7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day, before students were introduced to section 5.3 on adding and subtracting UNlike fractions.  We ran through some examples and practiced a few together, before students were assigned the 5.3 worksheet and given the last 20 minutes of class to get started on the homework.    

Assignments:   Review Homework #23 on Study Island is due by the end of the day on Thursday.    Section 5.3 worksheet is due in class on Friday.    

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students made corrections to their chapter 2 tests.  

Assignments:   Review Homework #25 on Study Island is due by the end of the day Friday.   Students can be making corrections to their chapter 2 tests in order to improve their grades and learn from their mistakes.

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Students finalized their powerpoint presentations about their assigned body system.  Students are learning everything they can about an assigned body system and they will then present their findings to their classmates in order to "teach" their assigned body system.   

Assignments:    Student and group powerpoint presentations are due to Mr. Olsen by Friday of this week.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day, before students graded their 5.1 worksheet.  Next, we jumped into adding and subtracting like fractions.  After some teacher led instruction, and several example problems, students were assigned the section 5.2 worksheet, which is due Wednesday in class.    

Assignments:   Review Homework #23 on Study Island is due by the end of the day on Thursday.    Section 5.2 worksheet is due in class on Wednesday.    

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students are took the chapter 2 test.

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Students continued putting their powerpoint presentations together about their assigned body system.  Students are learning everything they can about an assigned body system and they will then present their findings to their classmates in order to "teach" their assigned body system.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day, before students were introduced to chapter 5 and rational numbers.  We talked about the definition of rational numbers, and how any whole number can be represented as a fraction.   Students are expected to be able to convert fractions into decimals and vice versa.   

Assignments:   Review Homework #23 on Study Island is due by the end of the day on Thursday.    Section 5.1 worksheet is due in class on Tuesday.    

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students are continuing to review chapter 2 material.  Today students spent class preparing for the chapter 2 test, which will be Tuesday in class.  

Assignments:   The chapter 2 test will be Tuesday in class. 

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Students completed their presentation planner, before they began putting their powerpoint presentation together about their assigned body system.  Students are learning everything they can about an assigned body system and they will then present their findings to their classmates in order to "teach" their assigned body system.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day, before students took the chapter 4 test.   

Assignments:   Review Homework #22 on Study Island is due by the end of the day on Friday.      

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students are continuing to review chapter 2 material.  Today we began reviewing terms, like terms, coefficients, and constant terms.  Students then took the time to practice identifying these parts of an expression.   

Assignments:   Completing Review HW #24 on Study Island is due by the end of school on Friday.   Students will be taking the chapter 2 re-test on Tuesday on next week (12/18/12).

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Students continued researching their assigned body system.  Students are learning everything they can about an assigned body system and they will then present their findings to their classmates in order to "teach" their assigned body system.   

Assignments:    We will be heading outside for science class on Friday 12/14/12.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day, before students continued reviewing for the upcoming chapter 4 test on Thursday of this week.  Several students had band rehearsal during class today, so the rest of the class wen to the computer lab and worked on their Study Island assignments on the web.  

Assignments:   Review Homework #22 on Study Island is due by the end of the day on Friday.  Students can expect the Chapter 4 Test on Thursday.     

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students are continuing to review chapter 2 material.  Today we began reviewing terms, like terms, coefficients, and constant terms.  Students then took the time to practice identifying these parts of an expression.  Students were then assigned about 12 problems on simplifying expressions for Thursday.  

Assignments:   Completing Review HW #24 on Study Island is due by the end of school on Friday.   Students also have 12 problems on simplifying expressions due Thursday in class.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day, before students continued learning about scientific notation, product form and standard form.  Students were able to ask questions and work on some concepts related to scientific notation in class, before we began our review process to prepare for the upcoming Chapter 4 test on Thursday of this week.  

Assignments:   Completing Review Homework #21 on Study Island is due by the end of the day on Wednesday.  Students can expect the Chapter 4 Test on Thursday.     

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students are continuing to review chapter 2 material.  Today we finished up our distributive property review, and students were assigned 12 problems to complete as homework.

