8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Students then graded their homework from section 1.8 on the coordinate plane.  Next, students were given the rest of the class period and several review choices in order to help themselves prepare for the chapter 1 test on Wednesday.  

The chapter 1 test is scheduled for Wednesday of this week.  

Assignments:  Review HW #9 is due Wednesday in class.  

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Students then transitioned into the text book.  Students reviewed some key vocabulary, and we graded the homework from the text book, before we began talking about the order of operations.  We reviewed what PEMDAS stands for and practiced several example problems before we were dismissed a few minutes early for our school's magazine fundraiser assembly.

Assignments:  Review HW #9 is due Wednesday in class.  

Science: Students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students sat with their local ecology groups, and each group continued the process of identifying the plants we collected from our one meter square plots last week. The materials manager from each group refined, finalized, typed and printed their groups plot location narrative that will be used to find the plots at a later date.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Students then graded their homework from section 1.7 on multiplying and dividing integers.  Next, we jumped into section eight on the coordinate plane.  After some key vocabulary review, and some teacher led instruction, including examples, students were assigned the section 1.8 worksheet as homework, to be due Tuesday in class.  

The chapter 1 test is scheduled for Wednesday of this week.

Science: Students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students sat with their local ecology groups, and each group began the process of identifying the plants we collected from our one meter square plots last week.  Two other group members continued refining and finalizing their groups plot location narrative that will be used to find the plots at a later date.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Students then graded their homework from the text book, page 41 #1-10.  We then reviewed the rules of adding and subtracting integers.  Next, we jumped into section 1.7 on multiplying and dividing integers.  Students will be constantly reminded about keeping these rules for adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing integers close, as we will be using them for the rest of the year.  After some teacher led instruction and several example problems, students were assigned the 1.7 worksheet as homework.   

Assignments:  Review HW #8 is due Wednesday in class.  The section 1.7 worksheet (all on the front, odds on the back) is due Wenesday in class.  

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Students then transitioned into the text book.  Students began learning about how write and evaluate variable expressions.  After some teacher led instruction and several example problems, students were assigned the section 1.2 worksheet for homework.  

Assignments:  Review HW #8 is due Wednesday in class.  The section 1.2 worksheet is due Wednesday in class. 

Science: Students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students sat with their local ecology groups, and we went outside to establish their groups one meter square plot in either the Old Growth forest with Mr. Olsen, or in the New Growth forest with Mr. Campbell.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Students then graded their homework from the text book, page 32 #14-32 evens.  After students had the opportunity to ask clarifying questions, and correct their homework, we jumped back into section five on adding integers.  We reviewed the rules of signs for integers, including same signs, different signs and opposites, before we reviewed the new vocabulary introduced yesterday in class. After some teacher led instruction and several example problems, students were assigned the section 1.5 worksheet (all) to be due Thursday in class.  

Assignments:  Review HW #7 is due Friday in class.  The section 1.5 worksheet (all) is due Thursday in class.  

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Students then transitioned into the text book.  Students began learning about how to identify and describe different patterns, and how to extend each pattern.  After some teacher led instruction, and several example problems, students were assigned the section 1.1 worksheet, which will be due on Thursday in class. 

Assignments:  Review HW #7 is due Friday in class.  The section 1.1 worksheet is due Thursday in class. 

Science: We had no science class today as the Taku House is taking the MAPs tests this week.  Our next class will be on Friday.    

Assignments:  The C.R.A.P. practice activity we began in class today will be due at the end of class on Friday.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Students then graded their homework from section 1.4.  After students had the opportunity to ask clarifying questions, and correct their homework, we jumped into section five on adding integers.  We reviewed the rules of signs for integers, including same signs, different signs and opposites, before we covered some new vocabulary. 7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Students then transitioned into the text book.  We had a class discussion about how to utilize a math textbook, including the different resources available within a text book.

Science: We had no science class today as the Taku House is taking the MAPs tests this week.  Our next class will be on Friday.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Students then transitioned into section four of chapter one, on comparing and ordering integers.  Students reviewed what integers are, both positive and negative, as well as how to use number lines to graph a dataset.  After some teacher led instruction and several example problems, dealing with absolute value as well as opposites, students were assigned the section 1.4 worksheet as homework (Evens only, due Tuesday in class).

