Algebra I:  Students began math class with the Do Now and the Problem of the Day.  Next, students jumped onto chapter 5 and working with systems of equations.  Our schedule will be tight for chapter 5 and students will be responsible for completing two sections a day this week as we prepare for the chapter 5 test this Friday (December 13).  Students continued working on solving systems through substitution, and then began solving systems by using the elimination method.  Students were also introduced to determining if a given system has not solution, many solutions or just one solution.  After some teacher led instruction and a few examples, students have been assigned homework from the text book.

7th Grade Math: Students began math class with the Do Now and a problem of the day.  Next, students were continuing to work with simplifying expressions by identifying the terms of an expression before combining like terms and using the distributive property before simplifying.  Today, students continued learning how solve equations using inverse operations.  After some teacher led instruction and several examples, students ended class by completing a solving one step equations worksheet in class.
 
Assignments:  Review Homework #24 is due Wednesday in class.

Science: Day 2!  The Taku House was introduced to a house wide project on Tlingit Culture compared to another culture that lives in another type of biome around the world.  Mr. Sheufelt's class was mixed with Mr. Olsen's class and those groups were assigned a different biome to compare to the Tlingit culture.  Groups will be creating scale models of longhouses and other dwellings as well as producing a tri-fold poster of the research each group will be conducting over the next several days.

7th Grade Math: Students began math class with the Do Now and a problem of the day.  Next, students were continuing to work with simplifying expressions by identifying the terms of an expression before combining like terms and using the distributive property before simplifying.  Today, students were learning how to find greatest common factors of linear expressions.  After some teacher led instruction and several examples, students ended class by completing a factoring expressions worksheet.

Science:  Students began class by connecting with their partner from the Periods of Earth research project we completed last week.  Student groups then completed the process of presenting their group research to their class mates.  

Mr. Sheufelt's home base science class is taking a field trip to the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center tomorrow.  Mr. Olsen's class is scheduled for Thursday.  Students were reminded to bring a lunch and to wear warm clothes and proper footwear to explore outside at the glacier for about an hour before we head inside the visitor center to participate in a program put on by the visitor center rangers.

Algebra I:  Students began math class with the Do Now and the Problem of the Day.  Next, students jumped back into chapter 4.  Today students reviewed correlation and causation before we jumped into section 6 on arithmetic sequences.  Students were introduced to arithmetic sequences and how to identify the patterns involved, before learning the equation for an arithmetic sequence.  After some teacher led instruction and several examples, students were assigned the explorations in the practice workbook, pages 214-215 # 1; 2; 3-25 odds; 16; 26; 38 to be due on Tuesday in class.

Students ended class by completing a factor tree worksheet in the last 20 minutes of class time.

After some teacher led instruction and a few examples, students completed a in-class worksheet on adding and subtracting linear expressions.

Science:  Students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students were introduced to the idea of mindfulness and how to begin to control their brains through meditation and/or finding strategies to help them cope with anxiety that may come with public speaking.  Student groups will be sharing their Periods of the Earth research beginning next Monday in class, so today's class period was dedicated to help students find ways to feel comfortable when public speaking.

Algebra I:  Students began math class with the Do Now and the Problem of the Day.  Today students got their graded chapter 3 tests back and were given opportunities to ask clarifying questions.  Next, students began learning about how to transform absolute value functions.  After a lot of teacher led instruction and several example problems, students were assigned some homework from the practice workbook, page 94, to be due on Wednesday in class.

Today, students were working on completing workbook page 43 in class.  Students were filling in tables in which they were substituting values in for the variable and writing the outcome into the table.
