8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the Do Now.  Some students then continued to progress through the levels of their assigned Flashmasters, while others, who have tested out of Flashmasters began class with the POD.  Students then continued working with solving equations with variables on both sides of the equal sign.  Students were reminded of some key vocabulary, before students were led through several examples of how to work through different equations.  After some teacher led instruction, students were assigned several problems on a worksheet (odds only) to be due Monday October 5th in class.

Assignments:  The worksheet on solving equations with variables on both sides of the equal sign (odds Only) will be due on Monday Oct. 5th in class.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the Do Now.  Students then were given the remaining time in class to complete their chapter 1 tests.  

Assignments:  Students were handed a "What does it say?" worksheet to be due Monday October 5th in class.

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Students were then given the remaining class time to continue planning and ultimately finalize their groups investigation in order to conduct the experiment or systematic observation on Monday in class.   Groups are expected to have their investigations (either an systematic observation or an experiment) by the end of class on Wednesday of this week in order to conduct these investigations next Monday in class.

Assignments:  Students should be bringing in any materials they may need to preform their groups experiment or systematic observation in class on Monday October 5th.

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the Do Now.  Some students then continued to progress through the levels of their assigned Flashmasters, while others, who have tested out of Flashmasters began class with the POD.  Students then completed the quizzes we began on Friday in class and graded them.  

Assignments:  Review Homework #10 is due on Wednesday in class. 

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the Do Now.  Students then were given about 10 minutes of class time to complete their quizzes from Friday, before we graded them.  Students were then given the remaining time in class to continue reviewing for the chapter 1 test, scheduled for Tuesday in class.

Assignments:  Review Homework #10 is due on Wednesday in class.  Students can expect the chapter 1 test on Tuesday in class.

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Students were then divided into partners/groups in order to begin planning "My Dry ICE Investigations."  Students are in the process of developing an investigable question based on a topic that both them and their partner are interested in concerning dry ice.  Groups are expected to have their investigations (either an systematic observation or an experiment) by the end of class on Wednesday of this week in order to conduct these investigations next Monday in class.

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the Do Now.  Students then continued to progress through the levels of their assigned Flashmasters.  Students continued working with multi-step equations.  Today, students reviewed the distributive property and how to use that property when solving a multi-step equation.  We practiced several examples in class together as a group, before we ran out of class time.  Students can expect a quiz on Friday on solving one, two and multi-step equations.

Assignments:  Review Homework #9 is due on Friday in class. 

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the Do Now.  Students then were continued using formulas and how to rearrange the formula in order to solve for or find a missing piece of the puzzle.  After a bit of teacher led instruction, students were set free to complete the assignment from the textbook, page 30 #1, 3, 5, 6, 8, 12, 13 & page 31 # 15, 18, 20, 21 to be due Friday in class.

Assignments:  Review Homework #9 is due on Friday in class.  The assignment from the textbook, page 30 #1, 3, 5, 6, 8, 12, 13 & page 31 # 15, 18, 20, 21 are due Friday in class.

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Students then continued with our conversation we started on Wednesday in class on how to identify an investigable question as well as how to decide if that question is a systematic observation or an experiment.  Students should be coming to class on Friday with a list of questions about dry ice separated into individual lists about whether they are observational activities or experiments.

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the Do Now.  Students then continued to progress through the levels of their assigned Flashmasters.  Students continued working with multi-step equations.  After some teacher led instruction on how to set up and solve equations involving the interior angles of triangles, students were assigned page 7 of their practice workbooks and given about 15 minutes of class time to get started.  Page 7 will be due Thursday morning.


Assignments:  Review Homework #9 is due on Friday in class.  Page 7 of students practice workbooks will be due Thursday in class.


7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the Do Now.  Students then continued using area and perimeter formulas and how to rearrange the formula in order to solve for or find a missing piece of the puzzle.  After we reviewed and graded last nights homework, students were assigned page 18 in their practice workbooks, which will be due on Thursday in class.

Assignments:  Review Homework #9 is due on Friday in class.  The assignment from the practice workbooks, page 18, is due Thursday in class.


Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Students then were introduced to several key vocabulary words, which will be needed as we move towards students asking key questions, developing procedures, and implementing an experiment or systematic observation in order to answer their questions about dry ice.  Students also began identifying whether or not a list of questions are investigable or not investigable.  That list will need to be sorted by class time on Thursday.   

Assignments:  Students should be sorting the questions from class on Wednesday into categories for class on Thursday.

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the Do Now.  Students then continued to progress through the levels of their assigned Flashmasters.  Students continued working with multi-step equations.  After some teacher led instruction and a few examples, students were assigned a two step equations worksheet, and given about 20 minutes of class time to begin working on it.  The worksheet will be due on Wednesday in class.

Assignments:  Review Homework #8 is due on Wednesday in class.  The two step equations worksheet is due Wednesday in class.

