7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students celebrated Halloween by working through some spooky halloween related problems and puzzles.  Our class was interrupted by the big assembly, honoring our principal Mrs. Yerkes, as one of the educators of the year!  Congratulations Mrs. Yerkes!!   Students can expect a quiz on Friday covering solving equations.   

Assignments:  Review Homework #17 is due Friday in class.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, students celebrated Halloween by completing several halloween related problems and puzzles, if students were all caught up with any late work.  Students can expect a quiz on Friday covering operations involving integers.

Assignments:  Review Homework #17 is due Friday in class. 

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students learned about feedback loops and how these loops are affecting the planet.  Students broke into numbered groups to collaborate about an assigned feedback loop, and then in turn they "taught" the rest of their classmates about the important concepts being shared concerning that feedback loop.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students jumped right back into chapter 3.  We began class by reviewing the rules of signs as well as how to solve two step equations.  We then continued solving equations with variables on both sides of the equal sign.  Students felt we needed to spend a bit more time working with variables on both sides of the equal sign, so we spent class going over several example problems together, before students were assigned problems from their at home text books, page 134, #11-25, to be due on Thursday in class.  

Assignments:  Students were assigned problems from their at home text books, page 134, #11-25, to be due on Thursday in class.  Review Homework #17 is due Friday in class.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, students jumped back into chapter one.  Today students reviewed the rules associated with multiplying and dividing integers.  We spent the majority of class discussing and practicing the rules of multiplying or dividing with the same and different signs.  Students were assigned several problems from their at home text books, page 45, #12-24, to be due Thursday in class.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students jumped right back into chapter 3.  We began class by reviewing the rules of signs as well as how to solve two step equations.  We then started solving equations with variables on both sides of the equal sign.

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students reflected on the "Chasing Ice" film we watched last week.  We also spent some time discussing how glaciers form and the importance of glaciers to the world we live in.  

Assignments:  Our science classes will be taking a field trip to the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.  Mr. Sheufelt's class will be going to the glacier on Tuesday and Mr. Olsen's class will visit the glacier on Wednesday.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students jumped right back into chapter 3.  We began class by reviewing the rules of signs as well as how to solve two step equations.  We then started solving equations by using the distributive property, and combining like terms before solving.  After some teacher led instruction, and several example problems, students were assigned the section 3.2 worksheet for homework.     

Assignments:  The section 3.2 worksheet is due Friday in class.  Review Homework #15 is due Friday in class.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students jumped right into chapter 3.  We began class by reviewing the quiz on simplifying expressions students took on Tuesday.  We then jumped into taking notes on solving equations using the distributive property.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students jumped right into chapter 3.  We began class by reviewing the rules of solving two step equations we learned about yesterday, before we completed the notes of solving equations with negative coefficients.  Students were assigned the section 3.1 worksheet as homework to be due Wednesday in class.  Students ended class with a pop quiz on simplifying expressions.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students jumped right into chapter 3.  We began class by reviewing one step equations we learned about in chapter 2, before students were introduced to solving two step equations using either subtraction and division or addition and multiplication.  After some teacher led instruction and several example problems, students were assigned problems from their at home text books, page 122-123 # 1-13.   

Assignments:  Students were assigned problems from their at home text books, page 122-123 # 1-13 to be due Tuesday in class.  Review Homework #14 is due Wednesday in class.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, students jumped back into chapter one.  Today students took notes on adding integers.  There are rules associated with adding integers with the same signs, different signs and adding opposites.  Students reviewed these rules and learned a song in order to help them remember the rules associated with adding integers with same signs and different signs.

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students graded the dry ice tests.  We then participated in a gallery walk of Dry Ice Investigation posters.  Students had to select their favorite investigation, as well as the one they felt needed more work.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, students jumped back into chapter one.  Today students began reviewing the key vocabulary words we defined yesterday, before we finished taking notes on comparing and ordering integers.  After some teacher led instruction and several example problems, students were assigned the section 1.4 worksheet as homework (evens only).

Assignments:  The section 1.4 worksheet (evens only) is due Thursday in class.

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, student participated in a Dry Ice review activity in order to help them be better prepared the the Dry Ice unit test on Thursday.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students jumped back into chapter 2.  Today students reviewed the rules of adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing decimals.  Students were then introduced to solving equations that include decimal operations.  After a bit of teacher led instruction and several example problems, students were assigned the section 2.7 worksheet as homework.  

