios to be better prepared for the quiz on solving equations on Friday in class.   

Assignments:  Review Homework #27 is due Friday in class.  Students can expect a quiz on Friday in class. 

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students were introduced to stem and leaf plots.  After reviewing the rules of bar and double bar graphs and line graphs, we began working with how to interpret stem and leaf plots.  Students can expect a quiz on mean, median, mode and range and bar and line graphs on Friday in class.    

Assignments:  Review Homework #27 is due Friday in class.  

Science: Students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students participated in a vocabulary matching activity with a partner, before they were introduced to the next activity, where students will be illustrating the processes of photosynthesis and respiration and how they are related on a colored diagram.  These diagrams will be due at the end of class on Friday.  

Assignments:  The illustrated diagrams of the Photosynthesis and Respiration processes will be due at the end of class on Friday.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students were introduced to solving equations with variables on both sides of the equal sign.  After reviewing the important rules for working with both positive and negative integers, Mr. Olsen led students through several example problems.  Students were then assigned the section 3.3 worksheet and given about 25 minutes of class time to get started on the work.  

Assignments:  Review Homework #27 is due Friday in class.  Students were assigned the section 3.3 worksheet (odds only) to be due Thursday in class.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students were introduced to bar graphs and line graphs.  We spent some time in class interpreting and developing a bar graph with the information given to the students by Mr. Olsen.  Students reviewed bar graphs and then spent some time working with line graphs and double bar graphs.  Students were assigned the section 3.2 worksheet, and given about 20 minutes of class time to get started.    

Assignments:  Review Homework #27 is due Friday in class.  Students were assigned the section 3.2 worksheet on bar and line graphs, to be due Thursday in class. 

Science: Students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students began learning about respiration.  Students reviewed the process of photosynthesis, as well as the chemical equation for photosynthesis, before we read section 2.2 on Respiration.  Students engaged in some class discussions on the relationship between the processes of photosynthesis and respiration, before they were assigned the section 2.2 worksheet, to be due Thursday in class.

Assignments:  The section 2.2 worksheet on Respiration is due Thursday in class if students did not complete it in the class time provided.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students were introduced to bar graphs and line graphs.  We spent some time in class interpreting and developing a bar graph with the information given to the students by Mr. Olsen.  Students reviewed bar graphs and then spent some time working with line graphs and double bar graphs.  Students were assigned two problems from the text book, p.120 #8,10 to be due Wednesday in class.

Science: Students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students began learning about photosynthesis.  Students began class by reviewing the organelles we learned about last semester, before students defined six new vocabulary words.  Students were then given the opportunity to look at plant stomata's under a microscope.   Next, we finished up reading the section on Photosynthesis.  Students completed the section 2.1 worksheet in class.  

Assignments:  The section 2.1 worksheet on Photosynthesis is due Wednesday in class if students did not complete it in the class time provided.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students spent the class period reviewing and practicing simplifying expressions, combining like terms, and solving equations.   

Assignments:  Review Homework #26 is due Wednesday in class.  Students were also asked to complete a worksheet that includes six two-step equations for class on Tuesday.
