Algebra I: Today in math students began class with a Do Now and a set of warm up problems, before we graded our homework.  Next, students continued working with absolute value equations.  After a bit of teacher led instruction and class discussion, students were assigned some homework in the text book, pages 32 & 33 #20; 21; 23; 25; 31; 33; 35; 37; 39; 43.  These problems will be due on Friday in class.  

Students can expect a quiz on Friday in class as well.

7th Grade Math: Students began class with a Do Now and several Flashmaster activities, before students continued our conversation on note-taking strategies we began on Tuesday. Students then began working on workbook pages 1 & 2 in class. This assignment had students working with integers and various operations.  We reviewed several key vocabulary words and how to combine like terms, before we ran out of class time.

Students can expect a quiz on whole number operations in class on Friday.

Assignments: Review Homework #3 is due on Friday in class. 

Science:  Students began class with the Do Now. Students then continued our discussion on the difference between observations and inferences in science.  Students then practiced their abilities in determining whether a given scenario was based on observations or inferences.

Assignments:  None.

Algebra I: Today in math students began class with a Do Now and a set of warm up problems, before we graded our homework.  Next, students continued working with absolute value equations.  After a bit of teacher led instruction and class discussion, students were assigned some homework in the practice workbook (pages 20-21 #1-9).  These problems will be due on Thursday in class.

7th Grade Math: Students began class with a Do Now and several Flashmaster activities, before students continued our conversation on note-taking strategies we began on Tuesday. Students were introduced to (or in some cases, reviewed) what Cornell Notes are and how to use them effectively to find success in the classroom.  Students watched a video entitled "Take Note of what you wrote" before we had a class discussion on how to summarize the important information presented during a class period.

Assignments: Review Homework #3 is due on Friday in class. 

Science:  Students began class with the Do Now. Students then turned in their Scientific Summer projects.  Next, students completed a self evaluation of their work habits during this project.  We then transitioned into determining the differences between observations and inferences in science.

Algebra I: Today in math students began class with a Do Now and a set of warm up problems, before we graded our homework.  Next, students began working with absolute value equations.  After a bit of teacher led instruction and class discussion, students were given class time to begin working on the section 1.4 activities in the practice workbook (pages 17-19).  These activities will be due on Wednesday in class.

Assignments: Students were assigned the section 1.4 workbook activities (pages 17-19) to be due on Wednesday in class.

7th Grade Math: Students began class with a Do Now and several Flashmaster activities, before students were introduced to absolute value.  Next, students began talking about note-taking strategies.  Students participated in table group discussions, as well as a whole class discussion on what it means to be a good note taker.   

Assignments: Review Homework #2 is due on Wednesday in class. 

Science:  Students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students were using the class period to complete their Scientific Summer projects.  

Assignments:  The Scientific Summer project is due on Wednesday August 30th at the beginning of class.

Algebra I: Today in math students began class with a Do Now and a set of warm up problems, before we graded our homework.  Students then were solving multi-step equations with variables on both sides of the equal sign in section 1.3.  After some teacher led instruction and several example problems, students were assigned the section 1.3 Practice B worksheet, to be due on Tuesday in class.

7th Grade Math: Students began class with a Do Now and several Flashmaster activities, before students were introduced to absolute value.  After some teacher led instruction, and a group worksheet, that we completed in class.  Students were then handed a section 1.1 Practice A worksheet, which will be due on Tuesday in class.

Assignments: Review Homework #2 is due on Wednesday in class.  The section 1.1 Practice A worksheet is due Tuesday in class.

Science:  Students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students were using the class period to type up their scientific summer paragraphs, in order to be prepared to put their final product together on Tuesday in class.  

Assignments: Students should be coming into class on Tuesday ready to put together the final product for the Scientific Summer project.  The project is due on Wednesday August 30th at the beginning of class.

Algebra I: Today in math students began class with a Do Now and a set of warm up problems, before we graded our homework.  Students then were solving multi-step equations in section 1.2.  After some teacher led instruction and several example problems, students were assigned some homework from the text book, pages 16-17 #10; 14-16; 18-34 evens; 35.  These problems will be due on Friday in class.

The signed Algebra class syllabus is due on Friday.

7th Grade Math: Students began class with a Do Now and several Flashmaster activities, before students were introduced to the text book.  Students completed a chapter 1 textbook scavenger hunt today in class.  Also, the signed syllabus for 7th grade Math is due on Friday in class.  

Assignments: Review Homework #1 is due on Friday in class.

Science:  Students did not have science today, as in the morning students took the Math MAPs test.  Then after lunch, students had Math and Language Arts instead of Social Studies and Science.  Friday's schedule will be back to normal.  

The science class syllabus is due on Friday in class, and should be signed by both the students and their parents or guardians.  

Assignments: Students should be coming into class on Friday with their first paragraph rough drafts for the Scientific Summer project written out in their notebooks.

Science:  Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Students were then introduced to the first project of the year in science, the Scientific Summer.  Students were handed a directional sheet and a scoring guide on expectations for the project, before the students bubble mapped their summer activities in order to choose one activity for this project.  Students should be coming into class on Wednesday with their summer activity chosen.

Algebra I: Today in math students began class with a Do Now and a set of warm up problems, before students graded their homework from page 1 of the textbook.  We then jumped right into chapter 1 on solving equations using addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.  After some teacher led instruction and review, students were assigned some homework problems from the textbook, page 8 # 1-20, to be due Tuesday in class.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with a Do Now and a problem of the day.  Next, students were introduced to Flashmasters.  Students were assigned a specific machine, were shown how to use them and then given time to practice using them.  

Assignments: None.

Science:  Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Students were then introduced to a lesson on the different branches of science and what each of those branches might study.  After some teacher led instruction and several examples, students were given class time to complete the Branches of Science matching activity.

Assignments: Students need to be completing the Branches of Science matching activity if they did not finish in the class time provided.

Algebra I: Today in math students began class with a Do Now and a set of warm up problems, before students were introduced to the class and went through the class syllabus and expectations together digitally.  Next, students began working on the pre-course test. Students will complete the pre-course test on Friday in class. 

Assignments: Our district is looking to save some paper this school year, and students and families are being asked to log onto the DHMS school website, locate your students class syllabus located under the School Staff section (click on Mr. Olsen), print out the signature page and have your student bring that signature form into Mr. Olsen.  Students are to return their signed classroom and behavior expectations form by next Friday, August 25th. 

7th Grade Math: Today in math students were introduced to Mr. Olsen and spent some time getting to know their classmates. Students also went over the classroom and behavior expectations.
