8th Grade Math: Today in math students continued practicing their isometric drawing and completed a worksheet where they calculated the volume and surface area of multiple shape configurations.
Assignments: None.
7th Grade Math: Today in math students were introduced to our next project, where students will be working in pairs and building birdhouses. Each student pair will begin by designing a plan of a birdhouse on paper and then building that design out of paper. Next week, students should be nearing the building phase of the project where each group will be given a 1x6x8 board and asked to create their birdhouse!
Assignments: None.
Science: There was no science today as students were MAP testing this afternoon, and we used the morning hours for language arts and math.
Assignments: Students should be continuing work on their rough drafts of their alternative energy writing project. Students are expected to come to class on Friday with a completed rough draft in order to participate in the peer editing process scheduled for class on Friday afternoon. The final paper will be due at the end of class on Monday.

8th Grade Math: Today in math, students continued working with isometric dot graphing paper where they kept practicing sketching solids in 3-D form. Mr. Olsen had wooden blocks out in the classroom and each table group of students were encouraged to build the shapes that they were being asked to draw first, so they could see what they were expected to draw. They then drew the shapes they built with the blocks on the isometric dot paper.
Assignments: Review Homework #19 is due on Friday.
7th Grade Math: Today in math students were introduced to the volume equation for cylinders. After some teacher led instruction and several example problems, students were handed the 12.6 worksheet and given 25 minutes of class time to complete the assignment.
Assignments: Review homework #20 is due on Friday. Students should also complete the 12.6 worksheet if they did not finish in the class time provided.
Science: Today in science students were given class time and computer lab time to continue working on their research of their chosen energy source. Today most students were working on the process of converting their energy source from a raw material to electricity. Some students began the next step of explaining how and where their chosen energy source is being used in the state of Alaska.
Assignments: Students should be completing the worksheet explaining how they convert their energy source into electricity if they did not finish in the class time provided today.

8th Grade Math: Today in math, students completed the building rectangular prisms project which has students working in groups of four and constructing and calculating the surface area and volume of the rectangular prisms they construct.
Assignments: Review Homework #18 is due on Wednesday. Students should also complete their surface area and volume calculations from the building rectangular prisms project.
7th Grade Math: Today in math students were continued working with cylinders and the process of calculating the surface area of a cylinder through a net of a cylinder. Students were handed the 12.4 worksheet and given 30 minutes of class time to complete the assignment.
Assignments: Review homework #19 is due on Wednesday. Students should also complete the 12.4 worksheet if they did not finish in the class time provided.
Science: Today in science students were handed the scoring guide or rubric to our next project, the Alternative Energy Writing Project. After going over the scoring guide and expectations of the project, students were taken to the computer lab and given about 35 minutes of class time to complete the Researching Energy Sources worksheet that they began on Monday. Once students finished up the first worksheet, they were handed step number two and worksheet number two, where they will describe in detail the steps required to convert their chosen energy source from raw materials to electricity.

7th Grade Math: Today in math students were introduced to cylinders and the process of calculating the surface area of a cylinder through a net of a cylinder. After Mr. Olsen introduced the formula for finding the surface area of any cylinder, students were handed a net of a cylinder and asked to calculate the surface area by finding the area of the bases, and adding it to the circumference of the base multiplied by the height of the prism.
Assignments: Review homework #19 is due on Wednesday.
Science: Today in science students were introduced to our next project, the Alternative Energy Writing Project. Students selected an alternative energy source that they want to learn more about and today in class they spent time in the library researching their chosen energy source. Students were completing a worksheet where they were looking for three benefits and three drawbacks of Nuclear energy and their chosen energy source. We will spend tomorrow in the library as well completing this assignment.
