8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students were introduced to solving inequalities using addition and subtraction.  The same process of solving equations with equal signs still apply to solving inequalities.  Students worked with graphing simple inequalities using open or closed circles on a number line.  Students were then handed a packet of work to complete throughout the week, as the Taku House will be MAPs testing on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of this week.

Assignments:  Review Homework (Packet) #28 is due Friday in class.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students were introduced to stem and leaf plots.  After reviewing the rules of bar and double bar graphs and line graphs, we began working with how to interpret stem and leaf plots.  Students worked together as we built unordered and then ordered stem and leaf plots using the data sets given.  Students were then handed a packet of work to complete throughout the week, as the Taku House will be MAPs testing on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of this week.

Assignments:  Review Homework (Packet) #28 is due Friday in class.

Science: Students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students were introduced to their next project/activity for the week.  Students will be writing an explanatory essay, comparing and contrasting the processes of photosynthesis and cellular respiration.  Students will be responsible for writing a four paragraph essay detailing how these processes are similar and different.  This assignment will be due at the end of class on Friday January 16th.

Assignments:  The explanatory essay on photosynthesis and respiration is due at the end of class on Friday January 16th.

Thursday January 8, 2015

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students continued working with equations with variables on both sides of the equal sign.  Students were given class time to ask questions and continue practicing solving multiple different equations and various scenarios to be better prepared for the quiz on solving equations on Friday in class.

Assignments:  Review Homework #27 is due Friday in class.  Students can expect a quiz on Friday in class.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students were introduced to stem and leaf plots.  After reviewing the rules of bar and double bar graphs and line graphs, we began working with how to interpret stem and leaf plots.  Students can expect a quiz on mean, median, mode and range and bar and line graphs on Friday in class.

Assignments:  Review Homework #27 is due Friday in class.

Science: Students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students participated in a vocabulary matching activity with a partner, before they were introduced to the next activity, where students will be illustrating the processes of photosynthesis and respiration and how they are related on a colored diagram.  These diagrams will be due at the end of class on Friday.

Assignments:  The illustrated diagrams of the Photosynthesis and Respiration processes will be due at the end of class on Friday.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students were introduced to solving equations with variables on both sides of the equal sign.  After reviewing the important rules for working with both positive and negative integers, Mr. Olsen led students through several example problems.  Students were then assigned the section 3.3 worksheet and given about 25 minutes of class time to get started on the work.

Assignments:  Review Homework #27 is due Friday in class.  Students were assigned the section 3.3 worksheet (odds only) to be due Thursday in class.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Next, students were introduced to bar graphs and line graphs.  We spent some time in class interpreting and developing a bar graph with the information given to the students by Mr. Olsen.  Students reviewed bar graphs and then spent some time working with line graphs and double bar graphs.  Students were assigned the section 3.2 worksheet, and given about 20 minutes of class time to get started.

Assignments:  Review Homework #27 is due Friday in class.  Students were assigned the section 3.2 worksheet on bar and line graphs, to be due Thursday in class.

Science: Students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students began learning about respiration.  Students reviewed the process of photosynthesis, as well as the chemical equation for photosynthesis, before we read section 2.2 on Respiration.  Students engaged in some class discussions on the relationship between the processes of photosynthesis and respiration, before they were assigned the section 2.2 worksheet, to be due Thursday in class.

Assignments:  The section 2.2 worksheet on Respiration is due Thursday in class if students did not complete it in the class time provided.
