8th Grade Math: Students began class with the problem of the day before students jumped back into finding LCMs. Lots of extra practice is happening in class right now finding LCMs and LCDs. We spent the majority of the day doing examples and answering questions posed by classmates.

Assignments: Review Homework #28 is due Friday. Finish the Section 4.4 worksheet for Thursday.

7th Grade Math: Today students began class with their flashmasters before jumping back into chapter 4. Today we reviewed the process of converting mixed numbers into improper fractions and vise versa. After we corrected the 4.6 worksheet, students were given the opportunity to ask questions and we did a few more example problems, before students were introduced to section 4.7 dealing with fractions and decimals.

Assignments: Review Homework #30 is due Friday.

Science: Today in science students continued our discussion concerning the differences between diffusion, osmosis and active transport. We then continued watching the film Osmosis Jones.

Assignments: Catch up on any missing assignments, as this is the last week of quarter number two!

8th Grade Math: Students began class with the problem of the day before students jumped back into finding LCMs. Mr. Olsen led students through several example problems before handing students the 4.4 worksheet and asking students to complete #1-17 (odds only) for tomorrow.

Assignments: Review Homework #27 is due Wednesday. Section 4.4 worksheet #1-17 odds only for Wednesday.

7th Grade Math: Today students began class with their flashmasters before jumping back into chapter 4. Today we reviewed the process of converting mixed numbers into improper fractions and vise versa. After several example problems, Mr. Olsen handed out the 4.6 worksheet and asked that students complete it for Wednesday.

Assignments: Review Homework #29 is due Wednesday. Complete 4.6 worksheet for Wednesday.

8th Grade Math: Students began class with the problem of the day before students were introduced to section 4.4 and least common multiples. We began by discussing the differences between factors and multiples, before jumping into the definitions and rules of finding the LCM. Students were shown two different methods in finding LCMs and we ended class by trying several example problems as exit tickets out the door.

Assignments: Review Homework #27 is due Wednesday.

7th Grade Math: Today students began class with their flashmasters before jumping back into chapter 4. Today we introduced section 4.6 and mixed numbers and improper fractions. After some teacher led instruction and several examples, students were asked to complete two different examples as exit tickets out of class.

Assignments: Review Homework #29 is due Wednesday.

Science: Today in science students discussed the differences between diffusion, osmosis and active transport. We did a class wide activity in order to demonstrate diffusion in action to start class, and that led into a discussion and a reading with several questions for students to put answers to on paper.

Assignments: Finish the worksheet handed out in class if they did not finish in the class time allotted.

Thursday January 6, 2011

8th Grade Math: Students began class with the problem of the day before students continued working with section 4.3 and learning to write equivalent fractions. After some teacher led example problems, students graded yesterdays assignment in class, before being asked to complete the even problems from the same 4.3 worksheet.

Assignments: Review Homework #26 is due Friday. Finish up section 4.3 worksheet #1-29 (evens) for class on Friday.

7th Grade Math: Today students began class with their flashmasters before jumping back into chapter 4. Today we introduced section 4.5 and comparing and ordering fractions by finding the least common denominator (LCD). After some teacher led example problems, students were handed the 4.5 worksheet to complete during class time.

Assignments: Review Homework #28 is due Friday. Complete the 4.5 worksheet if they did not finish in the class time provided.

Science: Today in science students took the knowledge they gained during yesterdays powerpoint discussion on cells and cell structure and applied it to a Discovering Cells activity. In this activity, students were comparing the organelles within a cell and the different parts of our school in an analogy form. Students continued and finished up the Discovering Cells worksheet before moving into a coloring activity, where they colored separate animal and plant cells in order to gain a better understanding of the difference between the two.

Assignments: None.