Assignments:  The problems assigned the section 2.7 worksheet to be due Wednesday in class.  Review Homework #13 is due on Wednesday in class.  Students can expect the chapter 2 Test on Thursday.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, students jumped back into chapter one.  Today students began by defining several key vocabulary words, before we jumped into comparing and ordering integers.

Students continued solving equations by using the opposite operation of the one being used in the original equation.  After some teacher led instruction and several example problems, students were assigned the section 2.6 worksheet as homework, due Tuesday in class. 

Assignments:  The problems assigned the section 2.6 worksheet to be due Tuesday in class.  Review Homework #13 is due on Wednesday in class.  Students can expect the chapter 2 Test on Thursday.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students jumped back into chapter one.  Today students reviewed the order of operations.  After some teacher led instruction and several example problems, students were assigned the 1.3 worksheet (odds only) to be due Tuesday in class.

Assignments:  Students were assigned the section 1.3 worksheet (odds only) to be due Tuesday in class.  Review Homework #13 is due Wednesday in class.

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students were given about 10 minutes of class time to put some final touches on their poster projects, before their evaluated their own work throughout the project, as well as their partners work.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students jumped back into chapter one.  Today students were introduced to developing a problem solving plan or strategy in order to help them tackle word problems.  Students took notes on their plans, and then practiced using the plans on a challenging word problem.

Assignments:  Review Homework #12 is due Friday in class.  Students can expect a quiz on expressions, powers and variables Friday in class.

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students had another work day to begin putting together their Dry Ice Investigation posters.  Friday will be the final day of class time to work on their group posters.   

Assignments:  Students can be continuing to type up their lab write ups, as the final poster products will be due by Monday October 14th.

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students completed the typing of their Dry Ice Investigations lab reports.   Some student groups were able to begin putting their posters together.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students jumped back into chapter 2.  Today we began working with verbal expressions and converting them into equations.  We then began working on solving the equations for the variable involved.  After some teacher led instruction and several example problems, students were assigned the section 2.4 worksheet as homework.  

Assignments:  The section 2.4 worksheet is due Wednesday in class.  Review Homework #11 is due on Wednesday in class.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students jumped back into chapter one.  Today students reviewed the rules associated with powers and exponents before we practiced several examples as a group.  Students were then assigned the section 1.2 worksheet as homework and given about 35 minutes of class time to get themselves started.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students jumped back into chapter one.  Today students reviewed the area formulas for squares and rectangles, and the volume formula for cubes.  We then practiced identifying and using these formulas with several example problems.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students jumped back into chapter 2.  Today students defined several important vocabulary words, terms, like terms, coefficients and constants.  We then practiced identifying the individual parts of expressions as well as simplifying variable expressions.  After some teacher led instruction and several example problems, students were assigned some problems from their at home text books.   

Assignments:  Students were assigned problems #1-9 from page 80 in their at home text books, to be due Thursday in class.  Review Homework #10 is due on Friday in class.  

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students jumped back into chapter one.  Today students were introduced to powers and exponents.  We reviewed important vocabulary, and practiced identifying these parts of equations.  After some teacher led instruction and several examples, students were assigned some homework (page 12 in the text book, #1-6, to be due Thursday in class.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students jumped back into chapter 2.  Today students picked back up with the distributive property.  In class, we reviewed the rules associated with adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing integers with same and different signs, before practicing several examples of writing equivalent numerical and equivalent variable expressions.   

Assignments:  Students were assigned the section 2.2 worksheet as homework to be due Wednesday in class.  Review Homework #9 is due on Wednesday in class.   

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students jumped back into chapter one on evaluating and writing variable expressions.  We reviewed several important vocabulary words and practiced substituting and evaluating variable expressions.  Students were then assigned the section 1.1 worksheet and given about 25 minutes of class time to begin the assignment.       

Assignments:   The section 1.1 worksheet is due Wednesday in class.  Review Homework #9 is due Wednesday in class. 
     
Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students began planning their own dry ice investigations.  Today students needed to complete their group's materials list and a detailed procedures list in order to be prepared to conduct their investigations tomorrow (Wednesday) in class.   

Assignments:  Students should be putting the final touches on their procedures list for their investigations they will be conducting on Wednesday in class.