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Students were then introduced to the Mystery of the Floating Bubbles.  After spending the past few weeks working with and observing the phenomena of dry ice sublimating in action, today students watched a demonstration in class, and were asked to explain the "how's and why's" of what they were observing.

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the Do Now.  Students then continued to progress through the levels of their assigned Flashmasters.  Students continued working with multi-step equations.  After some teacher led instruction and a few examples, students were assigned some problems out of their textbooks, page 14 # 1-14, to be due Tuesday in class.

Assignments:  Review Homework #8 is due on Wednesday in class.  The problems from the text book, page 14 #1-14 are due Tuesday in class.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the Do Now.  Students then were given class time to continue working with solving multi-step equations.  After a few examples in class, students were given class time to begin working on the assignment from the text book, Page 23 # 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 11, 13, 14, 16, 17 and Page 24 # 18 - 28 evens & # 31 to be due Tuesday in class.

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Students then participated in a lab where they built on a lab from Friday's class.  Today students were comparing hot and cold water and the rate of sublimation of the dry ice in a timed setting.  Students worked in table groups to complete the lab, and each student should be completing their own lab report (drawing conclusions and reflecting on the results they observed during the activity).  This lab report will be due on Tuesday in class.

Assignments:  Today's lab report will be due on Tuesday in class.

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the Do Now.  Students then continued to progress through the levels of their assigned Flashmasters.  Students continued working with two step equations.  After some teacher led instruction, and several examples of solving equations using addition or subtraction and multiplication or division, students were asked to complete the section 3.1 worksheet be due on Friday in class.  Students can expect a quiz on Friday covering one and two step equations.

Assignments:  Review Homework #7 is due on Friday in class.  The section 3.1 worksheet on solving two step equations is due Friday in class.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the Do Now.  Students then graded the homework from Tuesday evening, before we started solving equations with variables on both sides of the equal sign.  After some teacher led instruction, and a few example problems, students were given class time to work with a partner and complete Activity 1 on page 11 and 12 in their practice workbooks.  The homework is page 14, also in their practice workbooks, to be due Friday in class.

Assignments:  Review Homework #7 is due on Friday in class.  Page 14 from the practice workbook is due Friday in class.

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Students then participated in a class discussion on safety in a lab setting.  Class was cut short this afternoon, as our school and all students participated in a Kindness Assembly.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the Do Now.  Students then graded the homework from Tuesday evening, before we started solving equations with variables on both sides of the equal sign.  After some teacher led instruction, and a few example problems, students were assigned 5 problems that will be due on Thursday in class.

Assignments:  Review Homework #7 is due on Friday in class.  The five problems assigned in class will be due on Thursday in class.

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Students were then introduced to variables within a science experiment, as well as systematic observations.  We had a class discussion about the different variables embedded in the different explorations we participated in the past few days in class, and related it to how scientists use and manipulate variables in controlled settings.

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the Do Now.  Students then continued to progress through the levels of their assigned Flashmasters.  We then continued reviewing how to solve one step equations.  After some teacher led instruction, and several examples of solving equations using addition or subtraction and multiplication or division, students were asked to complete the one step equations worksheet we began on Monday in class.  The entire worksheet is due on Wednesday in class. 

Assignments:  Review Homework #6 is due on Wednesday in class.  The front side of the solving one step equations using multiplication or division worksheet (ALL) and the back side (section 2.7 WS on decimal operations, odds only) is due on Wednesday in class.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the Do Now.  Students then continued reviewing and identifying terms of expressions before simplifying the expressions and solving one step equations using addition and/or subtraction.  Next, students continued reviewing how to solve two step equations.  After some teacher led instruction, and several example problems, students were handed a two step equations worksheet and given about 25 minutes of class to begin working on it.  The worksheet will be due on Wednesday in class.

Assignments:  Review Homework #6 is due on Wednesday in class.  The two step equations worksheet assigned on Tuesday will be due on Wednesday in class. 

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Students shared and reviewed the different observations and questions we came up with concerning both wet and dry ice.  Students then continued exploring dry ice through several different experiments set up in class.  Today students finalized the explorations with dry ice.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the Do Now.  Students then continued reviewing and identifying terms of expressions before simplifying the expressions.  After some teacher led instruction, students completed a simplifying expressions worksheet in class, and then were handed a solving one step equations worksheet to be due Thursday in class.

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Students were then reminded of the rules of a lab, before we continued working with our observation skills and students participated in an activity where they observed two different substances and listed some similarities and differences between wet ice and dry ice.  For the next portion of the activity, students predicted or hypothesized what would happen when we added energy (heat) to both substances, and students observed and wrote about what they saw.

Class was interrupted by school pictures today.  We won't meet as a math class again until Wednesday Sept. 9th, as the Taku House will be MAPs testing on Thursday, Friday and Tuesday.   

Assignments:  Review Homework #4 is due on Wednesday September 9th in class.  Students were also handed a packet of work to complete by Wednesday Sept. 9th as well.
