7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day before transitioning back into practicing cornell notes.  Today we whole number place value before transitioning into decimal place value.  Students have a quiz scheduled for Tuesday of next week.  Study hard!!

Assignments:   Hundred Dollar Words worksheet is due on Tuesday Sept. 4.  Students also have a quiz on Tuesday.

Toolbox/SKILZ:  Students began the day by beginning the Fabulous Flag activity.  Students are following instructions and folding paper into hexagons and they will decorate them with at least three symbols that they feel symbolize themselves. 

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day before transitioning back into practicing cornell notes.  Today we covered ancient number systems and moved into place value. 

Assignments:   Review Homework #1 is due on Wednesday.

Science:  Today in science students began with the Do Now.  Then students were introduced to their first project of the year, Scientific Summer.  Students selected an activity they bubbled mapped yesterday and they began writing rough drafts of two separate paragraphs describing the activity and finding how science is related to the activity.   

Assignments:  Students should continue working on their rough drafts of their paragraphs.

Toolbox/SKILZ:  Students began the day with a discussion on the meaning of Respect.  They then filled out a document detailing their ideas about the term respect and what it means to them and others around them.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day before transitioning into an introduction to Cornell Notes.  Cornell notes are a note-taking strategy that is an effective and meaningful way for students to organize their thoughts about that days topic and ready themselves for an upcoming assessment.

Assignments:   None.

Toolbox/SKILZ:  Students are to have their parents or guardians sign their planner this evening!

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day before transitioning back into and finishing up the pre-course assessment.

Assignments:   Students are to finish up problems #1-45 on the pre-course assessment for class on Friday.  Students are also to return their signed classroom and behavior expectations form by this Friday August 24th.

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day before transitioning back into the pre-course assessment.

Science:  Today in science students began with the Do Now.  Then students transitioned back into the task of finding examples of contrast, repetition, alignment and proximity within magazines, and glue them to a worksheet.  Once students completed part I of the assignment, they were handed part II and asked to describe or explain in words why they chose the examples they did choose. 

Assignments:  Part II of our C.R.A.P. activity is due on Friday at the beginning of class.  Students have been asked to bring their planners home and go over and fill out and sign pages 34 and 35 of the student handbook with their parents or guardians and return them to Mr. Olsen by Friday morning.   Students are to return their signed classroom and behavior expectations form by this Friday August 24th.

Assignments:  If students did not finish their Letter to My Math Teacher, then it is homework for them and is due first thing on Wednesday morning. Students are also to return their signed classroom and behavior expectations form by this Friday August 24th.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began a Letter to My Math Teacher worksheet in which they are given the opportunity to describe their previous math experiences and their strengths and weaknesses in math.

Science:  Today in science students were introduced to the concept of C.R.A.P.  Contrast, repetition, alignment, and proximity are the four elements of design, and we are asking all students to incorporate these elements of design into each and every project and assignment they are asked to complete throughout the school year.

Assignments:  Students were asked to find examples of each element of design and explain why the example they chose represents each element.  This assignment will be due at the beginning of class on Wednesday.  Students are to return their signed classroom and behavior expectations form by this Friday August 24th.
