7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day, before students were introduced to section 4.3 on equivalent fractions.  We practiced developing equivalent fractions, and putting fractions into simplest form.  We also practiced factoring monomials.   

Assignments:   Completing the Pre-Test on Study Island is due by the end of the day on Friday.   The section 4.3 worksheet is due on Friday in class.  Students can also expect a quiz in class on Friday covering the first three sections of chapter 4.    

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students who completed their homework participated in a decimal jeopardy review activity.  Students who did NOT complete their homework, went to the library to have a quiet place to focus and complete their work.   

Assignments:   Review Homework #22 is due Friday.  The chapter 2 test will be on Monday December 3rd.   

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Students continued memorizing their vocabulary words they will be quizzed on next Monday. 

Assignments:  Students should be memorizing their vocabulary words.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day, before students were introduced to a new supplemental website called Study Island.  We are going to stop handing out paper review homeworks, and students will now be expected to log into the website with their newly issued logins and passwords, and complete assignments that Mr. Olsen adds to the Olsen 7th Pre-Algebra class page.  Today students completed, or at least began, the Pre-Test assignment, which will be due by the end of the day on Friday.  

Assignments:   Completing the Pre-Test on Study Island is due by the end of the day on Friday.    

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, we jumped back into chapter 2.  Today we spent time reviewing the rules associated with adding, subtracting and multiplying and dividing decimals.  Students also reviewed solving equations and the rules for signs, before the 2.7 worksheet was assigned for homework.  Students were given about 20 minutes of class time to begin the assignment.   

Assignments:   Review Homework #22 is due Friday.  The 2.7 worksheet is due Thursday in class.  

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Students began making flashcards to begin memorizing the 33 vocab words that they will be tested on next Monday.  

Assignments:  Students should be completing their flashcards if they did not complete the work in the class time provided.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day, before we jumped back into chapter 4.  Today students continued to learn about finding the Greatest Common Factor of two or more nonzero whole numbers.       Students were introduced to some key vocabulary, including relatively prime, and we practiced finding the GCF of several sets of integers.  Students were then assigned the 4.2 worksheet for homework.  

Assignments:   Review Homework #18 is due Wednesday.   The section 4.2 worksheet is due on Wednesday morning.   

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, we jumped back into chapter 2.  Today we spent time reviewing the rules associated with adding, subtracting and multiplying decimals.  Students practiced multiplying decimals and applying the rule for the number of digits behind the decimal point in their product.  We also reviewed the rules associated with dividing decimals and practiced multiplying and dividing several examples.  

Assignments:   Review Homework #21 is due Wednesday.    

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Students then completed a worksheet where they defined 33 scientific words, using a dictionary if necessary.  If students completed the worksheet, they were instructed to begin making flashcards to help them memorize all of the words for an upcoming quiz.    

Assignments:  Students should be completing the Science Vocabulary worksheet if they did not complete the work in the class time provided.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day, before we jumped back into chapter 4.  Today students were introduced to finding the Greatest Common Factor of two or more nonzero whole numbers.   

Assignments:   Review Homework #18 is due Wednesday.  Students can also be working on their chapter 3 test corrections that are due on Tuesday morning in class.     

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, we jumped back into chapter 2.  Today we spent time reviewing the rules associated with adding, subtracting and multiplying decimals.  Students practiced lining up the decimals for adding or subtracting decimals, and we ended class working on multiplying decimals.

Assignments:   Review Homework #21 is due Wednesday.    

Science:  Today in science, students reflected on their individual work within the bubble gum challenge project that ended before Thanksgiving break.  We then began learning about scientific root words, and prefixes and suffixes and how they can change the meaning of the root word.    

Assignments:  Students should be completing the Science Vocabulary Notetaking Guide if they did not complete the work in the class time provided.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day, before we jumped into chapter 4.  Today students were introduced to prime factorization.  Students defined the key vocabulary and practiced making factor trees, as well as factoring monomials.  Students were assigned the 4.1 worksheet for homework.  

Assignments:   The section 4.1 worksheet is due Friday morning in class.    

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, we jumped back into section 6 of chapter 2 on solving equations using division and multiplication.  Students reviewed the division property of equality, before the multiplication property of equality was introduced.  Students took notes on the multiplication property, and we practiced several examples before the 2.6 worksheet was assigned as homework, and students were given about 20 minutes of class time to begin working on the assignment.  

Assignments:   Review Homework #20 is due Friday.  The section 2.6 worksheet is due on Friday morning in class.   

Science:  Today in science, students took a quiz on the scientific method, and then they were given an hour and a half of class time to work on their social studies projects.  Students can expect to go outside for science on Friday.    

Assignments:  Students can be prepared to go outside to their Local Ecology Project plots on Friday of this week.

Assignments:   Students were handed an assignment and asked to produce a turkey day menu plan due Thursday in class.  

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, we jumped back into section 6 of chapter 2 on solving equations using division and multiplication.  Students took notes on the properties of equality and we practiced several examples both as a group and individually, before we ran out of class time.  

Assignments:   Review Homework #20 is due Friday.  

Science:  Today in science, student groups presented their projects to their classmates.    

Assignments:  Students can be prepared to go outside to their Local Ecology Project plots on Friday of this week.

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, we jumped back into section 5 of chapter 2 on solving equations using addition or subtraction.  Students took notes on the properties of equality and we practiced several examples both as a group and individually, before students were assigned the 2.5 worksheet as homework.  Students were given about 20 minutes of class time to get started on the assignment.  

