8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the problem of the day before transitioning back into section 1.1 on expressions and variables. Mr. Olsen led students through a few examples before handing out the 1.1 worksheet and giving students 25 minutes of class time to work on the assignment.

Assignments:
Review Homework #2 will be due on Friday. Section 1.1 worksheet is due on Thursday if students did not finish in the class time provided.

7th Grade Math:
Today in math students began class by using their flashmasters. Students then transitioned back into section 1.1 in the text. After Mr. Olsen led students through a few example problems, students were handed the 1.1 worksheet and given 20 minutes of class time to complete the assignment.

Assignments:
Review Homework #2 will be due on Friday. Section 1.1 worksheet is due on Thursday if students did not finish in the class time provided.

Science:
Today in science students continued focusing on the questions they developed in class concerning the topic or activity they chose for their Scientific Summer project they are working on. We spent about 45 minutes in the computer lab this afternoon for students to finish up their research and begin typing up their paragraphs for their posters.

Assignments:
Students can be writing up their paragraphs needed for the Scientific Summer posters they will be putting together in class tomorrow.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the problem of the day before transitioning into the introduction to chapter 1 in the pre-algebra textbook. Students were introduced to expressions and variables, and developed a place value table in their math notebooks for them to reference throughout the school year.

Assignments: Review Homework #1 will be due on Wednesday August 31.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class by using their flashmasters. Students then transitioned into the introduction to chapter 1 of the Course 2 math textbook. Students were introduced to patterns and how to recognize and describe in words the patterns they encounter.

Assignments:
Review Homework #1 will be due on Wednesday August 31.

Science:
Today in science students continued focusing on the questions they developed in class yesterday concerning the topic or activity they chose for their Scientific Summer project they are working on. We spent about the first 15-20 minutes of class working on developing focused questions that they then spent the rest of class attempting to answer down in the computer lab.

Assignments:
Students can be researching the questions they developed in class concerning their chosen activity for their summer.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the problem of the day before transitioning into the introduction to Cornell notes and a brief history of math. Students were handed a few different handouts that they glued into their math notebooks for them to reference throughout the year.

Assignments: Review Homework #1 was handed out and it will be due on Wednesday August 31.

Science: Today in science students were introduced to their first project of the year, Scientific Summer. Students bubble mapped the activities they participated in this past summer and they then selected one that they want to relate to science. Throughout the week they will be researching how the activity they chose is related to science and they will then write two paragraphs detailing how that activity is science related and describe the actual activity itself. They will also need to include a visual aid in the end product, which is due this Friday at the beginning of class.

Assignments:
Students can be researching the questions they developed in class concerning their chosen activity for their summer.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the problem of the day before transitioning into the pre-course assessment.

Assignments:
Students are to return their signed classroom and behavior expectations form by this Friday August 26th.

7th Grade Math:
Today in math students began class by using their flashmasters. Students then transitioned into the pre-course assessment.

Assignments: Students are to return their signed classroom and behavior expectations form by this Friday August 26th.

Science: Today in science students were handed two important documents, one is an assignment log and two is a scoring rubric for the elements of design that they were introduced to yesterday, and they were asked to glue this documents into their science notebooks for easy reference throughout the school year. Afterwards, we all participated in the Aurora House teambuilding activities.

Assignments:
Students have been asked to bring their planners home and go over and fill out and sign pages 33 and 34 of the student handbook with their parents or guardians and return them to Mr. Olsen on Thursday morning. Students are also to have their parents sign their planners this evening as well. Students are to return their signed classroom and behavior expectations form by this Friday August 26th.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students were assigned their take home (stay at home) math books for the school year. It was explained to them that these books are to come back to me at the end of the year in the same condition as they are bringing them home. Students also completed a Letter to My Math Teacher worksheet in which they are given the opportunity to describe their previous math experiences and their strengths and weaknesses in math.

Assignments:
If students did not finish their Letter to My Math Teacher, then it is homework for them and is due first thing on Thursday morning. Students are also to return their signed classroom and behavior expectations form by this Friday August 26th.

7th Grade Math:
Today in math students completed the Letter to My Math Teacher activity in which they are given the opportunity to explain a bit about their previous math experiences and expand on their strengths and weaknesses in order to give Mr. Olsen a bit of background information on each student. Students were then assigned a numbered Flashmaster unit that they will be using each day in math class.

Assignments:
Students are to return their signed classroom and behavior expectations form by this Friday August 26th.

Science:
Today in science students were introduced to the concept of C.R.A.P. Contrast, repetition, alignment, and proximity are the four elements of design, and we are asking all students to incorporate these elements of design into each and every project and assignment they are asked to complete throughout the school year.
