8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the problem of the day. We then jumped back into chapter 7 and began working with solving percent problems by using proportions. Mr. Olsen led students through some instruction and several example problems, before students were given several examples to practice without help, unless needed.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters. Students then jumped back into chapter 10 and we began working with regular and irregular polygons. After some teacher led instruction and several example problems, students were handed the 10.4 worksheet and given 20 minutes of class time to complete the assignment.
Assignments: Review HW #13 is due Wednesday. Complete the 10.4 worksheet if they did not finish up in class.
Science: Today in science students began class with reading a section from the text book on Electric Currents and Magnetic Fields. Students were then handed a worksheet with questions related to the reading and we answered them as a group. We then had a discussion about the nuclear power plants in Japan and how they relate to the flow of electricity.
Assignments: Complete the Electric Current and Magnetic Fields worksheet if not completed in the time allowed in class.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the problem of the day. Today happens to be Pi day, and students celebrated the occasion by partaking in an activity that helped students gain a better understanding between a circles circumference and its diameter.

Science: Today in science students began class with a discussion concerning what magnetic shielding may mean. After our discussion, students were introduced to today's activity, a lab where students experimented with different materials trying to create a shield while using different magnets.

Mr. Olsen introduced some key vocabulary terms, and led students through several examples of converting fractions to percents and percents to fractions.

Science: Today in science students took part in a lab to test the strength of a magnet. After Mr. Olsen demonstrated the procedures for the class, students paired up and once they had their materials, the students took off and completed the lab at their own pace. Students had to complete a data sheet, build a line graph based on their results and answer several questions regarding the lab they took part in.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the problem of the day, before we jumped into a class wide review activity. Mr. Olsen put together a jeopardy game for teams of students to compete and practice different problems in order to prepare and review for the chapter 5 test tomorrow.
Assignments: Students should be preparing for the upcoming chapter 5 test that is scheduled for this Friday.
7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters, before we graded the 10.1 worksheet that students completed for homework last evening. We then transitioned into section 10.3 and started working with triangles. Today students practiced drawing and measuring triangles and their angle measures using a protractor, in order to get a better understanding of how all triangles angle measures add up to equal 180 degrees.
Assignments: Review HW #11 is due Friday. Mr. Olsen also asked students to draw a perfect triangle this evening for class tomorrow. The only rule was that each side length of the triangle is at least 8 inches.
Science: Today in science students took the first 15 minutes of class to discuss the different items they found around their homes that were or are magnetic. We then transitioned into todays activity, which was a lab designed for students to experiment with magnetic fields, by using two bar magnets and some iron filings. Mr. Olsen provided students with directions and a worksheet to fill out as they progressed through the activity.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the problem of the day, before we graded the 5.7 worksheet students completed as homework last evening. Students were then given the choice of how they spent the rest of the hour. Our chapter 5 test is scheduled for this coming Friday. Thus, students were allowed to begin the review process on their own. Students were allowed to spruce up their notes that they will be allowed to use on their test on Friday. They were also given the option of completing the chapter review or just complete extra practice problems from chapter 5 with Mr. Olsen available to offer help when needed.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students revisited the rules for using multiplicative inverses when solving equations and inequalities, section 5.7. We spent the first 10 minutes of class on a few examples, before Mr. Olsen handed out the 5.7 worksheet and gave students about 35 minutes of class time to work on the odds with Mr. Olsen present to help when needed.
