Algebra I: Today in math students began class with a Do Now and a set of warm up problems.  Next, students took a quiz on inequalities.  When students finished the quiz, they were assigned a section 2.5 Practice B worksheet, to be due on Friday in class.

Assignments:  Students were assigned the section 2.5 Practice B worksheet, to be due Friday in class.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmaster activities.  We then jumped back into chapter 2 and began discussing rational numbers.  Students continued working through how to convert decimals to fractions and how to order a group of fractions and decimals in order from least to greatest.  Students spent the class period completing some worksheets that had them practicing converting fractions to decimals and vice versa.  For homework, students were asked to complete a worksheet where they are adding and subtracting decimals, to be due Friday in class.

Students can expect a quiz on rational numbers on Friday in class.

Assignments:  Review HW #10 is due on Friday in class.  Students were assigned a worksheet where they are adding and subtracting decimals, to be due Friday in class.

Science:  Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students to a social studies quiz on the five themes of geography.  Students then got into their LEP groups and finalized their groups Taku Watershed Poster Project.

Algebra I: Today in math students began class with a Do Now and a set of warm up problems.  Next, students jumped back into chapter 2.  Students continued working with compound inequalities, and after reviewing our homework from Tuesday evening, students began solving compound inequalities and learning to differentiate between compound inequalities that involve "and" and inequalities that involve "or".  After some teacher led instruction and several examples, students were assigned problems from the textbook, pages 85/86 #1, 2, 6, 9-12, 18-20, 23, 24, 28-31, to be due Thursday in class.  

Students can expect a quiz on Thursday in class.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmaster activities.  We then jumped into chapter 2 and began discussing rational numbers.  Students continued working through how to convert decimals to fractions and how to order a group of fractions and decimals in order from least to greatest.  We then continued our discussion on how to identify a rational number and how to determine if a rational number is a terminating decimal or a repeating decimal.  After a bit of teacher led instruction and several examples, students were assigned workbook page 28 to be due on Thursday in class.

Science:  Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Students then got into their LEP groups and continued working on their group's Taku Watershed Poster Project.  In groups, students make several key decisions, including font types, font sizes, matting colors and measurements, in order for the group to put together their final products in class on Thursday.    

Assignments: The Taku Watershed Poster Projects are due at 3pm on Thursday.

Algebra I: Today in math students began class with a Do Now and a set of warm up problems.  Next, students jumped back into chapter 2.  Students were introduced to solving compound inequalities.  After some teacher led instruction and several examples, students were asked to complete practice workbook pages 48 & 49 in the last few minutes of class. The homework is workbook page 51, to be due on Wednesday in class.

Assignments:  Students were assigned workbook pages 48 & 49 & 51 for class on Wednesday.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmaster activities.  We then jumped into chapter 2 and began discussing rational numbers.  Students continued working through how to convert decimals to fractions and how to order a group of fractions and decimals in order from least to greatest.  We then began discussing how to identify a rational number and how to determine if a rational number is a terminating decimal or a repeating decimal.  After a bit of teacher led instruction and several examples, students were assigned some text book work, page 48 #1-10, to be due on Wednesday in class.

Assignments: Students need to have they assigned paragraph for the Taku Watershed Poster Project typed up and ready to print for class on Wednesday.

Algebra I: Today in math students began class with a Do Now and a set of warm up problems.  Next, students jumped back into chapter 2.  Students were introduced to solving inequalities that involve multiple steps.  After some teacher led instruction, and several example problems, students were assigned some problems from the text book, page 77 # 1, 2, 13-16, 22-28 evens, 32, 33, 34, 35, 37 and 41-43, to be due Tuesday in class.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmaster activities.  We then jumped into chapter 2 and began discussing rational numbers.  Students were working through how to convert decimals to fractions and how to order a group of fractions and decimals in order from least to greatest.  After some teacher led instruction and some examples to help guide students, students were asked to complete a set of five problems where they will be ordering a given list of rational numbers from least to greatest, to be due in class on Tuesday.  

Assignments:  Students are to be completing the five problems given to them in class or ordering the given rational numbers from least to greatest, to be due Tuesday in class.

Science:  Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Students then got into their LEP groups and continued working together to write their group paragraphs for the Taku Watershed Poster project.  Students took class time to peer review or peer edit each others work, in order to improve the final products.  Once students had peer reviewed another's work, students were given access to a computer and their Google Docs account in order to type their hand written paragraphs.  

Assignments: Students need to have they assigned paragraph for the Taku Watershed Poster Project typed up and ready to print for class on Wednesday.

Algebra I: Today in math students began class with a Do Now and a set of warm up problems.  Next, students jumped into chapter 2.  Students were introduced to solving inequalities using addition, subtractions as well as multiplication and division.  After some teacher led instruction, and some focus on the rule of flipping the inequality sign when multiplying or dividing by a negative integer.  Students worked through several examples before being assigned work out of the text book, page 65 #3-19 odds; #20-25 all; and #32 AND page 71 #3-20 all, to be due on Monday morning in class.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmaster activities.  We then jumped into chapter 2 and began discussing rational numbers.  Students had their chapter 1 tests returned today in class, and then given time to make corrections to any problems they missed on the test.   

Assignments:  The chapter 1 test corrections are due Monday in class.

Science:  Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Students then got into their LEP groups and continued working together to write their group paragraphs for the Taku Watershed Poster project.  Groups were instructed that they need three hand written paragraphs before they can peer edit each others work, or type up the final drafts on the computer.  

Assignments: Students need to have they assigned paragraph for the Taku Watershed Poster Project completed and in class ready to be peer edited on Monday.

