7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Students then jumped back into chapter 10, and today students were introduced to polygons and quadrilaterals.  Students learned how to classify polygons based on number of sides, as well as by the measure of the interior angles.  After some teacher led instruction, and several example problems, students were assigned the 10.2 worksheet as homework, to be due Friday in class.  

Assignments:   Students are to complete the 10.2 worksheet for class on Friday.  Students can expect a brief quiz on triangles polygons on Friday in class.  

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.   Students then jumped back into taking notes on section 4.7 on scientific notation.   Students practiced converting numbers from standard form into product form and then into scientific notation.  They also practiced converting from scientific notation into standard form.       

Assignments:  Students were assigned problems from their at home text books, p. 209  # 13-29 Odds only.  

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Students were introduced to probability in genetics  and Punnett squares and how punnett squares are useful in predicting the outcomes when crossing two plants, etc.   We then read section 2 of chapter 3 in the Cells and Heredity text book on probability in genetics.  

Assignments:   None.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Students then jumped back into chapter 10 section one on solving problems involving triangles.  We completed taking notes on several different example problems, before students were assigned the 10.1 worksheet as homework.  Students were given about 15 minutes of class time to begin working on the assignment, before we went down to the computer lab and students were given about 20 minutes to log into their Study Island accounts to begin working with their individualized learning programs developed from their MAPs RIT scores.  

Assignments:   Students are to complete the 10.1 worksheet for class on Thursday.

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  We then graded the 4.6 worksheet that was homework, before we jumped into taking notes on section 4.7 on scientific notation.  Students were introduced to standard form, product form, and scientific notation.  We practiced a few problems together, before we all went down to the computer lab, where students were given about 20 minutes of class time to begin working with their individualized learning programs developed from the MAPs RIT scores.       

Assignments:  None.

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Students participated in a class survey today, where they were trying to determine whether physical traits in individuals are controlled with dominant or recessive alleles.  Students then answered several questions to gauge their understanding of dominant and recessive genes.  

Assignments:    Students should be completing their class surveys they began in class if they did not complete it in class.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Students then took a surprise quiz on decimals, percents and fractions.  Next, students were informed that their MAPs RIT scores were entered into the Study Island website, and that from now on, students will be expected to spend at least 30 minutes a week on the site, working on their individualized learning plans developed by the Study Island site based on each students MAP scores.  We finished class by working on some practice SBA problems.  

Assignments:   Students are to be logging into their Study Island accounts as homework this evening. 

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  We then reviewed the rules for multiplying and dividing powers, before we finished taking notes on negative and zero exponents.  After some teacher led instruction and several example problems, students were assigned the section 4.6 worksheet (odds Only) as homework and were given about 15 minutes of class time to get started.     

Assignments:  The section 4.6 worksheet (odds only) is due Wednesday in class.  

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Students picked up talking about the factors that control the inheritance of traits in organisms that we ended class yesterday.  After a group discussion reviewing dominant and recessive alleles, students worked in table groups to answer three key questions regarding the inheritance of traits in offspring.  

Assignments:    Students were handed the section 3.1 worksheet on Gregor Mendel's studies of genetics.  It is due Wednesday in class.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  We then jumped into geometry and chapter 10.  Today students began learning about and solving problems involving triangles.  After some teacher led instruction and several example problems, students were assigned homework from their at home text books, pages 513-514 # 1-17, to be due on Tuesday in class.

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Students were introduced to the concept of genetics and heredity today in class.  Students defined several key vocabulary terms, before we read section 1 of chapter 3 in class as a group.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  7th Graders blocked with Mr. Olsen this morning as all 8th went to the UAS Apprenticeship Fair.  Next,  students spent about 10 minutes of review time, going over their foldables students made to help them memorize their fractions and their decimal and percent equivalents.  We then took the Fraction Finding Mission Test.  We then transitioned into section 7 of chapter 7 and completed the notes and students then spent about 25 minutes of class time completing the section 7 worksheet, that we in turn graded in class.  After we graded the the section 7 worksheet, we jumped into some PI day activities, designed for students to put together the relationship of a sphere's circumference to its diameter.   

Assignments:   Students are taking the chapter 7 test tomorrow in class.   

8th Grade Math:  8th graders did not have math today, as all 8th graders attended the UAS Apprenticeship Fair.  

Assignments:  None. 

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  We blocked our afternoon today, thus, Mr. Olsen's class spent two hours with Mr. Olsen in science.  We spent our class period working within our Local Ecology Project groups, organizing and graphing the data collected so far, as well as organizing all of the pictures taken since November.  

Assignments:    All students Mitosis Flip books are due Friday in class.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next,  we transitioned back into chapter 7.  Today students were introduced to section 7 on calculating interest earned and finding account balances.  Today we focused on calculating the interest earned by using the Interest formula.  

Assignments:   Students are taking a fraction, decimal, and percent test on Thursday in class (Fraction Finding Mission).  

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Today we jumped in to section 5 on multiplying and dividing powers.  Students reviewed the parts included with powers, including bases, and exponents.  We then discussed the rules associated with multiplying exponents with the same base.  Students will not have math on Thursday due to the UAS Apprenticeship Fair field trip scheduled for 8th graders from 845am until 11am.  

Assignments:  Study Island Review Homework #36 is due Wednesday by the end of the day.  

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  We blocked our afternoon today, thus, Mr. Sheufelt's class spent two hours with Mr. Olsen in science.  We spent our class period working within our Local Ecology Project groups, organizing and graphing the data collected so far, as well as organizing all of the pictures taken since November.  Thursday Mr. Olsen's homebase will have a two hour science block.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next,  we transitioned back into chapter 7.  Today students jumped back into how to find markups, discounts, sales tax, and tips.  After some teacher led instruction, and several example problems of each problem type, students were assigned the 7.6 worksheet, and given about 15 minutes of class time to get started.  

