8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, students jumped back into chapter 5 and today we reviewed dividing fractions and reciprocals, before transitioning into section seven on using the LCD to solve equations and inequalities.  Students learned some tips on how to clear fractions and decimals when solving equations and inequalities.  After some teacher led instruction and several examples, students were assigned the 5.7 worksheet. 

Assignments:    Review homework #11 is due Friday.  Students should be completing the 5.7 worksheet if they did not finish in the class time provided.  

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class by using their flashmasters.  Next, we transitioned into chapter 5.  We began our discussion by reviewing the rules for multiplying fractions and how to cross cancel when working with fractions.  We then transitioned into dividing fractions. After some teacher led instruction and several examples, students were assigned the 5.4 worksheet and given about 20 minutes of class time to work on the assignment. 

Assignments:  Review homework #11 is due Friday.  Students should be completing the 5.4 worksheet if they did not finish in the class time provided.

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students began learning about ancient models of the world.  Students reviewed the creation myths introduced to them yesterday and we then transitioned into our activity.  Students are creating a myth explaining how they would describe how the sun moves from the western sky back to the east before morning.

Assignments:     Students should be completing their rough draft of their creation myth for class on Thursday if they did not finish in the class time provided.

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, students jumped back into chapter 5 and today we reviewed dividing fractions and reciprocals, before transitioning into section six on the multiplicative inverse.  Students learned the definition of the multiplicative inverse and how to apply it in solving equations.  After some teacher led instruction, students were assigned the 5.6 worksheet and given 25 minutes of class time to complete the assignment. 

Assignments:    Review homework #10 is due Wednesday.  Students should be completing the 5.6 worksheet if they did not finish in the class time provided.  

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class by using their flashmasters.  Next, we transitioned into chapter 5.  We began our discussion by reviewing GCFs, LCMs and LCDs.  Next, students were introduced multiplying fractions.  Students were given the rules for multiplying fractions, (the product of the numerators over the product of the denominators) as well as being introduced to the concept of cross cancelling as a method of simplifying fractions.  After some teacher led instruction and several examples, students were assigned the 5.3 worksheet and given about 20 minutes of class time to work on the assignment. 

Assignments:  Review homework #10 is due Wednesday.  Students should be completing the 5.3 worksheet if they did not finish in the class time provided.

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students began learning about ancient models of the world.  Students watched a quick 8 minute film called "The Box of Daylight," in which they learned the Tlingit culture's creation myth.  We then had a class discussion about why a culture may come up with stories to validate how the moon, stars and the sun came into existence. 

Assignments:     None.

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, students jumped back into chapter 5 and today we reviewed multiplying fractions before grading the homework due today (5.4 worksheet).  We then transitioned into dividing fractions, and students took some notes, and practiced several examples, before the 5.5 worksheet was assigned for homework.

Assignments:    Students should be completing the 5.5 worksheet if they did not finish in the class time provided.  

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class by using their flashmasters.  Next, we transitioned into chapter 5.  We began our discussion by reviewing GCFs, LCMs and LCDs.  We also reviewed converting fractions into decimals and decimals into fractions.  Next, we reviewed adding and subtracting like and unlike fractions, before transitioning into adding and subtracting mixed numbers.  After some note taking, students practiced several example problems.   

Assignments:  None. 

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students began the evaluation process for the Selling the Elements project.  Today students evaluated the project as a whole, as well as their efforts throughout the project. 

Assignments:     None.

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, students jumped back into chapter 5 and today we reviewed adding and subtracting like fractions and graded our homework, before transitioning into adding and subtracting unlike fractions.  Students were introduced to the rules regarding finding the LCD, and proceeding to add or subtract the like fractions. 

Assignments:    Review homework #9 is due on Friday.   Students should be completing the 5.3 worksheet if they did not finish in the class time provided.  

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class by using their flashmasters.  Next, we transitioned into chapter 5.  We began our discussion by reviewing GCFs, LCMs and LCDs.  We also reviewed converting fractions into decimals and decimals into fractions.  Next, we began adding and subtracting like fractions. 

Assignments:   Review homework #9 is due on Friday.  Students should be completing the assignment of p. 222 in the textbook, problems #14-28 (evens only). 

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students continued working on the Selling the Elements project.  Today was the final class day to work on our projects. 

Assignments:     Students should be completing their element project at home this evening if they did not finish in the class time provided.

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, students jumped back into chapter 5 and today we were learning about adding and subtracting like fractions.  After some instruction and a few practice problems, students were assigned the 5.2 worksheet and asked to complete the even problems only. 

