!!!HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day, before enjoying halloween and completing a packet of halloween themed math worksheets. 

Assignments:   The halloween themed packet of worksheets are due Thursday.   

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, we jumped back into section two of chapter two.   Students who completed their 2.2 worksheet for homework were handed a packet of halloween themed math worksheets.  Students who failed to complete last nights homework, spent the class period completing their work.  


Assignments:   Review Homework #16 is due Friday.   

Science:  Today in science, students worked with their partner for the Bubble Gum Challenge activity.  Students spent time in class typing up their groups materials list, procedures lists and building a data table for another group that will conduct someone else's experiment in class the next two days.   

Assignments:  Students should be finishing up the typed materials lists and procedures lists for class on Thursday.   


FYI:  Parents!  Starting on Monday (10/22, the first day of the second quarter), teachers in the Aurora house will no longer accept late work from our students.  Students will get credit for the work they do, when it is due.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day, before jumping back into chapter 3.  Today students began working with equations with variables on both sides of the equal sign.  We reviewed two-step equations, and solving equations involving like terms and parentheses before applying all of those skills with variables on both sides of the equal sign.  

Assignments:   Review Homework #14 is due Wednesday.

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, we jumped back into section two of chapter two.   We reviewed the rules associated with adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing integers before jumping back into the distributive property.  After a few teacher led example problems, students were assigned the 2.2 worksheet and given about 20 minutes of class time to get started.  


Assignments:   Review Homework #15 is due Wednesday.  The section 2.2 worksheet is due Wednesday in class.  

Science:  Today in science, students worked with their partner for the Bubble Gum Challenge activity.  Students spent time in class completing their gum experiments, graphing their results, and beginning to write out their lab write-ups, which will need to be typed up by the end of class on Wednesday.   

Assignments:  Students can and should be analyzing their data from their bubble gum experiments.  Students should be organizing their notes and packets to be prepared to type up their materials lists and procedures on Wednesday in class.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day, before jumping into chapter 3.  Today students continued to work with equations involving multiple steps, like terms and parentheses.  Students seem to be struggling with solving equations involving the distributive property, so we spent some class time today reviewing solving equations with the distributive property.  Students were assigned the 3.2 worksheet for homework.    

Assignments:   Review Homework #14 is due Wednesday.   The section 3.2 worksheet is due Tuesday in class.   Students can also be making corrections to their chapter 2 tests, and they are due in class on Tuesday.  

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students reviewed the properties of addition and multiplication, before moving into problems involving the distributive property.  We defined the property in class, and practiced several examples before time ran out in class.   


Assignments:   Review Homework #15 is due Wednesday.  Students can complete quiz corrections by Tuesday if they would like to improve their quiz grades.  

Science:  Today in science, students worked with their partner for the Bubble Gum Challenge activity.  Students spent time in class completing their gum experiments, graphing their results, and beginning to write out their lab write-ups, which will need to be typed up by the end of class on Wednesday.   

Assignments:  Students can and should be analyzing their data from their bubble gum experiments.  Students should have their graphs of their results done by class on Tuesday.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day, before jumping into chapter 3.  Today students were introduced to solving two-step equations, and solving equations that have like terms and parentheses.  Mr. Olsen led students through several examples before we ran out of class time.    

Assignments:   Review Homework #13 is due Friday.   The math journal property activity has a tentative due date of this Friday in class.  

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, we continued working with the  properties of addition and multiplication.  Today students were introduced to the distributive property.  Mr. Olsen led students through several key vocabulary words and a few example problems before time ran out.   


Assignments:   Review Homework #14 is due Friday.  Students can expect a quiz on the first six properties we have talked about in section one of chapter 2.  

Science:  Today in science, students worked with their partner for the Bubble Gum Challenge activity.  Students spent time in class completing their materials lists and their detailed procedures list.  Once Mr. Olsen checked off each groups procedure lists, students were given the opportunity to begin their bubble gum experiments.  

Assignments:  Students can and should be completing their procedures list so they can continue with their bubble gum experiments on Friday in class.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day, before completing the chapter 2 test.  Next, students were introduced to a Math Journal Property Activity.  Students are to detail and give examples of the different properties they have learned about through the first two chapters.  And finally, students are to complete a multi-step problem, utilizing the properties throughout the problem.      