Assignments:   Review Homework #19 is due Wednesday.  The section 2.5 worksheet is due on Wednesday in class.  

Science:  Today in science, student groups began presenting their projects to their classmates.    

Assignments:  Students can be practicing their presentations if they did not present today in class.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day, before students participated in a review activity to prepare themselves for the scheduled chapter 3 test on Tuesday.  

Assignments:   Review Homework #17 is due Wednesday.  The chapter 3 test will be Tuesday morning.  

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, we graded the quizzes we took on Friday, before we moved into section five of chapter 2.  Students were introduced to the key concepts of solving equations by using addition or subtraction.  Mr. Olsen led students through several example problems before we ran out of class time.  

Assignments:   Review Homework #19 is due Wednesday.     

Science:  Today in science, students finalized their group's bubble gum lab posters that were due at the end of class today.   

Assignments:  Students can be practicing their presentations that they will be giving on Tuesday in class.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day, before jumping back into chapter 3.  Today students began working with solving multi-step inequalities.   We reviewed the key vocabulary and the properties of inequality, before trying several example problems where students demonstrated their understanding of the concepts.  Students were then assigned the 3.6 worksheet for homework.  The chapter 3 test will be on Tuesday of next week.  

Assignments:   Review Homework #16 is due Friday.  The section 3.6 worksheet is due Friday.  Students can expect their weekly quiz in class on Friday.  Students were also given a Real-World Problem Solving assignment about Vitamin A which will be due on Monday morning in class.  

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, we moved into section four of chapter 2.  Students reviewed the key vocabulary and continued practicing writing verbal sentences as equations.  Students were then assigned the 2.4 worksheet as homework, and given about 25 minutes of class time to work on the assignment.  

Assignments:   Review Homework #18 is due Friday.   The 2.4 worksheet is due in class on Friday.  Students can expect their weekly quiz in class on Friday.  

Science:  Today in science, students continued working with their partner for the Bubble Gum Challenge activity.  Today groups spent the class period in the computer lab typing up their lab reports, and beginning to put together the pieces for their groups final presentation.  The final presentation will be due on Monday November 12th.  

Assignments:  Students should be continuing to put together their gum lab final posters.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day, before jumping back into chapter 3.  Today students continued working with solving inequalities using addition and subtraction.  We reviewed the key vocabulary and the properties of equality, before trying several example problems where students demonstrated their understanding of the concepts.  Students were then assigned the 3.4 worksheet for homework, and given about 15 minutes of class time to start the assignment.  

Assignments:   Review Homework #15 is due Wednesday.  The section 3.4 worksheet is due Wednesday.  Students were also given a Real-World Problem Solving assignment about Vitamin A which will be due on Friday morning in class.  

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, we moved into section three of chapter 2.  Students continued working with simplifying variable expressions today in class.  We reviewed the the key concepts of terms, like terms, coefficients and constants, and practiced several example problems, before the students were given a simplifying expressions worksheet to complete in class, and the section 2.3 worksheet is due in class on Wednesday.  

Assignments:   Review Homework #15 is due Wednesday.   The section 2.3 worksheet is due Wednesday.  

Science:  Today in science, students continued working with their partner for the Bubble Gum Challenge activity.  Today groups spent the class period drawing some conclusions about their gum experiments, and organizing their work in preparation for computer lab time tomorrow.  Students will be expected to type their lab reports up and put together a final poster presentation to share with their classmates.  The final presentation will be due on Monday November 12th.  

Assignments:  Students should be continuing draw some conclusions from their gum lab experiments.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day, before jumping back into chapter 3.  Today students were introduced to solving inequalities using addition or subtraction.  Mr. Olsen led students through some notes and key vocabulary, and several example problems before we ran out of class time.  

Assignments:   Review Homework #15 is due Wednesday.

Science:  Today in science, students continued working with their partner for the Bubble Gum Challenge activity.  Today groups had their individual packets checked off my Mr. Olsen, before they started analyzing the data given to them by another group in the room who conducted their gum experiment.  Groups should be approaching the drawing conclusions step of the scientific method.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day, before jumping back into chapter 3.  Today students continued working with equations with variables on both sides of the equal sign.  We reviewed two-step equations, and solving equations involving like terms and parentheses before applying all of those skills with variables on both sides of the equal sign.  After some teacher led instruction and several examples problems, students were assigned the 3.3 worksheet for homework and given about 20 minutes fo class time to complete the assignment.  

Assignments:   The section 3.3 worksheet is due Friday morning in class.  Students can also expect a quiz on the first three section of chapter 3 on Friday morning.    

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, we jumped back into section two of chapter two.   Students reviewed the distributive property as a group, before Mr. Olsen handed out a distributive property worksheet for students to continue developing their skills at solving these types of problems.  

Assignments:   Review Homework #16 is due Friday.   The distributive property worksheet is due in class on Friday.  Students can also expect a quiz on the first two sections of chapter 2 on Friday.  

Science:  Today in science, students worked with their partner for the Bubble Gum Challenge activity.  Student groups exchanged their procedures and materials lists with another group in class today, and they began attempting to conduct a new and different experiment in class.  Students will complete the new experiments by the end of class on Friday.  

Assignments:  Students should be continuing to type up and prepare their Gum Lab Write-Up forms for their upcoming final project.
