7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day. Next, students were given about 15 minutes of class time to review their fractions, decimals and percent equivalents in preparation for the test on Friday.  Students were then introduced to section 6.7 on probability.  We didn't have too much class time to dig into the entire section, so after a bit of teacher led instruction, and a few example problems, students were assigned some problems from the text book, p. 808 #25-32, to be due Friday in class.        
   
Assignments:  Study Island Review Homework #13 is due by the end of the day on Friday.  The problems from p.808 in the text book, #25-32 are due Friday in class.        

*  This is the final evening for students to work on the Fraction Finding Mission projects.  They are due on Friday morning (2/28/2014). *   

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students were introduced to solving inequalities using addition and/or subtraction.  Students spent some time reviewing the rules of inequalities, before we practiced several examples together in class.  Students were then assigned the section 3.4 worksheet and asked to complete the odds for class on Friday.   

Assignments:  The section 3.4 worksheet (odds only) is due Friday in class.       

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students read section three, Acceleration as a class today.  Students learned how to calculate acceleration, as well as average acceleration, and how to define acceleration.  Students were assigned six acceleration word problems to practice, and they will be due Friday in class.     

Assignments:  The six acceleration problems assigned in class will be due Friday.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day. Next, students were given about 40 minutes of class time to work on, hopefully put some final touches on their Fraction Finding Missions.  Students then participated in a probability activity on an individual basis.  Students need to complete the activity and answer five questions on page 305 of the text book for class on Thursday.      
   
Assignments:  Study Island Review Homework #13 is due by the end of the day on Friday.  The probability activity from page 305 in the text book is due on Thursday in class.      

*  The Fraction Finding Mission.  This is the final week for this project.  It is due on Friday morning (2/28/2014). *   

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students were introduced to solving inequalities using addition and/or subtraction.  Students spent some time reviewing the rules of inequalities, before we practiced several examples together in class.  Students were assigned problems from the text book, page 141 #16, 20, 21, 23, 25, to be due Thursday in class.    

Assignments:  Problems on page 141 #16, 20, 21, 23, 25 are due Thursday in class.       

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students read section two, Slow Motion on Planet Earth, together as a class.  We discussed the relationship of the movements of the continents plates to the various motions they had measured in the speed challenge activity we spent the previous two days on.  Students were then handed the section 2 worksheet to do as homework.    

Assignments:  The section 2 worksheet on the Slow Motion on Planet Earth is due on Thursday in class.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day. Next, students were given about 15 minutes of class time to quiz each other on their fractions, decimals and percent equivalents (they have a test on these on Friday!).  Students were then introduced to using proportions to help with scale drawings.  After some teacher led instruction, and several example problems, students were assigned the 6.6 worksheet as homework, to be due on Wednesday in class.     
   
Assignments:  Study Island Review Homework #12 is due by the end of the day on Wednesday.  The section 6.6 worksheet is due Wednesday in class.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students were introduced to solving inequalities using addition and/or subtraction.  Students spent some time writing down the rules associated with inequalities and learning how to identify the four different inequalities they will be using in the next few sections.     

Assignments:  Review homework #9 is due Wednesday in class.     

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students completed the Speed Challenge activity we began on Monday in class.  When students completed their work, Mr. Olsen moved them into part two of the Speed Challenge.    

Assignments:  The Speed Challenge Part one worksheet is due at the beginning of class on Wednesday.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day. Next, students were given class time to work on their fraction finding missions.  Students also spent some class time reviewing their fraction, decimal and percent equivalents.  Students have a test on the f, d, and percents on Friday of this week. The fraction finding mission is also due on Friday of this week.     
   
Assignments:  Study Island Review Homework #12 is due by the end of the day on Wednesday.

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students participated in a Speed Challenge Lab.  Students worked in groups of four, and timed each other performing various motions over a set distance.  Students should be coming to class on Tuesday with their speed calculations completed on the front side of their worksheet.   

Assignments:  The speed calculation worksheet is due Friday in class.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day. Next, students jumped into section 6.5 on finding the unknown side lengths of similar figures.  After some teacher led instruction on indirect measurement, and several example problems, students were assigned the section 6.5 worksheet to be due Friday in class.  Students can expect a quiz on Friday concerning similar and congruent figures.    
   
Assignments:  The section 6.5 worksheet is due Friday in class.   

Students were also introduced to a month long project, The Fraction Finding Mission.  Students can be continuing to work on this project on their down time throughout the month.

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students read section one of the Forces, Motion and Energy text book on describing and measuring motion.  Students participated in a class discussion about the different types of motion and we then began calculating the speed of an object based on its distance traveled and the amount of time it took to get there.  Students were then handed a worksheet with five speed calculation problems, to be due Friday in class.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day. Next, students jumped back into section 6.4 on identifying similar and congruent figures.  We reviewed the definitions of similar and congruent, and how they apply within homework problems.  Students were then introduced to finding unknown side lengths of similar figures.  Students were reminded of the cross products property we learned earlier in the chapter, before a bit of teacher led instruction.  After a few example problems, students were assigned some problems from their at home text books.  
   
