Thursday April 26, 2012

8th Grade Math:  Today in pre-algebra, students began class with the POD.  We then transitioned back into chapter 10 and began working with calculating the surface area of pyramids and cones.  Today students were introduced to the surface area formula for pyramids.  Mr. Olsen led students through an explanation of the formula, and how to find the surface area of a pyramid. 

Assignments:     Review homework #21 is due on Friday. 
 
7th Grade Math:  Today in math, students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students began making corrections to their chapter 6 tests. 
  
Assignments:  Review homework #21 is due on Friday.  Students should be completing their chapter 6 test corrections for class on Friday.  

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Next, we finished up having our groups present their powerpoint presentations on their assigned planet.  Students then were given an opportunity to grade their own powerpoint presentations with a rubric.

8th Grade Math:  Today in pre-algebra, students began class with the POD.  We then transitioned back into chapter 10 and continued working with calculating the volume of prisms and cylinders.  Today students were given several examples and different sizes of cylinders and asked to calculate the volume and surface area of each.  

Assignments:     Review homework #21 is due on Friday.

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Next, we continued having our groups present their powerpoint presentations on their assigned planet.

8th Grade Math:  Today in pre-algebra, students began class with the POD.  We then transitioned back into chapter 10 and continued working with calculating the volume of prisms and cylinders.  Today students were given two examples of cylinders and asked to calculate the volume of each.  After a  bit of instruction and those previous examples, students were given about 20 minutes of class time to complete the 10.7 worksheet. 

Assignments:     Review homework #20 is due on Wednesday.  Students should be completing the 10.7 worksheet if they did not finish in the class time provided. 
 
7th Grade Math:  Today in math, students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students continued the review process for the upcoming chapter test.   The chapter 6 test will be Wednesday of this week.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math, students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, we transitioned back into chapter 6, and began reviewing the rules associated with integers.  Next, we graded the section 6.8 worksheet on the coordinate plane.  Students were then asked to practice plotting ordered pairs on a coordinate plane.  The chapter 6 test will be Wednesday of this week.

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Next, we began having our groups start presenting their powerpoint presentations on their assigned planet.

8th Grade Math:  Today in pre-algebra, students began class with the POD.  We then transitioned back into chapter 10 and continued working with parallelograms and trapezoids and circles.  We graded the work students completed Wednesday in class, and moved into surface area of prisms.  Students were introduced to nets and how to use them when breaking down a rectangular prism in order to calculate the surface area.  

Assignments:     Review homework #19 is due on Friday.
 
7th Grade Math:  Today in math, students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, we transitioned back into chapter 6, and began reviewing the rules associated with integers.  Next, we graded the section 6.7 worksheet on the distributive property.  Students were then introduced to coordinate planes and the different quadrants. 
  
Assignments:  Review homework #19 is due on Friday.  

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Next, we reviewed how to site information on a biblography.  Students were then given class time to work with their partners and continue building their presentations on their assigned planet. 

Assignments:     Students should be finalizing their powerpoint presentations on their assigned planet as the projects are due on Friday in class.

8th Grade Math:  Today in pre-algebra, students began class with the POD.  We then transitioned back into chapter 10 and continued working with parallelograms and trapezoids.  Students were given about 20 minutes of class time to work on the section 10.3 worksheet, before we moved into section 10.4 on the circumference and area of circles. 

Assignments:     Review homework #18 is due on Wednesday.
 
7th Grade Math:  Today in math, students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, we transitioned back into chapter 6, and began reviewing the rules associated with integers.  After some basic review, students were introduced to several new properties and practiced identifying those new properties through examples.  Next, we transitioned into section 6.7 on the distributive property.  Mr. Olsen led student through the rules associated with the distributive property and led students through several examples.
  
Assignments:  Review homework #18 is due on Wednesday.  

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Next, we reviewed what makes a n effective presentation, and students were shown examples of poor powerpoint presentations, and given suggestions on how to make their presentation effective and successful.  Students were then given class time to work with their partners and continue building their presentations on their assigned planet. 

Assignments:     Students should be continuing to build their powerpoint presentations on their assigned planet.

