8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students began working with multiplying and dividing powers.  Students learned the rules for each operation before we completed several example problems together as a group.  After some teacher led instruction and several questions and examples, students were assigned the section 4.5 WS as homework, to be due Friday in class.   

Students can expect a quiz on Friday in class.

Assignments:  Review HW #36 is due Friday in class.  The section 4.5 worksheet is due Friday in class.   

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students began working with mixed numbers, and improper fractions.  Students are learning how to convert a mixed number into an improper fraction and vise versa.  After some teacher led instruction and several questions and examples, students were assigned the section 4.6 worksheet as homework to be due Friday in class. 

Students can expect a quiz on Friday in class.

Assignments:   Review HW #36 is due Friday in class. The section 4.6 worksheet is due Friday in class.     

Science: Students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students jumped into their LEP groups and we visited our plots in either the old growth or new growth forests surrounding our school.  

The projects due date will be Monday March 2, 2015.

Assignments:  Students can be working on the drawings of all six family members in order to have their final projects done by Monday of next week.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students continued learning about factors and multiples.  We then continued talking about LCMs and students were reviewing how to find LCMs using prime factorization.  Many students needed more practice on LCMs of monomials as well as LCDs, so we spent a bit of time working on some examples together.  Students were just introduced to multiplying powers.  We will pick up on multiplying and dividing powers in class on Thursday.   

Assignments:  Review HW #36 is due Friday in class.  

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students continued the conversation on factors and multiples.  Today students continued  working with fractions and were introduced to working with mixed numbers and improper fractions.  We will pick up on the same topic tomorrow in class.

Science: Students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students jumped right back into their genetics project they were introduced to last week.  All students were given another work day to continue working towards completing their final projects.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students continued learning about factors and multiples.  We then continued talking about LCMs and students were reviewing how to find LCMs using prime factorization.  Students were then introduced to find the LCM of monomials.  Next, students began finding LCDs (least common Denominators) of fractions in order to compare and order given fractions.  After some teacher led instruction, and several examples, students were assigned the section 4.4 WS as homework, to be due Wednesday in class.  

Assignments:  Review HW #35 is due Wednesday in class.  Students were assigned the section 4.4 WS to be due Wednesday in class.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students continued the conversation on factors and multiples.  Today students continued  working with fractions and finding the LCD in order to compare and order any given fractions.  After some teacher led instruction, and several examples, students were assigned the section 4.5 WS, to be due Wednesday in class.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students continued learning about factors and multiples.  We then continued talking about LCMs and students were introduced to a second method of finding an LCM by listing each numbers prime factorization, circling any factors they have in common and multiplying the factors to find the LCM.  After some teacher led instruction, and several examples, students were assigned some book work, page 806 #20-28 as homework, to be due Tuesday in class.  

Assignments:  Review HW #35 is due Wednesday in class.  Students were assigned some book work, page 806 #20-28 as homework, to be due Tuesday in class.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students continued the conversation on factors and multiples.  Today students began working with fractions and finding the LCD.  After some teacher led instruction, and several examples, students were assigned some problems out of the book, page 187-188 #1-12 as homework, to be due Tuesday in class.  

Assignments:   Review HW #35 is due Wednesday in class.  Students were assigned some problems out of the book, page 187-188 #1-12 as homework, to be due Tuesday in class.   

Science: Students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students jumped right back into their genetics project they were introduced to last week.  All students should have developed genetic profiles of all six family members within their projects, and students are now being given class time to complete the final drafts of all family members.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students continued learning about factors and multiples.  Students reviewed how to factor or simplify monomial fractions into simplest form.  We then began talking about LCMs and students were learned one method of finding an LCM by listing multiples of the number in question and circling the least common multiple.  After some teacher led instruction, and several examples, students were assigned some book work, page 190 #16-26 evens as homework, to be due Friday in class.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students continued the conversation on factors and multiples.  Today students were learning about the differences between factors and multiples.  Students were introduced to two methods of finding the LCM, listing multiples, and using the prime factorization of the numbers in question in order to calculate the LCM.  After some teacher led instruction, and several examples, students were assigned the section 4.4 WS as homework, to be due Friday in class.

Science: Students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students jumped right back into their genetics project they were introduced to yesterday.  Today, students used the information they developed yesterday in class about the genotype and phenotypes of their mother and father characters to develop Punnett Squares for each of the six individual traits.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students continued the conversation on prime and composite numbers.  Today students were learning about the differences between factors and multiples.  Students are working towards being able to find the LCM (least common multiple) or two or more numbers.  Students were asked to come to class on Thursday with the definition of LCM written in their own words, and at least two examples to illustrate their definition.   

