Thursday December 12, 2013

7th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with the Problem of the Day.  Next, students reviewed simplifying fractions, as well as the rules of multiplying and dividing powers.  Many students had troubles simplifying monomial fractions, so we spent the majority of class discussing and going over several examples of monomial fractions.  Students were then briefly introduced to scientific notation.  Students can expect a quiz on Friday on the first six sections of chapter 4.

Assignments:  Review Homework #25 is due Friday in class.

8th Grade Math: Today in math students began class with their flashmasters.  Today students reviewed the process of identifying the terms, like terms, coefficients and constants of an expression.  Next, students practiced developing equations out of word sentences.  After some teacher led instruction and a few example problems, students were assigned several problems from the text book, and given about 35 minutes of class time to complete the assignment.  Students turned in their work before leaving class.  Students can expect a quiz on the first three sections of chapter 2 on Friday.

Assignments:  Review homework #26 is due Friday in class.

Science: Today in science students began class with the Do Now.  Next, students continued working with and learning about the periodic table.  Today students were learning about the organization of metals on the periodic table, and how to determine if an element was a metal, non-metal or metalloid.