Assignments:   Review Homework #13 is due Friday.   The math journal property activity has a tentative due date of this Friday in class.  

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, we continued working with the  properties of addition and multiplication.  Today students were introduced to conversions from one unit to another.  After some teacher led instruction and several example problems students were assigned the section 2.1 worksheet.  


Assignments:   Review Homework #14 is due Friday.  The section 2.1 worksheet is due in class on Thursday. 

Science:  Today in science, students worked with their partner for the Bubble Gum Challenge activity.  Students spent time in class completing their materials lists and their detailed procedures list.

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, we continued working with the  properties of addition and multiplication.  Today students were introduced to the Identity properties of addition and multiplication as well.  
 We then practiced identifying the different properties in example problems.  

Assignments:   Review Homework #13 is due Wednesday.    

Science:  Today in science, students worked with their partner for the Bubble Gum Challenge activity.  Students spent time in class completing their materials lists, before beginning to put together their detailed procedures list.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day, before beginning the review process for the upcoming chapter test.  Students were broken into labelled groups, and then moved around the room completing problems that contained their group label.      

Assignments:   Review Homework #12 is due Wednesday.   The chapter 2 test will be Tuesday.  

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, we jumped into chapter 2 and the properties of addition and multiplication.  After some teacher led instruction, and the introduction of the commutative and associative properties of addition and multiplication, and several example problems, students were given six problems to solve for class on Tuesday.   
 

Assignments:   Review Homework #13 is due Wednesday.   The six problems assigned at the end of class today are due first thing on Tuesday.  

Science:  Today in science, students worked with their partner for the Bubble Gum Challenge activity.  Students spent time in class going through the survey results from Friday's class, before moving into their hypothesis and identification of their independent, dependent and control variables.  They then moved on to developing a materials list. 

Assignments:  Students can continue gathering background research on their testable question they developed in class today.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day, before continuing to work with chapter 2.  Next, we spent a bit of time reviewing the rules associated with adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing decimals.  In section 2.7, it is all about using the rules we learned about solving equations with the property of equalities, but this time using decimals.  So, after some teacher led instruction and several reminders about following the rules, students were assigned the 2.7 worksheet for homework.      

Assignments:   The section 2.7 worksheet is due on Friday in class.   

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, students took the chapter 1 test.   
 

Assignments:   Review Homework #12 is due Friday. 

Science:  Today in science, students worked with their partner for the Bubble Gum Challenge activity.  Students spent time in class generating survey questions that they will pass along to some other classes and get some information to help them design their bubble gum experiment.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day, before continuing to work with chapter 2.  Next, we jumped back into section 2.6 on solving equations with division or multiplication.  After some teacher led review and instruction with several example problems of solving equations using the division and multiplication properties of equality, students were assigned the 2.6 worksheet as homework.      

Assignments:   The section 2.6 worksheet is due on Thursday in class.   

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, students began preparations for the upcoming chapter test, by updating and organizing their math notebooks, and completing the chapter review at the end of chapter 1.  The chapter test will be on Thursday.   
 

Assignments:   Review Homework #12 is due Friday.   Students should be preparing for the chapter 1 test scheduled for Thursday.   

Science:  Today in science, students worked with their partner for the Bubble Gum Challenge activity.  By the end of class students had developed their testable question that they will design an experiment to find an answer to.  

Assignments:  Students can begin gathering background research on their testable question they developed in class today.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day, before continuing to  work with chapter 2.  Next, we graded our homework that was due today before jumping into section 2.6 on solving equations with division or multiplication.  After some teacher led review and instruction with several example problems of solving equations using the division and multiplication properties of equality, students practiced a few examples on their own.    

Assignments:   Review Homework #11 is due Wednesday.    

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, students jumped back into chapter 1, and today students were introduced to the coordinate grid.  Students identified key vocabulary, including the x and y axis's, the origin, and quadrants, and they also learned how to identify points and plot points on a coordinate grid.  
After some teacher led review and instruction with several examples problems of plotting and identifying points, students were assigned the 1.8 worksheet for homework, and given about 15 minutes of class time to work on it.  

