7th Grade Math: Today in math, students began class with the problem of the day, before transitioning into the days activities. We graded the 1.4 worksheet that was homework on Tuesday night. Next, we jumped into section 1.5 on adding integers and took notes in Cornell fashion. Assignments: Review Homework #5 is due Friday. Section 1.5 worksheet is also due on Thursday. 8th Grade Math: Today in math, students began with the do now. We transitioned back into section 1.1 from the book and continued taking Cornell notes on writing and evaluating variable expressions. We reviewed key vocabulary, defined the terms and practiced several examples problems, before students were assigned the 1.1 worksheet for homework.

This project will be a school year long group project, where assigned groups of students will be evaluating and observing a one meter square plot of land surrounding our school. Students were broken into groups and then within their groups, they assigned themselves roles and named their groups. Assignments: None.

Students had collected three different specimens of local plants, and they are identifying these plants based on the information they collected with the specimen from several different plant identification books. Today, students went outside around the school one more time and collected one last local plant specimen, using the knowledge they have collected throughout this process, and they will identify the new specimen on Friday in class. There will be no science on Thursday as students will take the third and final MAPS test in the afternoon. Assignments: None.

Students were introduced to some key vocabulary today, and we continued taking notes on section 1 in the book in cornell note fashion. Today's topic was addition and students were introduced to several strategies to help them add up larger numbers.

Next, students shared their descriptive paragraphs about their leaf with another table group, and students attempted to identify the plant based on the descriptive paragraph they read. Next students were given a plant identification book and asked to flip through the guide and try to key out the plant based on the information presented to them. We will be heading outside for class tomorrow (Thursday) in order for students to collect three different plants species that they will key out in the classroom on Friday. Assignments: None.

Next, our class went outside and collected a leaf that we then brought back into the classroom. Students were asked to write a three to five sentence descriptive paragraph, describing the plant they chose as if nobody had seen it before. Assignments: Students should coming to class tomorrow with a written descriptive paragraph about their leaf. They should bring their leaf to class tomorrow as well.
