7th Grade Math:  Today in 7th grade pre-algebra, students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students took the MAPs Math test.  

Assignments:   Students should be spending at least 15 minutes on Study Island by Wednesday.  

8th Grade Math:  Today in 8th grade pre-algebra, students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students took the MAPs Math test.    

Assignments:   Students should be spending at least 15 minutes on Study Island by Wednesday.      

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students participated in a classifying activity, where students worked in groups and classified their shoes within their groups.  Students found similarities amongst their groups shoes, and proceeded to classify them into smaller and smaller subgroups, until each shoe had its own category.         

Assignments:   Students should be completing the Classifying Organisms worksheet for class on Wednesday.

7th Grade Math:  Today in 7th grade pre-algebra, students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students were introduced to isometrics.  Students took some notes on the difference between olibque and isometric perspectives, and began practicing drawing these different perspectives on regular paper as well as isometric dot paper.  

Assignments:   Students will be taking the MAPs Math test on Tuesday during math class.   

8th Grade Math:  Today in 8th grade pre-algebra, students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, we jumped back into dividing fractions and mixed numbers.  After a quick review of adding and subtracting like and unlike fractions, as well as the rules of multiplying fractions, students took some notes on how to divide fractions, before practicing several example problems.    

Assignments:   Students will be taking the MAPs Math test on Tuesday during math class.     

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students were introduced to the classification systems of living things.  We had a class discussion on the different classifications of animals and plants, and how we tend to classify living things based on similarities or differences.  We went on to read section three of chapter one in the From Bacteria to Plants text book.  Students defined key vocabulary words, as well as answered several questions throughout the reading.       

Assignments:   None.

7th Grade Math:  Today in pre-algebra, students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students jumped back into polygon activity.  Today, students were focusing on making their 8 perfect shapes using a protractor and a ruler to aide them in the process.    

Assignments:   Students should also be spending 15 minutes on Study Island by Friday.  

8th Grade Math:  Today in pre-algebra, students began class with the problem of the day.  Next students reviewed adding and subtracting like and unlike fractions as well as multiplying fractions and mixed numbers.  Students were then introduced to dividing fractions and reciprocals.  Students wrote the rule of dividing fractions in their notebooks before we practiced solving several examples together.   

Assignments:   Students should be spending at least 15 minutes on the Study Island website before Friday.     

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students evaluated another classmates Bikini Bottom Genetics Project by answering several questions while their partner shared their project with them.  Students in those groups then switched roles and shared their project.      

Assignments:   None.

7th Grade Math:  Today in pre-algebra, students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students jumped back into polygon activity.  After showing Mr. Olsen their completed table of the sum of interior angles as well as each individual interior angle for a given polygon, students were free to begin drawing their 8 perfect shapes, using a protractor and a ruler to aide them.    
 
Assignments:   Students should also be spending 15 minutes on Study Island by Friday. 

8th Grade Math:  Today in pre-algebra, students began class with the problem of the day.  Next students spent about 20 minutes working on the 5.4 worksheet, before we went to the computer lab and students spent the remainder of the class period working on their individual skills on the Study Island website. 

Assignments:   Students should be completing the section 5.4 worksheet as homework (odds only).   

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students who needed more time to complete their Bikini Bottom Genetics Project were given that time during science class in Mr. Whites room.  Students who completed their work on time got to watch Spongebob episodes in Mr. Olsen's room.    

Assignments:   The Bikini Bottom Genetics Project is officially due by Wednesday, April 24th.  Students will not receive any more class time to work on their projects.

7th Grade Math:  Today in pre-algebra, students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students jumped into a naming polygon activity that included measuring and calculating the perimeter of each polygon.  Next, students began finding the sum of the interior angles of several different polygons, and tomorrow they will begin drawing 8 perfect shapes.     

Assignments:   Students should also be spending 15 minutes on Study Island by Wednesday as well.  