Assignments:   Review Homework #11 is due Wednesday.   The section 1.8 worksheet is due on Wednesday in class.  

Science:  Today in science, students reviewed how to identify dependent and independent variables within experiments.  Students were then introduced to the Bubble Gum Challenge Activity.  Students chose a partner to work with over the next few weeks, and they began brain storming ideas of testable questions, and what they want to experiment with based on the topic of "which brand of gum is best".

7th Grade Math:  Today in math, students began class with the problem of the day, before continuing to  work with chapter 2.  Next, we graded our homework that was due today before jumping into section 2.5 on solving equations with addition or subtraction.  After some teacher led review and instruction with several examples problems of solving equations using the addition or subtraction properties of equality, students were assigned problems in the textbook (page 93-94 #12-40 evens only).  

Assignments:   Review Homework #11 is due Wednesday.   Page 93-94 in their at home textbooks #12-40 Evens only due Tuesday.

Science:  Today in science, students began identifying dependent and independent variables within experiments.  Students were given the definitions for a control, as well as what an independent and dependent variable may look like within an experimental setting.  Students were given several scenarios in which they identified the controls, the independent and dependent variables in each situation as a class, before being handed a worksheet with four separate scenarios, and they have to identify each variable themselves.  

Assignments:  The scientific method Controls and variables worksheet is due on Tuesday in class if they did not finish in the time provided in class.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math, students began class with the problem of the day, before continuing to  work with chapter 2.  Next, we graded our homework that was due today before jumping into section 2.5 on solving equations with addition or subtraction.  After some teacher led instruction and several examples problems of solving equations using the addition or subtraction properties of equality, students were reminded of the homework due tomorrow.   

Assignments:   Review Homework #10 is due Friday.   The Order of Operations puzzle is due Friday.  

8th Grade Math:  Today in math, students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, students jumped back into chapter 1, and today we continued learning about multiplying and dividing integers.  After some teacher led instruction and several example problems where students applied the rules for multiplying and dividing integers, students were assigned the 1.7 worksheet and given about 20 minutes of class time to complete their work.     


Assignments:   Review Homework #10 is due Friday.   The section 1.7 worksheet is due on Friday.   

Science:  Today in science, students went outside with their Local Ecology Project groups and documented the soil temperatures of their plots, took pictures and made several observations about the differences of the condition of their plots today compared to a month ago (the last time we visited the plots).

7th Grade Math:  Today in math, students began class with the problem of the day, before continuing to  work with chapter 2.  Today students reviewed the terminology associated with terms (like terms, coefficients, and constants) and quickly reviewed the process of simplifying expressions.  Next, we graded our homework that was due today before jumping into section 2.4 on solving equations with variables.  After some teacher led instruction and several examples problems of writing verbal sentences as equations, students were assigned the 2.4 worksheet for homework.  

Assignments:   Review Homework #10 is due Friday.   The section 2.4 worksheet is due Thursday in class.  Students were also handed a Order of Operations puzzle to work with and complete by Friday of this week.  

8th Grade Math:  Today in math, students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students jumped back into chapter 1, and today we started learning the rules for multiplying and dividing integers.  We graded our homework before students began practicing using the rules associated with multiplying and dividing integer.     


Assignments:   Review Homework #10 is due Friday.    

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the do now, before students jumped into an activity that had them writing detailed materials lists as well as a very detailed procedures list on how to build a mystery object.  Students then swapped lists and attempted to build the mystery object based on the materials and procedures list written by a fellow classmate.  

Assignments:  Students should be coming into class on Thursday prepared to go outside to their plots of land during class.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math, students began class with the problem of the day, before continuing to  work with chapter 2.  Today students reviewed the properties of addition and multiplication introduced last week in class, and graded the homework due today.  Next, students continued working with section 3 on simplifying expressions.  After some teacher led instruction, and several example problems, students were assigned the section 2.3 practice C for homework.

Assignments:   Review Homework #9 is due Wednesday.   The section 2.3 practice C worksheet is due Wednesday in class.  Students were also handed a Order of Operations puzzle to work with and complete by Friday of this week.  

