8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, students jumped back into chapter four.  We reviewed the rules for dealing with multiplying and dividing exponents as well as zero and negative exponents, before students were given about 35 minutes of class time to complete the 4.6 worksheet. 

Assignments:    Review homework #4 is due on Wednesday.  Students should be completing the 4.6 worksheet for Wednesday if they did not finish in the class time provided.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class by using their flashmasters.  Next, students jumped back into chapter four.  We reviewed LCDs, and completed a few example problems before being given class time to complete the 4.5 worksheet. 

Assignments:   Review homework #4 is due on Wednesday.  Students should be completing the 4.5 worksheet for Wednesday if they did not finish in the class time provided.

Science:  Today in science, students continued working with the periodic table.  Today, students began class with a Do Now, before being introduced to the next activity, Bonding with a Classmate.  Students then spent the rest of class bonding with classmates during this structured activity.

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, students jumped back into chapter four.  We reviewed the rules for dealing with exponents, before students were introduced to section 4.6 and negative and zero exponents.  We spent the hour going over examples and applying the rules to different situations. 

Assignments:    Review homework #4 is due on Wednesday. 

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class by using their flashmasters.  Next, students jumped back into chapter four.  We reviewed GCFs and LCMs, as well as equivalent fractions before students were introduced to comparing and ordering fractions.  The least common denominator, or the LCD, was introduced to students and we spent the remaining time comparing fractions together as a class, by finding the LCD for each fraction we were comparing. 

Assignments:   Review homework #4 is due on Wednesday. 

Science:  Today in science, students continued working with the periodic table.  Today, students began class with a Do Now, before reviewing ionic and covalent bonds.  Next, students began learning how to name simple compounds.  Students were given the rules for how to name a compound and then given about 25 minutes of class time to complete a worksheet.

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, students jumped back into chapter four.  We reviewed the rules for dealing with exponents, before students were given class time to complete the 4.5 worksheet. 

Assignments:    Review homework #3 is due on Friday.  Students should be completing the 4.5 worksheet if they did not finish in the class time provided.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class by using their flashmasters.  Next, students jumped back into chapter four.  We reviewed GCFs and LCMs, before practicing several example problems with Mr. Olsen.  Students were then assigned the 4.4 worksheet and asked to complete #1-25 the odds only for Friday. 

Assignments:   Review homework #3 is due on Friday.  The 4.4 worksheet #1-25 (Odds Only) is due Friday. 

Science:  Today in science, students continued working with the periodic table.  Today, students began class with a Do Now, before reviewing oxidation numbers and how to calculate them.  Next, students reviewed Ionic bonds, and practiced writing them out and coming up the the chemical formulas.  We then began talking about covalent bonds.

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, students jumped back into chapter four.  We covered least common multiples yesterday and today and reviewed the process for determining the LCM.  Rules of exponents were then introduced to students.  Both the multiplication and division properties of exponents were presented to students and several examples were worked through. 

Assignments:    Review homework #3 is due on Friday. 

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class by using their flashmasters.  Next, students jumped back into chapter four.  We reviewed equivalent fractions, graded the 4.3 worksheet in class, and students were then introduced to the concept of least common multiples.

Science:  Today in science, students continued working with the periodic table.  Today, students began class with a Do Now, before reviewing oxidation numbers and how to calculate them.  Students were then introduced to the concept of ionic bonding.

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, students jumped back into chapter four.  We reviewed factors, primes and composites, GCFs and equivalent fractions, before Mr. Olsen introduced multiples.  After students had an understanding of the difference between factors and multiples, students were lead into finding the least common multiples. 

Assignments:    Review homework #2 is due on Wednesday.

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, students jumped back into chapter four.  We reviewed greatest common factors, including the two different methods for finding the GCFs, by listing factors and by using prime factorization, before allowing students about 20 minutes of class time to complete the 4.2 worksheet.  After 20 minutes of work time, Mr. Olsen then introduced the next section on equivalent fractions.  Key vocabulary was introduced as well as how to simplify fractions into their simplest form.

Assignments:    Review homework #1 is due on Friday.  Students should also be working on completing the front side of the 4.2 worksheet for Thursday morning.