8th Grade Math:  Today in pre-algebra, students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students were introduced to multiplying fractions.  After a quick review of adding and subtracting like and unlike fractions, as well as mixed numbers with different denominators, students took some more notes on multiplying fractions.  We did several examples together as a group, and students reviewed the idea of cross-canceling in order to simplify fractions before actually multiplying the numerators and denominators.   Students were then assigned the 5.4 worksheet (odds only) as homework.   

Assignments:   Students should be completing the section 5.4 worksheet as homework (odds only).  Students should also be spending about 15 minutes on the Study Island website working with multiplying fractions before class on Wednesday.   

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  We hosted some vistiors from SAGA today and we went outside and collected some garbage from around our school in honor of Earth Day, which was officially yesterday.

7th Grade Math:  Today in pre-algebra, students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students were introduced to solving for the volume of pyramids and cones.  Students took notes on the formulas for volume, and participated in solving several examples of both pyramids and cones.  The sections 10.8 worksheet was assigned as homework, to be due on Tuesday in class.     

Assignments:   Students should be completing the section 10.8 worksheet if they did not complete it in the class time allotted.  Students should also be spending 15 minutes on Study Island by Wednesday as well.

Assignments:   The Bikini Bottom Genetics Project is officially due by Wednesday, April 24th.  Students will not receive any more class time to work on their projects.  Students can expect to spend Tuesday outside collecting garbage with some visitors from SAGA during class in honor of Earth day.

7th Grade Math:  Today in pre-algebra, students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students were introduced to solving for the volume of prisms and cylinders.  Students took notes on the formulas for volume, and participated in solving several examples of both prisms and cylinders.  The sections 10.7 worksheet was assigned as homework, to be due on Friday in class.     

Assignments:   Students should be completing the section 10.7 worksheet if they did not complete it in the class time allotted.  Students can expect a quiz on surface area and volume on Friday in class.

8th Grade Math:  Today in pre-algebra, students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students were introduced to adding and subtracting UNLIKE fractions.  Students practiced finding the LCD of fractions to be added or subtracted, and then converted said fractions into fractions with like denominators.  After some teacher led instruction and several example problems, students were assigned the section 5.3 worksheet and given the last 20 minutes of class time to get started.         

Assignments:   The section 5.3 worksheet is due Friday in class.  Students should be spending about 15 minutes on the Study Island website before class on Wednesday.   Students can also expect a quiz on adding and subtracting like and unlike fractions in class on Friday.  

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Students then began putting together their final products for their Bikini Bottom Genetics Project.  Today was the last day of class time to work on their final products.  

Assignments:   The Bikini Bottom Genetics Project is officially due by next Wednesday, April 24th.  Students will not receive any more class time to work on their projects.

7th Grade Math:  Today in pre-algebra, students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students jumped back into solving for the surface area of pyramids and cones.  Students practiced finding the slant heights of both pyramids and cones by using the Pythagorean Theorem in order to find the missing side length of a right triangle.  Next, students were introduced to the formulas for finding the surface area of pyramids and cones.  After some teacher led instruction and several examples, students were given about 20 minutes of class time to get started on the 10.6 worksheet.      

Assignments:   Students should be completing the section 10.6 worksheet if they did not complete it in the class time allotted.

7th Grade Math:  Today in pre-algebra, students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students continued working on finding the surface area of prisms.  Students were handed two different nets, and were asked to calculate the surface area and then cut them out and put the shape together.  Then students were handed a packet of several different prisms, and were asked to calculate the surface area of each.     

Assignments:   Students should be completing the surface area packet given to them in class if they did not complete it in the class time allotted.    

8th Grade Math:  Today in pre-algebra, students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, we jumped back into adding and subtracting like fractions.  After some teacher led instruction, and several example problems, students were assigned the 5.2 worksheet, and given about 20 minutes of class time to get started.           

