7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next,  we transitioned into chapter 7.  Today students learned to use fractions to find the percent of a number.  After several examples and some teacher instruction, students were assigned the 7.1 worksheet, to be due Friday in class.  

Assignments:   Study Island Review Homework #32 is due by the end of the day Friday (3/1).  The section 7.1 worksheet is due on Friday in class.

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Today we jumped in to section 2 on finding the greatest common factor of two or more numbers.  Students learned about two different methods to find a GCF, including listing all the factors of the numbers in question, and finding the prime factorization of each of the numbers and multiplying together the common factors.  Students were assigned several problems from their at home text books, pp. 179 #1-27 (odds), to be due on Friday in class.  

Assignments:  Study Island Review Homework #35 is due by the end of the day Friday (3/1).  Students were also assigned a two part assignment, Solutions First and Inequality Quilt,  to be due on Friday of this week (3/1).   The book work from page 179 #1-27 (odds) are due Friday in class.   

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Students then jumped back into the poster/diagram of how the processes of photosynthesis and respiration work together.  (Compare and contrast the two).  Students will also be responsible for writing a four (4) paragraph essay on the two processes mentioned above as well as detailing how they work together.  Both of these tasks will be due on Monday March 4th.    

Assignments:    The photosynthesis and respiration diagrams and the four paragraph essay will both be due on Monday March 4th.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next,  we transitioned back into our next unit, a Fraction Finding Mission.  Students are responsible for memorizing 16 fractions as well as their decimal and percentage equivalents.  Students will be tested on their study skills and knowledge of these assigned equivalents on March 14th.  Today students created a foldable out of paper to help them in their quest to memorize these 16 fractions and their equivalents.  

Assignments:   Study Island Review Homework #32 is due by the end of the day Friday (3/1).  

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Today we jumped back in to section 1 on the prime factorization of numbers.  Students learned about monomials in class today and we factored several examples of monomials together, before students were assigned the 4.1 worksheet as homework.  Students were then given about 25 minutes of class time down in the computer lab in order for them to work on their Study Island assignments.  

Assignments:  Study Island Review Homework #35 is due by the end of the day Friday (3/1).  Students were also assigned a two part assignment, Solutions First and Inequality Quilt,  to be due on Friday of this week (3/1).   The section 4.1 worksheet is due on Thursday in class.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, students completed their chapter 6 tests.  We transitioned into our next unit, a Fraction Finding Mission.  Students will be responsible for memorizing several fractions as well as their decimal and percentage equivalents.  Students will be tested on their study skills and knowledge of these assigned equivalents on March 14th.  

Assignments:   Study Island Review Homework #31 is due by the end of the day Wednesday (2/27).  Students were handed a fraction, decimal and percentage worksheet for homework, due on Wednesday in class. 

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students transitioned into chapter 4.  Today we jumped in to section 1 on the prime factorization of numbers.  Students worked with finding factors of a given number, as well as developing factor trees for the given number.   Students were assigned some book work this evening, page 174-175 numbers 2-30 (evens only) to be due on Wednesday in class.  

Assignments:  Study Island Review Homework #34 is due by the end of the day Wednesday (2/27).  Students were also assigned a two part assignment, Solutions First and Inequality Quilt,  to be due on Friday of this week (3/1).     

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Students took time to learn about and read about respiration in class today.   Students should be making connections with the relationship between photosynthesis and respiration.   

Assignments:    Students were assigned a respiration worksheet to be due Wednesday in class.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, we moved into probability.  Students graded their 6.7 homework (the back side), before we jumped into section 8 on the counting principle.  Students defined the counting principle and tree diagrams, and we then worked on a few examples of each together.  Students then practiced finding the probability of an event by using the counting principle.  Students were then assigned the 6.8 worksheet as homework.  

Assignments:   Students were assigned the rest of the section 6.8 worksheet, to be due on Friday.  The chapter 6 test will be on Monday of next week.        

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students participated in a chapter review activity titled Review around the Room.  Students were assigned a letter, and then proceeded to move around the room completing problems from each section of chapter 3 as a review for the chapter test on Friday.  

