Algebra I: Today in math students began class with a Do Now and a set of warm up problems, before students graded their homework from Tuesday.  We then continued working with solving multi-step equations.  We answered several questions during class, before we started working with solving equations with variables on both sides of the equal sign. After some teacher led instruction and several examples, students were assigned 

Assignments:  The problems from the text book, page 23 # 2-17 are due Friday in class.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmaster activities.  We then graded our homework, the section 1.2 Practice A worksheet, before we continued learning the rules for adding integers with the same and different signs (positive and negative).  After some teacher led instruction, and reviewing the song students learned to help them remember the rules for adding and subtracting integers, students were assigned page 12 from the textbook, # 1-39, to be due Thursday in class..  

Assignments: Students were asked to complete page 12 of the textbook, #1-39 for class on Thursday.  

Science:  Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Students then participated in a class discussion on what observation is and how it is used in science.  We then took a walk on the trail around the school, where students picked a leaf any plant they wanted, and were responsible for writing at least 3 observations while we walked.  Students are to bring their leaf and their observations to class on Thursday.  

Assignments: None.

Algebra I: Today in math students began class with a Do Now and a set of warm up problems, before students graded their homework from Monday.  We then continued working with the Distributive Property and solving multi-step equations.  We answered several questions during class, thus, students were assigned some problems from the text book to continue practicing these skills.

Assignments:  The problems from the text book, page 16-17 #10, 14-16, 18-34 Evens, and 35-37 are due Wednesday in class.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmaster activities.  We then graded our homework, workbook pages 8 & 9 before we continued learning the rules for adding integers with the same and different signs (positive and negative).  After some teacher led instruction, and teaching students a song to help them remember the rules for adding and subtracting integers, students were assigned page 10 from the practice workbook as well as practice worksheet 1.2 Practice A (odds only) for class on Wednesday.  

Assignments: Review Homework #3 is due Wednesday in class.  Students were asked to complete page 10 in their practice workbooks and the odds on the section 1.2 Practice A worksheet for class on Wednesday. 

Science:  Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Students then watched the end of the film that we started on Monday with Ms. V's social studies class (ie, we blocked our science and social studies classes this afternoon for a second day) entitled the Genographic Project.  Students filled in a note-taking guide as we watched the film.  Once the film ended, students got back in some groups they were in last Friday in SS, and completed some posters that were connecting ideas from some articles they had read previously and the film we just watched.  

Assignments: Final Scientific Summer projects were due Friday in class!

Algebra I: Today in math students began class with a Do Now and a set of warm up problems, before students graded their quizzes from Friday.  We then transitioned into solving multi-step equations.  After some teacher led instruction, and several example problems, students were assigned the section 1.2 Practice B worksheet, to be due Tuesday in class.

Assignments:  The section 1.2 Practice B worksheet is due Tuesday in class.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmaster activities.  We then graded our homework, workbook page 6, from the weekend.  Students then began learning how to identify integers, and how to model adding positive integers and negative integers.  After some teacher led instruction and a few full class activities, students were asked to complete workbook pages 8 & 9 for class on Tuesday.  

Assignments: Review Homework #3 is due Wednesday in class.  Students were asked to complete pages 8 & 9 in their practice workbooks for class on Tuesday. 

Science:  Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Students then watched a film with Ms. V's social studies class (ie, we blocked our science and social studies classes this afternoon) entitled the Genographic Project.  Students filled in a note-taking guide as we watched the film.  We will connect the pieces of the film and the science on Tuesday in class.

Assignments: Final Scientific Summer projects were due Friday in class!

Algebra I: Today in math students began class with a Do Now and a set of warm up problems, before students graded their homework, section 1.1 WS Solving Simple Equations.  We then transitioned into working with and solving multi-step equations.  After some teacher led instruction, students were given class time to begin working on page 7 of their practice workbooks.  Workbook pages 7 & 10-11 are due Friday in class.  Students can expect a quiz on Friday in class as well.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmaster activities.  We then began working with the textbooks. Students spent some time talking about why taking in notes in math is a good thing, before we watched a video entitled "Take Note of what your Wrote".  Students were offered a list of 10 options on how to use their class notes effectively, through repetition.  We then transitioned back into the text book, and students were introduced to integers, both positive and negative.  We began working through Activity 1 from the practice workbook, page 3.  Students were asked to complete page 4 in their practice workbooks for class on Friday. 

Assignments: Review Homework #2 is due Friday in class.  Students were asked to complete page 4 in their practice workbooks for class on Friday. 