8th Grade Math:  Today in math, students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, students jumped back into chapter 1, and today we continued learning about subtracting integers.  Before continuing with the notes on subtracting integers, Mr. Olsen led students through some notes on the rules associated with adding integers with the same signs, and different signs.   Students were then given about 20 minutes of class time to begin working on the 1.6 worksheet that was assigned for homework.    


Assignments:   Review Homework #9 is due Wednesday.    The section 1.6 worksheet is due on Wednesday in class.

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the do now, before we introduced the actual steps of the Scientific Method.  Students went through each step of the s.m. and took notes in their science notebooks on the proper layout of a scientific investigation.  Students then developed a testable questions based on one of three situations presented by Mr. Olsen and then, as a group, designed a step by step procedure list on how they would answer their testable question.  Next, students were handed a Report form from a fellow student from Monday's class, and students are to evaluate the Report Form they were handed.  

Assignments:  Students should be coming into class with a completed Evaluation Form of a Report Form given to them from yesterday activity.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math, students began class with the problem of the day, before continuing to  work with chapter 2.  Today students reviewed the properties of addition and multiplication introduced last week in class, and graded the homework due today.  Next, students were introduced to section 3 on simplifying expressions.  After some teacher led instruction, and several example problems, students were assigned homework out of their at home textbooks.  Pages 80-81 # 1-18 (all). 

Assignments:   Review Homework #9 is due Wednesday.   The homework on pages 80-81 #1-18(all) is due on Tuesday in class.

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the do now, before we continued with our  class discussion on what makes a good question, and how it may be testable.  Today, students participated in an activity designed to get students to process all of the steps taken within a scientific investigation, and come up with a testable question(s) based on an initial investigation already performed.  Students filled out a Report Form based on evidence collected from the data sheet.

Assignments:  Students should be coming into class with a completed Report Form from today's activity.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math, students began class with the problem of the day, before continued working with chapter 2.  Today students reviewed the properties of addition and multiplication introduced yesterday in class, and graded the homework due today.  Next, students were introduced to section 2 on the distributive property.  After some teacher led instruction, and several example problems, students were assigned homework out of their at home textbooks.  Pages 73-74 # 1-35 (odds). 

Assignments:   Review Homework #8 is due Friday.   The homework on pages 73-74 #1-35 (odds only) is due on Thursday in class.

8th Grade Math:  Today in math, students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, students jumped back into chapter 1, and today we started learning about adding integers.  We graded our homework (section 1.4 worksheet) in class, before Mr. Olsen led students through some notes on the rules associated with adding integers with the same signs, and different signs.

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the do now, before we continued with our  class discussion on what makes a good question, and how it may be testable.  Students picked up with their investigations from class yesterday, and are again analyzing data to formulate some conclusions about the source of the illness and recommendations to the director of the health department they are working with on the next steps the health department should take.

Assignments:  Students should be coming into class with a testable question to share within their table groups.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math, students began class with the problem of the day, before we jumped into chapter 2.  Today students were introduced to the properties of addition and multiplication, as well as conversion factors.  After some teacher led instruction, and several example problems, students were assigned the 2.1 worksheet for homework.

Assignments:   Review Homework #7 is due Wednesday.   The section 2.1 worksheet is due Wednesday.

8th Grade Math:  Today in math, students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, students jumped back into chapter 1, and today we reviewed  comparing and ordering integers.  Mr. Olsen led students through several example problems and reinforced several key vocabulary words, specifically, absolute value and opposites.  Students were then assigned the 1.4 worksheet and given about 20 minutes of class time to complete the homework.

8th Grade Math:  Today in math, students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, students jumped back into chapter 1, and today we covered comparing and ordering integers.  Mr. Olsen led students through several example problems and reinforced several key vocabulary words, specifically, absolute value and opposites.

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the do now, before we picked back up with our  class discussion on what makes a good question, and how it may be testable.  Students were given a scenario where they are public health consultants, and they have to determine if there is an outbreak of an illness affecting several middle schools.  Student teams were given attendance data to analyze and compare, in order to come up with a testable question to build off of.