Assignments:   Study Island Review Homework #33 is due on Wednesday by the end of school.  The section 7.6 worksheet is due Wednesday in class.  

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Today we jumped in to section 4 on finding the least common multiple of two or more number or monomials.  Students worked with finding the LCD of fractions in order to compare and order them.  We practiced finding the LCM of the denominators, and then converting our original fractions into equivalent fractions in order to compare them and order them from least to greatest.  Students were then assigned the 4.4 worksheet and given about 25 minutes of class time to get started.  

Assignments:  Study Island Review Homework #36 is due Wednesday by the end of the day.  The section 4.4 worksheet is due Wednesday in class.   

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  We then transitioned back into cell division.  Today students were given one final work day to complete their mitosis flipbook rough drafts, and to begin putting together their final drafts in order to meet the Friday deadline.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next,  we transitioned back into chapter 7.  Today students jumped back into how to find the percent of change in a quantity.  After some teacher led instruction and several example problems, students were completed the back side of the 7.5 worksheet.  Next, students were briefly introduced to section 6 on finding markups, discounts, sales tax, and tips.  We will pick up with section 6 Tuesday in class.  Students were assigned five problems from the book as homework, p. 360 #8-13, to be due Tuesday in class.  

Assignments:   Study Island Review Homework #33 is due on Wednesday by the end of school.  Five problems from page 360 in the textbook (#8-13) are due Tuesday in class.  

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Today we jumped in to section 4 on finding the least common multiple of two or more number or monomials.  Students transitioned back into using the two methods of finding the LCM, one was just listing the multiples of each number in question, while method 2 has students factoring each number down to its prime factorization, and multiplying each common factor together to find the LCM.   

Assignments:  Study Island Review Homework #36 is due Wednesday by the end of the day.  Students should also be completing quiz corrections from the quiz last Friday.  Corrections are due Tuesday in class.  

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  We then transitioned back into cell division.  Today students were introduced to our next project, a mitosis flip book.  Students will be detailing each stage and phase of the cell cycle in an illustrated flip book.  Students were given  class time to continue working on a rough draft, or begin their final draft of their flip book.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next,  we transitioned back into chapter 7.  Today students learned how to find the percent of change in a quantity.  After some teacher led instruction and several example problems, students were assigned the front side only of the 7.5 worksheet.  

Assignments:   The section 7.5 worksheet (front side only)  is due on Friday in class.  Students can expect a quiz on the first four sections of chapter 7 on Friday in class.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next,  we transitioned back into chapter 7.  Today students learned to use equations to solve percent problems with the percent equation.  After several examples and some teacher instruction, students were assigned the 7.4 worksheet, to be due Thursday in class.  

Assignments:   The section 7.4 worksheet is due on Thursday in class.

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Today we jumped back in to section 3 on finding equivalent fractions and simplifying fractions and monomials.  Students learned how to find equivalent fractions by either multiplying or dividing both the numerator and denominator of a fraction by the same nonzero number.  Students also learned about putting fractions into simplest form by reducing the fractions by dividing out the GCF of the numerator and denominator.  Students were then assigned the 4.3 worksheet for homework and given about 15 minutes of class time to get started.  

Assignments:  The section 4.3 worksheet will be due Thursday in class.   

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  We then transitioned back into cell division.  Today students took notes on a powerpoint detailing the six steps within the cell division process.  Students learned the names of each stage or phase, as well as the events occurring during each stage or phase of the cell division process.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next,  we transitioned back into chapter 7.  Today students learned to use decimals to find the percent of a number.  After several examples and some teacher instruction, students were assigned the 7.3 worksheet, to be due Wednesday in class.  

Assignments:   The section 7.3 worksheet is due on Wednesday in class.

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Today we jumped  back in to section 2 on finding the greatest common factor of two or more monomials.  Students learned how to factor out the number part of a monomial down to its prime factorization, before listing all of the variable parts of the monomial.  They then circled the factors that are in common, including variables, before finding the GCF.    Students were assigned some book work as homework, p. 185 #12-19, to be due Wednesday in class.  

Assignments:  The book work from page 185 #12-19 are due Wednesday in class.  

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Students then joined up with their Local Ecology group members, and the groups went outside to our Local Ecology plots to record air and soil temperatures as well as to make several observations of the changes that have taken place since our last visits to the plots.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next,  we transitioned back into chapter 7.  Today students learned to use proportions to find the percent of a number.  After several examples and some teacher instruction, students were assigned the 7.2 worksheet, to be due Tuesday in class.  

Assignments:   The section 7.2 worksheet is due on Tuesday in class.

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Today we jumped back in to section 2 on finding the greatest common factor of two or more numbers.  Students learned about two different methods to find a GCF, including listing all the factors of the numbers in question, and finding the prime factorization of each of the numbers and multiplying together the common factors.  Students were assigned the 4.2 worksheet to be due Tuesday in class.  

Assignments:  The section 4.2 worksheet is due Tuesday in class.  

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Students then read and answered questions about mitosis, the cell division process.  Students defined several key vocabulary words and learned about the phases of cell division.  

Assignments:    The section 2.3 worksheet on cell division will be due on Tuesday in class.  Students can also expect to spend Tuesday's class period outside at their Local Ecology Plots.  Students should come to school prepared to be outside in wet, muddy conditions.  Proper footwear is highly recommended!