Assignments:  Review Homework #11 is due by Thursday in class on the Study Island website.  The problems on page 295 #1-4 and 6-9 are due Thursday in class.   

Students were also introduced to a month long project, The Fraction Finding Mission.  Students can be continuing to work on this project on their down time throughout the month.    

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students practiced solving equations with variables on both sides of the equal sign.  Students were then introduced to solving equations with no solution as well as equations that have all numbers as solutions.  After some teacher led instruction, and several example problems, students were assigned the section 3.3 worksheet, #1-15 odds (front side only).  

Assignments:  Review homework #8 is due Friday in class.  The section 3.3 worksheet #1-15 odds (front side only) is due Thursday in class.    

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students participated in a think, write, pair share activity, designed to introduce the next unit on physics.  Students answered some questions on the front side of the worksheet, shared their thoughts with a classmate and then read an article before answering some questions and again sharing their thoughts with the same classmate.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day. Next, students jumped into section 6.4 on identifying similar and congruent figures.  The students reviewed the methods of displaying lines, rays and segments, before some teacher led instruction and several examples of problems students will be working on in their homework.  The section 6.4 worksheet will be due on Wednesday.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, 8th grade students got to visit with Senator Lisa Murkowski from 10 until 11am today.

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students participated in a Mystery Element lab.  Students were given a chunk of a mystery element and they worked together to define the said mystery element.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day. Next, students began a review process of some basic geometry concepts.  We reviewed the correct notation for displaying lines, rays, segments, as well as angles and the measure of angles.  Students then participated in an investigation activity, before students were assigned some homework from their at home text books in order to complete the activity, on page 287, #1-4 for class on Wednesday. 
   
Assignments:  Review Homework #10 is due by Wednesday in class on the Study Island website.  The problems #1-4 on page 287 are due Wednesday in class.  

Students were also introduced to a month long project, The Fraction Finding Mission.  Students can be continuing to work on this project on their down time throughout the month.

Next, students were introduced to solving equations with variables on both sides of the equal sign.  After some teacher led instruction and a few examples, students were assigned four problems to attempt on their time, page 134 #11-14 to be due on Wednesday in class.   

Assignments:  Students should be completing the problems assigned from page 134, #11-14, to be due Wednesday in class.   

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Today was the chemistry unit test day!

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day. 7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day. Next, students began solving proportions by using the cross products property.  Students defined the cross products property, before we began a class discussion about the connections between proportions and fractions.  After some teacher led instruction and several example problems, students were assigned the 6.3 worksheet as homework.  Students can expect a quiz on ratios and proportions on Friday in class.            

Assignments:  Review Homework #9 is due by Friday in class on the Study Island website.  The section 6.3 WS is due Friday in class.  
Students were also introduced to a month long project last week, The Fraction Finding Mission.  Students can be continuing to work on this project on their down time throughout the month.

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Mr. Olsen's class had a two hour block in science today (Thursday).  Today students were learning about the significance of oxidation numbers, and how to calculate them.  Students were then introduced to ionic and covalent bonds.  After some teacher led instruction, and several examples of both ionic and covalent bonds, students were asked to complete a worksheet working out several ionic and covalent bonding situations for class on Friday.  

Assignments:  Students should be coming into class on Friday with the back side of the Ionic/Covalent Bonding worksheet completed.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day. Next, students were introduced to writing and solving proportions. Students were reminded that proportions are a comparison between two parts of a whole, and we practiced finding the missing value when working with two given proportions.  After some teacher led instruction and several example problems, students were assigned the section 6.2 worksheet as homework.          

Assignments:  Review Homework #9 is due by Friday in class on the Study Island website.  The section 6.2 WS is due Thursday in class.

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students were introduced to valence electrons, and how to read the periodic table in order to determine how many electron shells or orbitals an element may have, as well as how many valence electrons an element may have.  Students were handed an Atomic Basics worksheet, and were asked to come into class on Wednesday with the front side completed.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students completed the chapter 5 test.  Students were then introduced to ratios and equivalent ratios (chapter 6 section 1).  Students defined key vocabulary and we had a brief discussion of the three different ways to display ratios, or the comparison two items.   

Assignments:  Review Homework #8 is due by Wednesday in class on the Study Island website.     

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with a problem of the day.  We then continued working with and solving two step equations.  Today students were given about 40 minutes of class time to work on the solving several two step equations.  

Assignments:  Review Homework #6 is due Wednesday in class.   

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students were given the time mount their final element advertisements on the proper colored background paper, before displaying their ads on the periodic table we created in the hallway.  Students also completed a self evaluation of their work habits during this Selling the Elements project.