Assignments:   Review Homework #34 is due Thursday in class.  

Science: Students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students jumped right back into their genetics project they were introduced to yesterday.  Today, students used the information they developed yesterday in class about their chosen Spongebob character to create the genetic profiles (genotypes and phenotypes) of their Father and Mother characters for their individual projects.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students continued learning more about prime and composite numbers.  Students today were learning about how to find equivalent fractions and then converting a given fraction into simplest form.   After some teacher led instruction, and several examples, students were assigned some problems from the book page 185 #12-27 odds as homework, to be due Wednesday in class.  

Assignments:  Review Homework #33 is due Wednesday in class.  The book work from page 185 #12-27 odds are due Wednesday in class.

Science: Students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students were introduced to the next project, the Bikini Bottom Genetics Project.  Students were given the opportunity to choose one of seven characters from the SpongeBob SquarePants show to use as their character they will model their family drawing around.  Students should come to class tomorrow with the six physical traits of their chosen characters.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students continued learning more about prime and composite numbers.  Students today were introduced to another method of finding the GCF by using the prime factorization of the numbers or monomials in question.  Students also learned how to identify relatively prime numbers.  After some teacher led instruction, and several examples, students were assigned the section 4.2 worksheet as homework, to be due Wednesday in class.   Student can expect a quiz on Wednesday as well.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students continued learning more about prime and composite numbers.  Students today were learning about how to find the GCF (greatest common factor) of two or more numbers using the method of listing out the factors of each number in question and circling the greatest common factor in each list.  After some teacher led instruction and a few example problems, students were assigned some book work, page 179 # 12-18, to be due Tuesday in class.

Assignments:  Review Homework #33 is due Wednesday in class.  The book work, page 179 #12-18 is due Tuesday in class.

Science: Students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students jumped back into our activity from Friday's class where we were interpreting data to determine dominant and recessive traits of the students in our class.  Today students determined their own unique trait identification number from a circle of traits.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students began learning more about prime and composite numbers.  Students graded the chapter 3 tests, before we continued our class discussion on the Sieve of Erathostenes.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students continued the conversation on prime and composite numbers.  Students were then assigned some book work, and given about 25 minutes of class time to get started and hopefully finish, in class page 164 #1-17, to be due Friday in class.

Science: Students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students jumped into chapter 3 section 1 on Gregor Mendel's Work with genetics.  Students defined several key vocabulary words, before we read section 1 together in class.  The section 1 worksheet was assigned as homework and will be due Friday in class.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students began learning more about prime and composite numbers.  Students watched a quick film on the Sieve of Eratosthenes, before they began filling in their own Sieve worksheet.  We will pick up on this concept tomorrow in class.

Assignments:  Review Homework #32 is due Friday in class.   

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students continued the conversation on prime and composite numbers.  Factors were also introduced and students spent much of the class period working with factors and describing and working with factors of several numbers.

Science: Students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students graded the chapter 2 tests together, before we began talking about Gregor Mendel and the idea of modern genetics.  Students defined several key vocabulary words, and we ended class by discussing the four nitrogen bases and what each pairs with in the DNA replication process.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students who were NOT taking the NAEP assessment, (there was only six of them!) finished their chapter 3 tests, and then completed a chapter 3 notebook check.   

Assignments:  Review Homework #31 is due Wednesday in class.   

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students began learning about prime and composite numbers.  Students watched a short little film about the Sieve of Eratosthenes, and then they began filling in and coloring their own prime number chart between 1 and 200.  

Assignments:   Review Homework #31 is due Wednesday in class. Students were also assigned their chapter 3 test corrections.  

**Any student who comes to class on Wednesday without their completed test corrections, will be given an after school detention on Wednesday, so they can finish their corrections then.  

Science: Students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students took the chapter 2 test on photosynthesis, respiration, the cell cycle and cancer.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students participated in a chapter 3 notebook check.  Students filled out a form where they counted up their Do Nows, flashmaster activities, and homework assignments throughout chapter 3 in order to receive a grade for the organization of their math notebooks.  

Assignments:   Review Homework #31 is due Wednesday in class. 

Science: Students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students spent the class period preparing for the chapter 2 test on Photosynthesis, Respiration, Cell Division and Cancer.  The test will be on Tuesday.