Algebra I: Today in math students began class with a Do Now and a set of warm up problems.  Next, students jumped into chapter 2.  Students were given about 20 minutes of class time to begin working through the activities in the practice workbook (pages 27 - 30) before we came back together as a class to review some key concepts and to define some vocabulary that will help them better understand inequalities.  Students were then assigned workbook pages 31 and 32, to be due on Thursday in class.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmaster activities.  We then jumped into chapter 2 and began discussing rational numbers.  We engaged in a class discussion of how to identify a rational number as well as how to recognize that fractions are just a division problem.  We spent time practicing converting decimals to fractions and vice versa, before we ran out of class time.  

Assignments:  Review HW #8 is due Friday in class.  

Science:  Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  We blocked classes in science and social studies today.  Students from Mr. Olsen's homebase had science for the full two hours this afternoon, and we went outside and established their Local Ecology Plots that groups of students will be returning to each month from today until April.  Students will be observing the plot they established in class today over the course of the school year.

Algebra I: Today in math students began class with a Do Now and a set of warm up problems.  Next, we graded our homework from Friday, and provided students an opportunity to compare their work with the correct answers, as well as ask any clarifying questions before we moved forward.  Students were reminded that the chapter 1 test will be on Tuesday in class.  The remaining class time was dedicated for students to review and prep for the test on Tuesday.   

Assignments:  The Chapter 1 TEST is scheduled for Tuesday.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmaster activities.  We then graded our quizzes from Friday.  Next, students were reminded that the chapter 1 test will be on Tuesday of this week.  The remaining time in class was offered to students to review and practice their skills for the chapter 1 test on Tuesday.  

Assignments:  Review HW #7 is due Wednesday in class.  The chapter 1 test will be Tuesday in class.

Science:  Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Students were then introduced to the Taku Watershed Project.  Students will be working with the groups established last week for the Local Ecology Project, to complete the Taku Watershed Project. Students were given time to understand what is expected of them in order to have success with the project, as well as time to begin researching the three parts all groups will be expected to present on.   

Assignments: Students can expect to spend a whole afternoon outside establishing their Local Ecology Plots on either Tuesday or Wednesday of this week.

Algebra I: Today in math students began class with a Do Now and a set of warm up problems.  Next, we graded our homework from Monday, and provided students an opportunity to compare their work with the correct answers, as well as ask any clarifying questions before we moved forward.  We had an abbreviated class today due to extended MAP testing, so students were assigned the exploration activities for section 1.5 in their practice workbooks, to be due either on Thursday or Friday in class. 

Assignments:  Students were assigned pages 22 & 23 in their practice workbooks for class on Thursday or Friday.  

7th Grade Math: We did not have math class today, as students were MAP testing.

Students won't be having math class again until Friday morning, as the Taku House students are MAP testing on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of this week.

Science:  Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Students were then introduced to the Local Ecology Project, a year long investigation of a 1 meter square plot of land.  Students were placed into groups of four, and the groups went through a democratic process of naming their group and determining a role for each group member.

Algebra I: Today in math students began class with a Do Now and a set of warm up problems, before students graded their homework from Tuesday.  Next, we transitioned into section 1.4 on solving equations with Absolute Values.  Students were given some class time to work through the self directed activities in the practice workbook.  Students had quite a bit of trouble connecting to the concept, and we ran out of class time.  We will pick this concept up on Thursday in class.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmaster activities.  We then graded our quizzes from Friday.  Next we continued working with integers and today we continued learning about subtracting integers.  After some teacher led instruction and some guidance, students were assigned a worksheet practicing the rules we learned for subtracting integers.

Science:  Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Students then participated in a class discussion on understanding the differences between quality observations and making inferences.  Students then were given class time to attempt to identify the plants they collected on Tuesday in class, by using some plant identification books from our school library.

Algebra I: Today in math students began class with a Do Now and a set of warm up problems, before students graded their quizzes from Friday.  We then transitioned back into section 3 on solving equations with variables on both sides of the equal sign.  Today we focused on how to identify equations with special outcomes; equations with infinitely many solutions, and equations with no solution.  After some teacher led instruction and a few examples problems, students were assigned problems from the text book for homework. Problems from page 23 #19-29 are due Wednesday in class.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmaster activities.  We then graded our quizzes from Friday.  Next we continued working with integers and today we were learning about subtracting integers.  After some teacher led instruction and some guidance, students were given class time to begin working the activities in the practice workbook, pages 11; 12; and 13, which will be due Wednesday in class.

Assignments:  Review HW #5 is due Thursday.  The activities from the workbook for section 1.3 are due Wednesday in class (Pages 11-13).  

Science:  Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Students then went outside with a partner and each group was responsible for collecting at least two new plant specimens, and at the same time, collecting as many observations as possible in order to help them identify their collected plants in a plant book on Wednesday in class.

Algebra I: There was no 8th grade math today, as all 8th graders attended the play at Perseverance Theatre.  

Assignments:  The problems from the text book, page 23 # 2-17 are due Friday in class.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmaster activities.  We then graded our homework, page 12 from the textbook, #1-39.  Next, all 7th graders got together and we watched a film about Fastballs and baseball, and made some connections to how math and science is used in a sport like baseball.

Assignments:  Review HW #4 is due Friday.   

Science:  Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Students then continued a class discussion on what observation is and how it is used in science.  We then shared observations about the leaves we collected yesterday with table group members.  Our discussion led to talk about what makes a good observation, and how making good observations can be helpful if you needed to identify a plant leaf at a later date.   

Assignments: Students have been assigned to write a descriptive paragraph about a common household object that they will share in class on Friday.