Assignments:   Completing Review HW #23 on Study Island is due by the end of school on Wednesday.   Students also have 12 problems on the distributive property to complete by Wednesday in class.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day, before students continued working with negative exponents.  Students expressed concerns of not totally understanding the homework, so we went over each homework problem individually, in order for students to better understand the steps necessary in working with both negative and zero exponents.  Students were assigned extra problems from the text book to continue practicing these concepts.   

Assignments:   Completing Review Homework #20 on Study Island is due by the end of the day on Friday.   Problems from the text book pg. 201-202 #1-39 (odds) are due Friday in class.   Students can expect a quiz on Friday as well.     

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students are being asked to continue working with solving equations.  We struggled as a group on the chapter 2 test, and we need to spend some more time revisiting those concepts before we jump into chapter 3.  Students were then give about 20 minutes of class time to work on their Study Island assignments.  

Assignments:   Students have two assignments active on Study Island and both are due by the end of school on Friday.   

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Students then read about 12 pages (the first two sections of chapter 1) in our Human Biology and Health text book.  Once students read the required pages, they were handed a reading guide with several questions for them to answer concerning the reading they just completed.  

Assignments:  Students need to be completing their Body System Reading Guide for class on Friday.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day, before students were introduced to section 4.6 on zero and negative exponents.  Students were led through the explanation of the rules associated with negative exponents, and why any base with an exponent of 0 is always 1.  We worked through several example problems of each type of problem students will encounter on the homework, before students were assigned the 4.6 worksheet for homework.  

Assignments:   Completing Review Homework #20 on Study Island is due by the end of the day on Friday.   The section 4.6 worksheet is due on Thursday in class.      

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students were introduced to chapter 3 and section 1 on solving two step equations and equations the have like terms and parentheses.  We did a few example problems as a class, before we went to the computer lab and students were given about 20 minutes of class time to continue working on their assignments on the Study Island website.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day, before students were introduced to section 4.5 on multiplying and dividing exponents.  When multiplying powers, if they have the same base, you add the exponents.  When dividing powers with the same base, you subtract the exponents.  Students were assigned the 4.5 worksheet as homework.

Assignments:   Completing Review Homework #19 on Study Island is due by the end of the day on Wednesday.   The section 4.5 worksheet is due on Wednesday in class.      

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students were introduced to Study Island.  This is a supplemental website designed to let students continue working on math concepts outside of the classroom.  Mr. Olsen is using Study Island as a part of class, in that instead of paper review homework twice a week, students will now be assigned a Review Assignment on Study Island and they will be expected to complete the assignment on the same schedule as a paper review homework.     

Assignments:   Students have two assignments active on Study Island and both are due by the end of school on Friday.   

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Students then participated in an activity where they worked with a partner to make an outline of a human body, and then they labelled and drew all the different parts, systems, bones, etc, that they already know about the body.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day, before students were introduced to section 4.4 on the least common multiple.  Students were introduced to two different methods of finding the LCM, including listing multiples and writing out the prime factorization of each number in question, and multiplying the factors together in order to find the LCM.  We also talked about monomials and finding the LCD of fractions in order to list fractions from least to greatest.    

Assignments:   Completing Review Homework #19 on Study Island is due by the end of the day on Wednesday.   The section 4.4 worksheet is due on Tuesday in class.      

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students took the chapter 2 test.

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Students then reviewed their vocabulary words with a partner in class, before we took a quiz on the 33 science vocabulary words we have been working with for the past week.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day, before students were introduced to section 4.3 on equivalent fractions.  We practiced developing equivalent fractions, and putting fractions into simplest form.  We also practiced factoring monomials.   

Assignments:   Completing the Pre-Test on Study Island is due by the end of the day on Friday.   The section 4.3 worksheet is due on Friday in class.  Students can also expect a quiz in class on Friday covering the first three sections of chapter 4.    

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students who completed their homework participated in a decimal jeopardy review activity.  Students who did NOT complete their homework, went to the library to have a quiet place to focus and complete their work.   

Assignments:   Review Homework #22 is due Friday.  The chapter 2 test will be on Monday December 3rd.   