Assignments:  Review HW #6 is due Wednesday in class.  The section 1.4 worksheet (evens only) is due Tuesday in class.  

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Students then transitioned into the text book.  We reviewed whole number operations, before students began working on the prerequisites for chapter one, on page 2 of the text book.  Page 2, #1-16 are due Tuesday in class.      

Assignments:  Review HW #6 is due Wednesday in class.  Page 2 in the textbook, #1-16 are due Tuesday in class. 

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students reviewed the four elements of design we learned about on Friday in class, before students began working on an activity designed to help students identify and explain why certain pictures that they choose from magazines represent each of the four elements of design (Contrast, Repetition, Alignment and Proximity).  This activity will be due at the end of class on Friday.    

Assignments:  The C.R.A.P. practice activity we began in class today will be due at the end of class on Friday.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  We then graded our homework, the section 1.2 worksheet.  Students were given the opportunity to see Mr. Olsen's work and answers, grade their own work and ask questions as needed.  We then began a group discussion on the order of operations (section 1.3 in the textbook).  

Assignments:  Review HW #5  is due Friday in class. 

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  We then began talking about and taking notes the different strategies involved when working with whole number multiplication and division operations.     

Assignments:  Review HW #5 is due Friday in class.

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students worked with their partners from yesterday in order to begin identifying the three local plant specimens they collected Tuesday in class.  Each group will be expected to correctly identify all three plants they collected by the end of class on Thursday.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  We then began talking about and taking notes the different strategies involved when working with whole number subtraction and multiplication operations.

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students went outside with a partner in order to officially collect three local plant specimens that they will be identifying in the next few days of class.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students began a year long process of graphing their posted grades in math class.  We then jumped into section two of chapter one on using powers to describe repeated multiplication.  After some teacher led instruction, and several examples, students were assigned problems from their at home textbooks, p. 12 #1-10 and 13-20.  These problems will be due Tuesday in class. 

Assignments:  Review HW #4 is due Wednesday in class.  The problems assigned from the at home text book, p. 12 #1-10 and 13-20 are due Tuesday in class.   

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students began a year long process of graphing their posted grades in math class.  We then began talking about the different strategies involved when working with whole number addition operations.

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students participated in a group discussion about scientific inquiry.  We talked about what makes questions easy or hard to investigate and how scientists go about finding answers to testable questions.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students graded their section 1.1 homework, before we began talking about the different ways to express different operations.  Students were assigned some homework over the weekend, on decimal operations.  

Assignments:  The decimal operation worksheet is due Monday in class.   

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students demonstrated their knowledge of whole number place value as well as whole number operations on a quiz.  

Assignments:  Students were assigned a worksheet to complete over the weekend on whole number operations to be due Monday in class.

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students participated in an direct observation activity, before we broke back in to our groups from yesterday.  With their partners, students then attempted to key out, or identify, the leaves and plants they collected yesterday with plant identification books.  

Assignments:  Students were told to enjoy their weekends!

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students jumped into the textbook and we began talking and learning about variable expressions.  After some teacher led instruction and several example problems, students were assigned the section 1.1 worksheet (odds only) as homework to be due Friday in class.  

Assignments:  The section 1.1 worksheet (odds only) is due Friday in class.  Review Homework #3 is due Friday in class.  

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Do Now and a simple word problem to get them started.  Next, students reviewed their knowledge of place value and they took notes in cornell note fashion.  After some teacher led instruction and several examples, students ended class with a summary of what was presented to them during class.

Assignments:  Review Homework #3 is due Friday in class. 

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students partnered up and we went outside on the trail in order to collect plant leaf specimens.  Students were instructed to gather as many details as possible from the plant they collect a leaf from in order to help them identify that plant tomorrow from a plant identification book.   

Assignments:  Students have been asked to come into class on Friday with a descriptive paragraph about any object that doesn't give that object away.  Students will read their descriptive paragraphs with their table groups tomorrow in class.