Science:  Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Students were then given the class period to put together their final products for the Scientific Summer project. Final projects are due Friday in class.

Algebra I: Today in math students began class with a Do Now and a set of warm up problems, before students graded their homework from page 8 (#21-38) of the textbook.  We then went down to get school pictures taken.  When we got back to the classroom, students watched a quick video on Repetition and the importance of quality note-taking skills to bring more success in the classroom.  Students were then handed a worksheet and given about 10 minutes of class time to get started on the homework, to be due Thursday in class.

Assignments:  Section worksheet 1.1 Solving Simple Equations is due Thursday in class.

7th Grade Math: Class was cut short today due to school pictures.  Today in math students began class with their flashmaster activities.  We then began working with the textbooks. Students graded their homework from Tuesday, before we ran out of class time.

Assignments: Review Homework #2 is due Friday in class.

Science:  Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Students were then reminded of the expectations regarding the Scientific Summer project we began last week. Students were then granted the remaining class time to finish typing both paragraphs of their Scientific Summer projects.  

Assignments: Students need to be coming to class on Thursday with both paragraphs for the Scientific Summer project typed and hopefully printed.  All students also need to bring their picture/image for their posters to class on Thursday.

Wednesday is Picture Day at D'zantik'i Heeni Middle School!  Please send your child to school with their picture forms!

Algebra I: Today in math students began class with a Do Now and a set of warm up problems, before students graded their homework from page 8 of the textbook.  We then reviewed how to use protractors and students needed some help with measuring angles. After some teacher led instruction and review, students were assigned some homework problems from the textbook, page 8 # 21-38, to be due Wednesday in class.

Assignments: Page 8 from the textbook # 21-38 are due Wednesday in class.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmaster activities.  We then began working with the textbooks.  Students completed the chapter 1 textbook scavenger hunt.  We then transitioned, and students were given the remaining time in class to complete page 1 in the textbook #1-6, to be due Wednesday in class.

Assignments: Review Homework #1 is due Wednesday in class.  Page 1 from the textbook, #1-6 are due Wednesday in class.

Science:  Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Students were then reminded of the expectations regarding the Scientific Summer project we began last week.  Once all students had paragraph one done for the project, students paired up and preformed a peer review of their partners second "scientific" paragraph.  Students were then given the remaining time in class to begin typing both paragraphs within their Google accounts.

Assignments: Students need to be coming to class on Wednesday with rough drafts of both paragraphs for the Scientific Summer project.

Algebra I: Today in math students began class with a Do Now and a set of warm up problems, before students graded their homework from page 1 of the textbook.  We then jumped right into chapter 1 on solving equations using addition and subtraction.  After some teacher led instruction and review, students were assigned some homework problems from the textbook, page 4 # 1-20, to be due Tuesday in class.

Assignments: Page 4 from the textbook # 1-20 are due Tuesday in class.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmaster activities.  We then began working with the textbooks.  While we began working on a textbook scavenger hunt, our first fire drill of the year occurred.  When the fire drill ended, we came back to class and continued working with the scavenger hunt.  We will finish the scavenger hunt in class on Tuesday.

Assignments: Review Homework #1 is due Wednesday in class.

Algebra I: Today in math students began class with a Do Now and a set of warm up problems, before students were introduced to the class and went through the class syllabus and expectations together digitally.  Next, students began working on the pre-course test. Students will complete the pre-course test on Friday in class. 

Assignments: None.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students were introduced to the class syllabus and we went of the expectations together as a class.  Next, students were all assigned a Flashmaster math facts hand held learning tool, and given time in class to get to know how to use it.  We will continue using these Flashmasters until all students show mastery of their addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts.  

Assignments: None.

Science:  Today in science students were introduced to Mr. Olsen and we went over class expectations and the class syllabus together digitally.  Students were then introduced to their first project of the year, Scientific Summer.  Students were given class time to begin bubble-mapping and brainstorming activities they participated in over the summer that involved some type of science.  

Assignments: Students need to be coming to class on Friday with a topic selected for their Scientific Summer project.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students were introduced to Mr. Olsen and spent some time getting to know their classmates. Students also went over the classroom and behavior expectations. 

Assignments: Our district is looking to save some paper this school year, and students and families are being asked to log onto the DHMS school website, locate your students class syllabus, print out the signature page and have your student bring that signature form into Mr.Olsen.  Students are to return their signed classroom and behavior expectations form by this Monday August 22nd.