8th Grade Math:  Today in pre-algebra, students began class with the POD.  We then transitioned back into chapter 10 and continued working with polygons and calculating area and perimeter.  Today we were working with parallelograms and trapezoids.  After some instruction on using the formulas, Mr. Olsen led students through several examples, before assigning students 4 homework problems from pg. 524; #12, 14,16,18. 

Assignments:     Review homework #18 is due on Wednesday.
 
7th Grade Math:  Today in math, students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, we transitioned back into chapter 6, and began reviewing the rules associated with integers.  After some basic review, students were introduced to rational numbers.  Mr. Olsen led students through several example problems before asking students to complete one problem as an exit ticket out of the classroom.

8th Grade Math:  Today in pre-algebra, students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, we transitioned into surface area and volume of cylinders and triangular prisms.  After a class discussion on finding these values, students were given some examples to calculate the surface area and volume of each shape. 

Assignments:    Students have a Fraction Finding Mission project due this FRIDAY!  There will also be a quiz on Friday. 

7th Grade Math:  Today in math, students began class with their flashmasters.  We then transitioned into finding the surface area of a cuboid.  We discussed what surface area is and spent some time calculating some examples.  Students were then handed a net of a cuboid and they were asked to calculate the surface area of that shape. 

Assignments:  None. 

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students were introduced to the next project, the Planet Research Project.  Students were broken into two or three person groups, and were given a brief overview of the project.  Once students were in their groups, each group then assigned individual responsibilities amongst the group members.

8th Grade Math:  There was no math today as 8th graders took the Science SBA. 

Assignments:    Review Homework #17 is due Thursday.   Students should be completing the 10.1 worksheet if they did not finish in the class time provided.  (Due Thursday)  Also, students have a Fraction Finding Mission project due this FRIDAY!  There will also be a quiz on Friday. 

7th Grade Math:  There was no math today as 8th graders took the science SBA.  The 7th graders participated in a block period with their language arts teachers. 

Assignments:  Review Homework #17 is due Thursday.  Students should be completing the 6.4 and the 6.5 worksheets if they did not finish in the class time provided. 

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students review angle measures and learned about the angles of the planets relative to the Earth.  Students defined several terms before practicing measuring angles, constructing angles, and determining the angle of the planets relative to the Earth. 

Assignments:     Students should be completing the NASA Angles in Space Training worksheet if they did not finish in the class time provided.

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, students began reviewing for the SBA tests.  Today's activity had students continuing to  review classification of triangles based on angle measures and side lengths.  After some teacher led instruction and several example problems, students were assigned the section 10.1 worksheet and given about 30 minutes of class time to complete the assignment.

Assignments:    Review Homework #17 is due Thursday.   Students should be completing the 10.1 worksheet if they did not finish in the class time provided.  (Due Thursday)  Also, students have a Fraction Finding Mission project due this FRIDAY!  There will also be a quiz on Friday. 

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class by using their flashmasters.  Next, students jumped into multiplying and dividing integers.  Mr. Olsen shared the rules associated with multiplying and dividing positive and negative integers.  Students also reviewed the rules associated for adding and subtracting integers, as they will be incorporating those rules when solving multiplication and division of integers.  Students were then assigned the 6.4 and 6.5 worksheets as homework for Thursday.  

Assignments:  Review Homework #17 is due Thursday.  Students should be completing the 6.4 and the 6.5 worksheets if they did not finish in the class time provided. 

Science:  Today in science, students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students continued the review process for the upcoming Science SBA.  On Wednesday of this week, 8th graders with be taking the science SBA.   The 7th graders will be spending their morning with their language arts teachers.

8th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class with the problem of the day.  Next, students began reviewing for the SBA tests.  Today's activity had students reviewing classification of triangles based on angle measures and side lengths.

7th Grade Math:  Today in math students began class by using their flashmasters.  Next, students jumped back into subtracting integers.  After some review of the rules associated adding integers with the same signs, different signs, and opposites, students practiced a few example problems.  Students were then assigned the 6.3 worksheet and given 20 minutes of class time to complete the assignment. 

Assignments:  Review Homework #17 is due Thursday.  Students should be completing the 6.3 worksheet if they did not finish in the class time provided.