Assignments:    Review homework #9 is due on Friday.   Students should be completing the 5.2 worksheet if they did not finish in the class time provided.  

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students completed the chapter 4 test.

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students continued working on the rough drafts of their Selling the Elements project we have been working on for the past week.  The final draft is due at the beginning of class on Friday.

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, students began learning about rational numbers and reviewed how to convert fractions and mixed numbers into decimals and vice versa.  After some practice and review, the section 5.1 worksheet was assigned to students, and they were given about 20 minutes of class time to compete the assignment. 

Assignments:    Review homework #7 is due on Friday.   Students should be completing the 5.1 worksheet if they did not finish in the class time provided.  

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class by using their flashmasters.  Next, students jumped back into chapter four.  We reviewed the rules for converting fractions and mixed numbers into decimals, practiced several examples, before students were assigned the 4.7 worksheet and given 30 minutes of class time to complete the work. 

Assignments:   Review homework #7 is due on Friday.  The 4.7 worksheet is due on Friday morning. 

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students continued  researching their assigned element for the "Selling your Element" project that we are currently working on in science.

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, students took the chapter 4 math test. 

Assignments:    Review homework #6 is due on Wednesday.  

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class by using their flashmasters.  Next, students jumped back into chapter four.  We moved back into section 4.6 on comparing and ordering fractions and mixed numbers.  Students reviewed the definitions for a proper fraction, an improper fraction and how to convert each into the other.  Students were then given about 30 minutes of class time to complete the 4.6 worksheet. 

Assignments:   Review homework #6 is due on Wednesday.  Students should be completing the 4.6 worksheet if they did not complete it in the class time provided.

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students participated in an activity where all students in Mr. Olsen's and Mr. White's science classes will build an advertisement based on the element selected during a house wide drawing.   We then continued our discussion on Ethos, Logos and Pathos in advertising.  Our activity today involved defining a target audience and having a plan on how to sell your product. 

Assignments:     None.

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, students began their review process for the chapter 4 test scheduled for tomorrow (Tuesday February 7th). 

Assignments:    Review homework #6 is due on Wednesday.  Students should be studying for the chapter 4 test tomorrow. 

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class by using their flashmasters.  Next, students jumped back into chapter four.  We reviewed GCFs, LCDs and LCMs and how to find them.  We moved into section 4.6 on comparing and ordering fractions and mixed numbers.  Students were given the definitions for a proper fraction, an improper fraction and a mixed number and we practiced converting several examples.

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Next, we continued our discussion on Ethos, Logos and Pathos in advertising.  Our activity today involved students looking thorough magazines and finding advertisements and breaking down and describing how the ad is attempting to sell the consumer its product. 

Assignments:     Students should be completing the Appeals in Advertising worksheet we began in class if they did not complete in the class time provided.

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, students jumped back into chapter four.  We reviewed the rules for dealing with standard form, product form and scientific notation.  Students then demonstrated their knowledge through three example problems.  The section 4.7 worksheet was assigned and students were given about 30 minutes of class time to complete the assignment. 

Assignments:    Review homework #5 is due on Friday.  Students should be completing the 4.7 worksheet if they did not finish in the class time provided. 

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class by using their flashmasters.  Next, students jumped back into chapter four.  We reviewed LCDs and LCMs and how to find them.  We then completed a practice worksheet together where students modeled fractions in order to understand how to find the Least Common Denominator in order to compare the fractions. 

Assignments:   Review homework #5 is due on Friday.  Students should be completing the comparing fractions worksheet for Friday if they did not finish in the class time provided.

Science:  Today in science, students continued working with the periodic table.  Today, students began class with a Do Now, before taking a quiz on oxidation numbers and chemical bonds.

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, students jumped back into chapter four.  We reviewed the rules for dealing with multiplying and dividing exponents as well as zero and negative exponents, before students graded their homework from last night.  We then began scientific notation.  Students were introduced to standard form, product form and scientific notation form.  We practiced various problems through all three forms introduced. 

Assignments:    Review homework #5 is due on Friday. 

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class by using their flashmasters.  Next, students jumped back into chapter four.  We reviewed LCDs and graded the homework from Tuesday night.  Next, students filled out a math goals sheet for the remainder of the school year.  Students ended class by working on a simplifying fractions worksheet.

Assignments:   Review homework #5 is due on Friday.  Students should be completing the simplifying fractions worksheet for Thursday if they did not finish in the class time provided.

Science:  Today in science, students continued working with the periodic table.  Today, students began class with a Do Now, before being introduced to the next activity, Bonding with a Classmate part II.  Students then spent the rest of class bonding with classmates during this structured activity.
