Algebra I: Today in math students began class with a Do Now and a set of warm up problems, before students jumped into chapter 3 and working with functions.  Mr. Olsen led students through a lesson on horizontal and vertical stretches and shrinks. Students watched a youtube clip where we dissected how to stretch or shrink a graph.  We then practiced several problems together in class, identifying the presentation format and what clues to look for when deciding what type of transformation is occurring within the given problem. Students were then assigned homework from the text book, page 152 #29, 31, 34, 35-38, to be due on Wednesday in class.

7th Grade Math: Students began class with a Do Now and several Flashmaster activities, before students transitioned into chapter 2 and rational numbers.  Students then were practicing comparing and ordering a given list of fractions and decimals.  Next, students were given class time to work on the section 2.3 Practice A worksheet, which will be due on Wednesday in class.

Assignments: Review Homework #18 is due on Wednesday.  The section 2.3 Practice A worksheet is due on Wednesday in class.

Science:  Students began class with the Do Now. Next, students participated in a class discussion on why failure is so important in science.  Students then got back into their groups from Monday to come up with a rule for a pattern, which they then shared with another group of class mates to see if another group could solve their pattern and identify the "rule" being put forth by the other group.

Algebra I: Today in math students began class with a Do Now and a set of warm up problems, before students jumped into chapter 3 and working with functions.  Students then went over the homework (section 3.5 Practice B) before we began a conversation on translations and reflections.  Students were reminded of the definitions for the vocabulary, before students were asked to begin working on the workbook activities for section 3.6 (pages 84-86) to be due on Wednesday in class.

7th Grade Math: Students began class with a Do Now and several Flashmaster activities, before students transitioned into chapter 2 and rational numbers.  Students then were practicing comparing and ordering a given list of fractions and decimals.  Next, we began working on the activities for section 2.2 on adding rational numbers.  After a bit of teacher led instruction, students were asked to complete activities 1 & 2 on pages 29 and 30 of the practice workbook for class on Wednesday.

Science:  Students began class with the Do Now. Student groups that didn't present on Monday, presented their investigation results to their classmates.  Next, students were handed a Dry Ice Unit review sheet and given class time to begin answering the questions and filling out the sheet to help them prepare for the test on Thursday.

Algebra I: Today in math students began class with a Do Now and a set of warm up problems, before students jumped into chapter 3 and working with functions.  Students then went over the workbook homework we completed over the extended weekend.  Next, we jumped back into section 3.5 on describing the equation 
y = mx + b.  After some teacher led instruction and several examples of calculating slope from a given equation, a given table and from a line on a graph, students were handed the section 3.5 Practice B worksheet, to be due on Tuesday in class.

Science:  Students began class with the Do Now. Students groups then met as a group and prepared and practiced before presenting their results to their classmates.

Algebra I: Today in math students began class with a Do Now and a set of warm up problems, before students jumped into chapter 3 and working with functions.  Students then reviewed function notation, before we our homework from Monday evening (section 3.4 practice A worksheet).  Next, we jumped into section 3.5 on describing the equation y = mx + b.  Students were given class time to begin working on the activities in their practice workbooks.  Workbook pages 79-83 will be due upon our return to school next Monday.

Algebra I: Today in math students began class with a Do Now and a set of warm up problems, before students jumped into chapter 3 and working with functions.  Students then reviewed function notation, and we graded/reviewed the homework from Wednesday evening in order to be sure students understand the concepts before we transitioned into section 3.4 on graphing functions.  Students were assigned page 74 (activity #1) of the practice workbook, to be due Friday in class.

7th Grade Math: Students began class with a Do Now and several Flashmaster activities, before students transitioned into chapter 2 and rational numbers.  We spent todays class period playing a fraction and decimal game in pairs.  The game is similar to "war" and students picked up on the directions quickly.

Science:  Students began class with the Do Now. Students then continued our discussion on observations in science.  We then transitioned back into their assigned dry ice experiment groups, and students were compiling all of their data, observations and results collected during our experiments from last week, into a detailed group lab report.  Students spent today's class period finishing up the typing of  lab report on Google Docs.  

The poster project is due on Tuesday October 17th.

Assignments: Review HW #14 is due Friday in class.  Students should be completing the dividing fractions worksheet if they did not finish it in the class time provided for class on Thursday.  

Science:  Students began class with the Do Now. Students then continued our discussion on observations in science.  We then transitioned back into their assigned dry ice experiment groups, and students were compiling all of their data, observations and results collected during our experiments from last week, into a detailed group lab report.  Students spent today's class period typing up the lab report on Google Docs.

7th Grade Math: Students began class with a Do Now and several Flashmaster activities, before students transitioned into chapter 2 and rational numbers.  We spent todays class period reviewing how to cross cancel when multiplying fractions.  Next, we transitioned back into dividing fractions.  Students practiced several problems, before being handed a worksheet and given class time to begin practicing dividing fractions.  The front side of the worksheet is due on Wednesday in class.

Assignments: Review HW #13 is due Wednesday in class.  Students were then asked to complete the front side of a dividing fractions worksheet for class on Wednesday.

Science:  Students began class with the Do Now. Students then continued our discussion on observations in science.  We then transitioned back into their assigned dry ice experiment groups, and students were compiling all of their data, observations and results collected during our experiments from last week, into a detailed group lab report.  Students spent today's class period completing their detailed group lab report.  Once the lab report was signed off by Mr. Olsen, student groups began typing up the lab report on Google Docs.

Algebra I: Today in math students began class with a Do Now and a set of warm up problems, before students jumped into chapter 3 and working with functions.  We graded/reviewed our homework from Tuesday.  Students then transitioned back into section 2 and reviewed identifying functions by using tables, graphs, and equations. We then went over the quiz from last Friday, where students were allowed to collaborate with their table mates, and then ask questions of Mr. Olsen to clarify.  Next, we spent time going over the homework assignment that is due on Tuesday in class.  The section 3.2 Enrichment and Extension assignment has students working with a real life linear equation example, riding in and calculating a taxi fare.  We worked together to develop a linear function to help students get started on the work.

7th Grade Math: Students began class with a Do Now and several Flashmaster activities, before students transitioned into chapter 2 and rational numbers.  We spent todays class period reviewing how to cross cancel when multiplying fractions.  Next, we transitioned into dividing fractions.  Students copied some notes down on the steps to follow when dividing fractions, before we practiced several examples together.  Students were then asked to complete four (4) dividing fractions and/or mixed numbers for homework, to be due on Tuesday in class.

Algebra I: Today in math students began class with a Do Now and a set of warm up problems, before students jumped into chapter 3 and working with functions.  We graded/reviewed our homework from Monday, before students practiced a few word problems, where they were identifying the independent variable (the x term, or the input) and the dependent variable (the y term, or the output) before describing the domain and range of the scenario.  Students then transitioned into section 2 on identifying functions by using tables, graphs, and equations.  Students were assigned the practice workbook activities for section 3.2 (WB pages 64-66, to be due on Wednesday in class).

Students then continued our discussion on observations in science.  We then transitioned back into their assigned dry ice experiment groups, and students were continuing the planning process for the upcoming experiments.