Assignments:  Students should be reviewing their notes and key concepts from chapter 3 for the test on Friday.     

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Students then began reviewing the key concepts and vocabulary from chapter 1 for the upcoming test on Friday.  Today students spent the class period creating a 4in X 6in notecard of information they feel will help them on the test on Friday.  Students will be allowed the opportunity to use their completed front and back notecard on the chapter 1 test on Friday.  

Assignments:    Students can be reviewing the key concepts and vocabulary for the upcoming chapter 1 test on Friday.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, we moved into probability.  Students graded their 6.7 homework from over the break, before we finished up the notes on probability and odds, and students were given the remaining 15 minutes of class time to complete their homework.  

Assignments:   Students were assigned the rest of the section 6.7 worksheet, to be due on Thursday.  The chapter 6 test will be on Monday of next week.        

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, we jumped back into section 6 of chapter 3.   Today students reviewed the basics of solving multi step inequalities, before we practiced a few problems together.  Students were then assigned the 3.6 worksheet and asked to compete the odds only for Thursday.   

Assignments:  Students were assigned the 3.6 worksheet to be due on Thursday (odds only).   

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Students pair shared their Osmosis Jones summaries that were due today, with a classmate, where they evaluated their classmates writing.  Next, students moved onto completing a "How well do I know these vocabulary words" worksheet, that will help them prepare for the upcoming chapter 1 test on Cell structure and their Functions.  

Assignments:    Students can be working on and completing the "How well do I know these words" worksheet for class on Thursday.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, we moved into probability.  Students were discussed their results from yesterdays concept activity, before we jumped into section 7 in the book.  Students practiced finding the probability of an event using the given equations, as well as finding experimental probability of a given event.    

Assignments:   Students were assigned the front side of the section 6.7 worksheet, to be due on Wednesday the 20th.      

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, we jumped back into section 6 of chapter 3.   Today we continued working on  solving multi step inequalities.  Students continued practicing solving one step inequalities and we slowly began integrating a second step into the equations.  

Assignments:  Students were assigned problems from their at home textbooks, p. 151 # 10-21 to be due on Wednesday Feb. 20th.  

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  We blocked our afternoon in science and social studies, and Mr. Olsen's class spent two hours in science.  Students today reflected on the six demonstrations presented to them Monday in class, demonstrating the three methods of cellular material transport we have been learning about (diffusion, osmosis, and active transport).  Today, students viewed the film "Osmosis Jones" and made some connections with the concepts we have been talking about.  

Assignments:    Students have been assigned to write a 1-2 page summary paper of the film "Osmosis Jones" that will be due on Wednesday February 20th.   Students were also offered an extension/extra credit assignment over break, called An EggCELLent Experiment, also to be due on Wednesday February 20th.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, we moved into probability.  Students spent some time defining eight key vocabulary words, before we jumped into a conceptual activity where students were handed a dixie cup and asked to flip the cup the exact same way 30 times and to record the frequency of how it landed in a frequency table.  From there, students were asked several questions they could answer based on the results of their experiment.  Students were asked to complete the experiment at home as homework, and to come to class on Wednesday with results to discuss.   

Assignments:   Study Island Review Homework #30 is due Wednesday by the end of the day.      

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, we jumped back into section 4 of chapter 3.  Students continued working on solving and graphing solutions to inequalities.  Today we worked on solving multi step inequalities.  Students continued practicing solving one step inequalities and we slowly began integrating a second step into the equations.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, we moved into section 6 of chapter 6.    Students were introduced to the idea of scale, and how it relates to maps and drawings.  We then practiced calculating unknown distances using the given scales presented on a map or drawing.  Students were assigned the 6.6 worksheet for homework.  

Assignments:   Study Island Review Homework #30 is due Wednesday by the end of the day.  Section 6.6 worksheet is due on Tuesday in class.    