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Students continued memorizing their vocabulary words they will be quizzed on next Monday.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day, before students were introduced to a new supplemental website called Study Island.  We are going to stop handing out paper review homeworks, and students will now be expected to log into the website with their newly issued logins and passwords, and complete assignments that Mr. Olsen adds to the Olsen 7th Pre-Algebra class page.  Today students completed, or at least began, the Pre-Test assignment, which will be due by the end of the day on Friday.  

Assignments:   Completing the Pre-Test on Study Island is due by the end of the day on Friday.    

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, we jumped back into chapter 2.  Today we spent time reviewing the rules associated with adding, subtracting and multiplying and dividing decimals.  Students also reviewed solving equations and the rules for signs, before the 2.7 worksheet was assigned for homework.  Students were given about 20 minutes of class time to begin the assignment.   

Assignments:   Review Homework #22 is due Friday.  The 2.7 worksheet is due Thursday in class.  

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Students began making flashcards to begin memorizing the 33 vocab words that they will be tested on next Monday.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day, before we jumped back into chapter 4.  Today students continued to learn about finding the Greatest Common Factor of two or more nonzero whole numbers.       Students were introduced to some key vocabulary, including relatively prime, and we practiced finding the GCF of several sets of integers.  Students were then assigned the 4.2 worksheet for homework.  

Assignments:   Review Homework #18 is due Wednesday.   The section 4.2 worksheet is due on Wednesday morning.   

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, we jumped back into chapter 2.  Today we spent time reviewing the rules associated with adding, subtracting and multiplying decimals.  Students practiced multiplying decimals and applying the rule for the number of digits behind the decimal point in their product.  We also reviewed the rules associated with dividing decimals and practiced multiplying and dividing several examples.  

Assignments:   Review Homework #21 is due Wednesday.    

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Students then completed a worksheet where they defined 33 scientific words, using a dictionary if necessary.  If students completed the worksheet, they were instructed to begin making flashcards to help them memorize all of the words for an upcoming quiz.    

Assignments:  Students should be completing the Science Vocabulary worksheet if they did not complete the work in the class time provided.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day, before we jumped back into chapter 4.  Today students were introduced to finding the Greatest Common Factor of two or more nonzero whole numbers.   

Assignments:   Review Homework #18 is due Wednesday.  Students can also be working on their chapter 3 test corrections that are due on Tuesday morning in class.     

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, we jumped back into chapter 2.  Today we spent time reviewing the rules associated with adding, subtracting and multiplying decimals.  Students practiced lining up the decimals for adding or subtracting decimals, and we ended class working on multiplying decimals.

Assignments:   Review Homework #21 is due Wednesday.    

Science:  Today in science, students reflected on their individual work within the bubble gum challenge project that ended before Thanksgiving break.  We then began learning about scientific root words, and prefixes and suffixes and how they can change the meaning of the root word.    

Assignments:  Students should be completing the Science Vocabulary Notetaking Guide if they did not complete the work in the class time provided.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day, before we jumped into chapter 4.  Today students were introduced to prime factorization.  Students defined the key vocabulary and practiced making factor trees, as well as factoring monomials.  Students were assigned the 4.1 worksheet for homework.  

Assignments:   The section 4.1 worksheet is due Friday morning in class.    

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, we jumped back into section 6 of chapter 2 on solving equations using division and multiplication.  Students reviewed the division property of equality, before the multiplication property of equality was introduced.  Students took notes on the multiplication property, and we practiced several examples before the 2.6 worksheet was assigned as homework, and students were given about 20 minutes of class time to begin working on the assignment.  

Assignments:   Review Homework #20 is due Friday.  The section 2.6 worksheet is due on Friday morning in class.   

Science:  Today in science, students took a quiz on the scientific method, and then they were given an hour and a half of class time to work on their social studies projects.  Students can expect to go outside for science on Friday.

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, we jumped back into section 6 of chapter 2 on solving equations using division and multiplication.  Students took notes on the properties of equality and we practiced several examples both as a group and individually, before we ran out of class time.

Science:  Today in science, student groups presented their projects to their classmates.