Assignments:  The section 5.2 worksheet is due on Wednesday in class.  Students should also be spending about 15 minutes on the Study Island website before class on Wednesday.  

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Students then continued creating rough drafts of all of their family members (in color!).  Students also began putting together their final products.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Students then jumped back into chapter 10, and today students jumped into surface area of prisms and cylinders.  Students were introduced to the surface area formula for prisms today in class, and after some teacher led instruction and several example problems, students were assigned five problems from their at home text books, on page 541 # 6,7,8,9, 14.  

Assignments:   Students are to complete the problems from their at home text books for class on Friday, as well as completing their 30 minutes of Study Island time.  

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.   Students then jumped into chapter 5 on converting fractions to decimals and vise versa.  Students practiced converting fractions into decimals and understanding the difference between a repeating decimal and a terminating decimal.  Students were then assigned some problems from the textbooks, p.222 #20-35 (odds only) to be due on Friday.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Students then jumped back into chapter 10, and today students jumped back into solving for the circumference, diameter and/or the radius of a given circle.  Today students were introduced to solving for the area of a given circle.  After some teacher led instruction and a few example problems, students were assigned the 10.4 worksheet as homework and given about 15 minutes of class time to get started.

7th Grade Math:  7th graders blocked with their language arts teachers today, as the 8th graders took the Science SBA.  

Assignments:   Students are to complete some book work, page 531 # 1-15 on finding the circumference, diameter and radius of circles to be due on Thursday.  

8th Grade Math:  8th graders took the Science SBA this morning.      

Assignments:  Students will be taking the chapter 4 test on Thursday of this week.  

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Students were then introduced to the next unit, the Bikini Bottom Genetics Unit.  Students spent todays class period working through a worksheet that helped them gain a better understanding of genotypes, phenotypes, and Punnett squares.  

Assignments:   Students should be completing the Bikini Bottom Genetics worksheet we began in class if they did not complete the worksheet in the class time provided.   

FYI:  Parents!  Starting on Monday (10/22, the first day of the second quarter), teachers in the Aurora house will no longer accept late work from our students.  Students will get credit for the work they do, when it is due.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Students then jumped back into chapter 10, and today students jumped into solving for the circumference, diameter and/or the radius of a given circle.  Students were introduced to the formulas for finding the circumference, and with that information they can find the diameter or the radius.  

Assignments:   Students are to complete some book work, page 531 # 1-15 on finding the circumference, diameter and radius of circles to be due on Thursday.  

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.   Students then got some computer lab time to work on their SBA prep skills on Study Island.  After 30 minutes of lab time, we came back to the classroom and students began some chapter 4 test preparation by completing the chapter 4 review activity in the text book.      

Assignments:  Students will be taking the chapter 4 test on Thursday of this week.  

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Students then continued their SBA preparation by getting into groups that included at least one 8th grader and one 7th grader, and together they worked on discussing and solving practice SBA questions, as all 8th graders will be taking the Science SBA on Wednesday morning of this week.  

Assignments:   None.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Students then jumped back into chapter 10, and today students were introduced to finding the area of parallelograms and trapezoids.  Students were introduced to the area formulas for both parallelograms and trapezoids, and worked through several example problems, calculating the area for the given polygon.  Students were then assigned the 10.3 worksheet to be due on Tuesday in class.  

Assignments:   Students are to complete the 10.3 worksheet for class on Tuesday.  

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.   Students then jumped back into taking notes on section 4.7 on scientific notation.   Students practiced converting numbers from standard form into product form and then into scientific notation.  They also practiced converting from scientific notation into standard form.  After some teacher led instruction, students were assigned the 4.7 worksheet, to be due Tuesday in class.       

Assignments:  Students were assigned the 4.7 worksheet as homework, to be due Tuesday in class.   

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Students then got into groups that included at least one 8th grader and one 7th grader, and together they worked together discussing and solving practice SBA questions, as all 8th graders will be taking the Science SBA on Wednesday morning of this week.