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, we jumped back into section 4 of chapter 3.  Students continued working on solving and graphing solutions to inequalities.  Today we worked on solving inequalities using multiplication and division.  Students were reminded of how to solve one and two step equations with equal signs, and then substituted a inequality in for the equal sign and solved and graphed their solutions.  Students were then assigned the 3.5 worksheet (odds only) and given about 15 minutes of class time to begin working on the assignment.  

Assignments:  Study Island Review Homework #33 is due Wednesday by the end of the day.  Section 3.5 worksheet (odds Only) is due Tuesday in class.   

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Today, students made observations and inferences based on the three methods that materials can move in and out of cells.  Students observed five different situations demonstrating diffusion, osmosis, and active transport of materials and related them to how cells utilize those three methods of transport.  

Assignments:    Students should be completing the Cell in its Environment worksheet handed out as homework.  It will be due on Tuesday/Wednesday.  We will be blocking science and social studies on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, we moved into section 5 of chapter 6.  We graded our 6.4 homework before students were introduced to finding unknown side lengths of similar figures.  Students practiced using the cross products property after setting up ratios using the information given.  We then practiced solving proportions using algebra.  Students were assigned the 6.5 worksheet for homework.  

Assignments:   Section 6.5 worksheet is due on Friday in class.  Students can expect a quiz on similar and congruent figures in class on Friday.   

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, we jumped back into section 4 of chapter 3.  Students continued working on solving and graphing solutions to inequalities.  Today we worked on solving inequalities using multiplication and division.  Students were reminded of how to solve one and two step equations with equal signs, and then substituted a inequality in for the equal sign and solved and graphed their solutions.  Students were assigned seven problems from their at home textbook, p. 146 #12-19 due on Friday in class.

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Today, students completed the lab designed to determine whether the foods that they tested contained starches or lipids by using the "brown paper" test or the "iodine test".

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, we moved into section 4 of chapter 6 on similar and congruent figures.  Students reviewed the definitions of congruent, corresponding and similar and how they relate to shapes, before practicing identifying similar and congruent shapes, sides and angles.  Students were then assigned the 6.4 worksheet for homework, and give about 15 minutes of class time to begin working on the assignment.  


Assignments:   Section 6.4 worksheet is due on Thursday in class.   

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, we jumped back into section 4 of chapter 3.  Students continued working on solving and graphing solutions to inequalities.  Today we worked on solving inequalities using addition and subtraction, and graphing the solutions on number lines.   After some teacher led instruction, students were assigned the 3.4 worksheet and given about 30 minutes of class time to work on the assignment.  

Assignments:  Section 3.4 worksheet is due on Thursday in class.   

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Today, students participated in a lab designed for students to determine whether the foods that they tested contained starches or lipids by using the "brown paper" test or the "iodine test".

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, we jumped back into our conversation on geometry concepts, and today students participated in an activity where we created two similar triangles, and practiced identifying the corresponding sides and angles, as well as measuring each angle of the triangles using a protractor and ruler if needed.  We then jumped back into the book and started taking notes on section 4 on identifying similar and congruent figures.  

Assignments:   Study Island Review Homework #29 is due by the end of the day on Wednesday.  

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, we jumped back into section 4 of chapter 3.  Students continued working on solving and graphing solutions to inequalities.  Today we worked on solving inequalities using addition and subtraction, and graphing the solutions on number lines.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, we reviewed ratios and proportions, before starting a lesson on basic geometry concepts.  Students were introduced to several new vocabulary words related to geometric shapes, including lines, points, rays and segments.  We talked about angles, and similar and congruent shapes and segments.  

Assignments:   Study Island Review Homework #29 is due by the end of the day on Wednesday.  

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, we jumped back into section 4 of chapter 3.  Students discussed the different inequality symbols, and when and how to use each, before we practiced building inequalities out of word problems.  We also practiced developing inequality equations just by looking at a number line with a graphed solution.      

Assignments:  Study Island Review Homework #31 is due by the end of the day on Wednesday.  

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Today, students participated in a basic microscope lab, where students discussed the differences between simple and compound microscopes and were then given the opportunity to look at cells of different organisms through simple and compound microscopes.