Assignments:     Students should be completing the back side of the Atomic Basics worksheet, where they are drawing the Bohr models and Lewis structures for each of the elements on the worksheet for Thursday.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class by using their flashmasters.  Next, students took the MAPS assessment.

Science:  Today in science, students continued working with the periodic table.  Today's activity had students in the computer lab working with an interactive periodic table and completing a scavenger hunt of the elements.   

Assignments:     Students should be getting their planners signed by their parent/guardians for Mr. Olsen to check on Thursday morning.

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, students continued working with chapter 4.  Students are being re-introduced to factors, factor trees, and monomials.  Mr. Olsen spent time reviewing the key vocabulary as well as several examples before assigning the 4.1 section worksheet and giving students 25 minutes of class time to complete the assignment. 

Assignments:   Review Homework #26 is due on Wednesday.   Students should be completing the 4.1 section worksheet if they did not finish in the class time provided. 

UPDATE:  Mr Olsen has offered students an extra credit opportunity based on today's problem of the day.  Talk to your student to find out the details!

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class by using their flashmasters.  Next, students picked up where we left off on Monday, and continued working with factors, and factor trees.  We graded Mondays assignment, the section 4.1 worksheet, before we worked on more factors, primes and composite problems as a class. 

Assignments:   Review Homework #26 is due on Wednesday.

Science:  We didn't have science today, as some employees from Eaglecrest came to school to do some pre-lessons and answer any questions students had concerning our upcoming Aurora House ski days on Thursday and Friday of this week.  Students who are renting gear also were fitted for their rentals, so when we arrive at the hill on Thursday morning they will have the gear ready for each renting student. 

Assignments:     Students should be working on their periodic table worksheet assignment given to them last Friday.  It is due Wednesday in class.

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, students took the chapter 3 test.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class by using their flashmasters.  Next, students were introduced to chapter 4 and prime numbers.  Mr. Olsen defined what prime and composite numbers are and then the students worked on a coloring worksheet designed to help students identify prime numbers between 1 and 100. 

Assignments:   Review Homework #25 is due on Friday.

Science:  Today in science, students completed a Do Now to begin class.  Students then participated in a think pair share activity that introduced the periodic table.  Next students read an essay based on the founder of the periodic table and students had to answer a few questions based on their reading. 

Assignments:     Students should be answering the questions based on the reading from class if they did not finish in the class time provided.

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, students began their review of chapter 3.  Students were given multiple choices of how they went about their review process, and Mr. Olsen was available to help each individual as needed.  The chapter 3 test will be on Thursday of this week. 

Assignments:   Review Homework #25 is due on Friday. 

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class by using their flashmasters.  Next, students were handed back their chapter 3 tests and given the hour to make test corrections on the problems they missed in order to improve their overall grade on the test. 

Assignments:   Review Homework #25 is due on Friday.

Science:  Today in science, students completed a Do Now to begin class.  Students were then jumped back into the Gummy Bear Lab.  Students were able to get out of their seats and gather their materials they would need to complete the lab.  Once they had completed the necessary measurements, they were to answer several questions to further their understanding of what had transpired throughout the lab. 

Assignments:     Students should be answering the questions on the back side of their lab report for class on Thursday if they did not finish in the class time provided.

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, students jumped back into chapter 3.  We reviewed the rules for adding and subtracting and multiplying and dividing when working with inequalities.  Students then practiced several examples before Mr. Olsen assigned 16 problems from the text book to complete in the last half hour of class time.  The chapter 3 test will be on Thursday of this week. 
Assignments:   Students should be completing the 16 problems assigned in class if they did not finish in the class time provided. 

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class by using their flashmasters.  Next, we reviewed all of the different data displays introduced throughout chapter 3.  We talked about each display and why you might use that display when graphing a data set.  Next, students were assigned a cumulative review covering chapters 1, 2, 3 and asked to complete problems 1-47 odds.  Students were given about 45 minutes of class time to complete the assignment. 

Assignments:   Students should be completing the problems assigned in class if they did not finish in the class time provided. 

Science:  Today in science, students completed a Do Now to begin class.  Students were then introduced to the Gummy Bear Lab.  Students were handed a worksheet and all of the materials needed to calculate the mass, volume, and density of the gummy before adding 50 mL of water to their cup, which will sit overnight.   Students were asked to write out an hypothesis before beginning their experiment.
